OK, long time vaper curious about DIY.

I have 100% unflavored VG and I have nicotine base (100mg). I know how to mix them but have a question about flavoring:

Is the liquid flavor in the baking aisle at my grocery store safe to use in eliquid? Is it any different LorAnn or any of the others mentioned here?

I wanted to try and mix a basic lemon menthol juice but don't have access to anything other than grocery store flavors. I do have some LorAnn on order but I'm bored and wanted to try something today.

Input?

Thanks. :)

If they are PG based they should work but a lot of them are heavy alcohol or even oil based. I would wait for your order and play it safe.

Make some unflavored juice... Vape that till you get flavoring you can trust.

Oh, I have plenty of juice to vape - probably at least 1000ml from various places. Like I said I'm bored and wanted to see if I could just whip something together. I've also got some unflavored that I made from VG and nic base.

But I am going to take the advice here and wait. :)

Thanks.

Just an FYI. Even some of the Lorann flavorings contain oil.

OK, and is that bad or dangerous? I mean, when I buy pre-made juice the ingredients list says something like:

Vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, nicotine, and flavoring.

So who knows what is in the flavoring, right? Could be just about anything I'm guessing.

Why would you possibly "guess" that? Do you think your juice company is just throwing random thing in to your juice? If so you should probably find another juice maker.

Any reputable company is using usda approved food flavorings just like we are.

Lipids (fats), gums and other emulsifiers are the main ingredients to avoid.

It should be noted that essential oils are not lipids.

Add any waxes to that list as well. Why chance something that may harm you when safe flavorings are readily available. <scratches head>

Why would I possibly assume anything else? Especially in a completely unregulated business. Suicide Bunny and Five Pawns immediately come to mind. Both were extremely popular (one might say "reputable") and neither was forthcoming with their ingredients until they were forced to through independent testing.

I'm not a child of the X-Files regarding conspiracies but I'm not naïve enough to believe that these companies are more interested in anything other than their bottom line. Sorry if that bursts anyone's bubble.

So, yeah, I don't trust ANY of them - until proven otherwise.

Well, there's always using the premix juices you have as flavorings for new juices..??

You mean diluting them with my VG and nicotine base mix?

I could do that, but I was thinking more along the lines of creating a simple single flavor juice from scratch. Again, this is not out of need but more of an experiment in DYI using commonly available items from my grocery - other than the nic base. More of a curiosity.

I just wanted to be as safe as possible and didn't want to vape anything that is known to be dangerous (like wax, thank you PilotNY.)

So, oils in flavorings have not been definitively proven to be harmful?

Essential oils have been used in nebulizers for quite some time with little or no detrimental effect.

Since essential oils are not lipids, inhalation carries no risk of lipoid pneumonia.

Well you don't have to dilute the premix juices with VG or PG or Nic to blend them. Unless you desire to adjust the ratios.

Simple answer is yes there are flavorings you can use direct from the grocery store. Problem is you can't identify them based on the label, in the store, as safe to vape.

Now there are Tobaccos, herbs, fruits and spices, teas and coffees, ect. You could use to make NET flavorings yourself. Of course that requires a lot of time and effort and more research.
