I was going to post this elsewhere but I think this is the most fitting place for this. I think I may have tried every BCC out there except the Davide, which I'm about to order. In fact I think I may have tried every conceivable carto/clearo/tank there is, and several attys. I've stuck with carto tanks and Vivas for the past 9 months though and have been at this for almost 4 years. I consider dripping on an atty to be the purest, best taste - just rarely convenient. My wife likes a BCC, but every time I try one, there is an odd taste I just can't get rid of - in every brand on BCC. I don't taste it on top coils though. I don't get it. In general, BCCs are little airy and cool for me anyway, but that's not really an issue. So am I crazy or do other people taste what I'm talking about? And if so, what is it? Thanks, all.

True, I don't clean them. In all this time though, I've never had to do that with anything. Why BCCs? I don't mind a little primer. That's not it. Even on each refill, they never taste good and all basically taste the same regardless of brand.

You should be cleaning clearos after every tank, especially if you're changing flavors, and double especially if you're using liquid with VG in it.

In a BCC, the wicks are almost always submerged in the liquid. Over time, the wicks accumulate all manner of organic material that isn't atomized. This buildup can then burn, yielding a totally different flavor and probably contaminating the rest of the liquid in the tank.

That's probably what you're tasting.

At this point, the coil head(s) in question should be replaced. Probably too far gone to be worth the wash, dry burn, wash, dry burn cycle it would take to restore clean performance. BCC's are consistently good performers, but they are a bit on the high maintenance side.

Wow, you may have just answered the BCC taste question and personally I think that's crazy that they are sent out like that. What you say makes perfect sense to me though especially since all BCCs have a similar design unlike anything else that appears machined. Thanks and I'll get back to this thread after I give this a shot on some that I've kept around.

No, what I taste on a BCC is the same from the first use to the last so that's not it. Thanks though. As for cleaning a clearo, or anything else, I've tried every method and was never happy with the outcome so I never change flavors in the same device and pop a new coil on (or carto, etc) every week or two because of the change in taste due to build up. What I'm thinking of doing is using a sonic cleaner on the BCCs before using them and see if that makes a difference.

You absolutely have to clean BCC'S. There is machine oil residue on the metal during the manufacturing process.. i washed mine (sans wick) in hot soapy water and the water on the 2nd cleaning was still murky.

When I saw this thread title, I immediately went "Ya, I know what you mean. What would you call that taste - its familiar but ...". Skyz, you nailed it! It tastes like 3-in-1 smells!

Hmmmmm, I'm guessing the rubber grommet is burnt. You might have set the voltage too high and one it's burnt/singed, the taste permeates everything if you have sensitive taste / nose.

On top coils, it doesn't happen because you would probably get a burnt/dry hit before the legs get hot enough to burn the grommet.

Try dry sucking/priming before firing the bcc.

Just my noob 2 cents.

Definitely not it, but thanks for adding some input. Always helpful.

I can name that taste in three drags!

I remember my mom watching that show name that tune lol.

I can name that taste in Two drags...

I call that taste silica. I can always taste it until I recoil my BCC with cotton. I think the warmer vape of top coils helps to hide it a little.

Cotton is definitely a win in the bcc.

Alright. Cleaning before use seems to have done the trick. In my case, 8 minutes of a hot sonic bath. I did it on an iSmoka Mini BCC and an EVOD. I may still prefer carto tanks and Vivi Novas but at least I know what the issue was and will get use out of the BCCs I kept around, so I'll try the same thing on my Protank and some others. Thanks, all. Machine oil, who would have guessed.
