Oh I agree an Evic VTC Mini is an awesome mod and worth every penny. An innokin battery will die eventually but not anytime soon. If she wants to buy her son something that is all inclusive and well made it's hard to beat an innokin product.

Can't disagree with that. Innoken devices are good.
Just that all with built in batteries are technically disposables.
Not to say I would not buy a Coolfire IV they are nice.
But being a techie I figure I could put another battery in it.

If you do get an external battery mod, don't go cheap on a charger and batteries. You don't want to have a fire in your house over a few dollars saved.

I have Innokin MVPs that lasted over a year and a half and now all external battery mods for me and the wife. I recently got the Kanger Subox Mini kits and like those.

While it is true that devices with a built in battery are disposable, they usually last a long time, unless you get a lemon which can happen with any device. I have iSticks that are over a year old. I recently gave an MVP2 to a guy who only had Ego batteries. I've had that MVP for over 1 1/2 years but I only used it for about 7 months before I got my first iStick. It's been sitting unused for about a year, still works great.

Wow. I posted my question this morning and got busy putting my Christmas tree up and cleaning! Lots of things to check out.

I'm guessing that the eGo/EVOD set-up just didn't satisfy him because he kept going back to cigarettes. I think he was using 12mg liquid when he tried it. He has taken hits off of mine and he liked the iStick/Atlantis that I had. He's also tried my husbands Aspire sub ohm with the Atlantis and liked that. I've been googling all of your suggestions and I came across the CoolFire IV Plus and the Coolfire IV. I doubt he would need the 70W but if he used it at a lower wattage would the 70W give him longer battery life between charges?

He has mentioned that he thought a removable battery would be nice so all he would need to carry is another small battery.

Off to do more googling!

Every vaper has a different style. With that said, he really needs to shop for himself. Give him some tutorial, or, if you have a B&M nearby, take him there for education. Don't let them push a hasty impulse buy, though!

Maybe buy him a gift certificate from your favorite vendor?

Introduce him to ECF and insist that he do homework here to arm himself with information in order to make a knowledgable decision.

Every device is going to have good and bad reviews. Ultimately, the decision should come down to the individual vaper. Everyone upgrades from whatever they start with.
