I got a question about regulators, i know only very little about this kind of stuff. Ive made a few 5v boxes with the TI ucc383-5 5v 3a regulators, i am all out of those now and was wondering if something like this would work 20 x L7805CV L7805 7805 Volt Regulator IC + 5V 1.5A - eBay (item 220717271131 end time Jan-30-11 01:32:46 PST). I dont know enough about amps and other electronics no know if this is basicly the same thing and will do the job. I just want to make a box mod with 2 3.7v batterys, no leds nothing fancy, that will put out 5vs. thanks

The TI ucc383-5 is about 30 cents more than that UCC383T-5G3 from Mouser electronics, or for the same price, you can get a 3 Amp adjustable converter OKR-T/3-W12 from Mouser electronics which will just require (1) 268 Ohm resistor to set the voltage at 5V, or you can use a potentiometer to adjust it. 1.5 Amps will be pushing the limit depending on your Atomizer resistance.

***Edit: Or look at Madvapes, they have several regulators to choose from for a good price.

It is my understanding that several people have used 1.5 amp parts successfully, even without heat sinks. The theory being that you don't use em continually, but rather intermittently.... (since those don't have a control pin, you need a high-amp button. Also an additional master-on-off switch is recommended). Thus, they don't get very hot. However, I suggest the more robust parts anyway. Like CapeCAD said, 30 cents or so more...... However, if you have it on hand anyway, all you can do is fry it if you try.... I'd use the heat sink if possible to give yourself "insurance".

+1 on the MV stuff. I support them. Switches too. They have some regulators with control pins for using the small switches:

he ships it with a resistor too! Nice to have a small button, but make sure you use protected batteries!!!

Good Luck.
