Ok I have went through 2 regulators 2 aaa boxes and I have followed that schematic to a tee. I have one box left, one regulator, and some other stuff anyway the other day there was a post that talked about a 3 post 5 volt regulator. Is that the 4 post one from mad vapes omitting the control post or is there a 3 post regulator and if so does anybody know where I can find one?+

I have tried 3 of Mad vapes 4 post wired to their diagram and they don't work for me. I have pos in 1, neg 3, out pos to atty 2, control 4, and I get 8 volts to the atty every time. Used the 3 post mini and got 0
I have the flat side down posts faceing away from me and have number 1 start on right.

Take firhill's advice, the UCC-283-5 from TI is a much better choice
for a fixed 5v output over a 7805. I used the UCC one for several months before upgrading to the ptr08060w (also free from TI). With two 14500 batt's, the UCC
would give a solid 4.95v under load and last 15-18 hours before needing to recharge
