I started vaping almost 2 years ago with vapor kings. About 8 months in the first time I stopped and went back to analogs. Now, a few months in again I'm realizing what the issue is, I'm not happy with my equipment.

Between batteries just suddenly not working after a few weeks, inconsistant vape from carts, and constant cleaning of carts, it all just seems like a money and time sink.

So I ask, what are my alternatives to cartomizers? I like the size of vaporkings, but they don't seem to last very long. Are there reliable options for a tank type system? Are carts the way to go? I tried doing some searching but not exactly sure what I'm looking for with so many different models out there it gets confusing.

Thanks for the help!

Oiy, where to start, as you can see by my signature, I fully understand where you are coming from. I too started out with a Cigarette type PV, a 510 Mega Auto battery. It lasted a day before I took it back to the shop I bought it at and traded up to an Ego-T in emerald green. I used this E-cig for about a month before I started getting tired of refilling all the time, (Very heavy Vaper Here). So My next purchase was my very first Cartomizer PV, my Go Go from cigeasy. Holy Hanna did it kick me in the lungs the way a PV Should! Great unit, and at less than 60 bucks I personally believe it is the best thing out there for the price. It is still after four months sitting right next to it's upgraded Big Brother the Go Go Pro which I also own at my side as we speak, still vaping like a champ even after 4 months of use and a thundering PV Killing spill all the way accross the parking lot at work when I tripped and fell and it came shooting out of my pocket and sailing across the parking lot. Still work great though. I also own a Provari and it is my Pride and Joy of course, I use the Dual Coil Cartomizer Tank on that one with 2.0 ohm Smoketek XL Cartos in this one and vape it at around 4.8-5.2 volts depending on which juice I am using at the time. I have vaped the 2.0 Ohm cartos at as high as 6 volts without issue though so they can be revved up really high for a good warm vape.

So not using cartos for me is not an option at this time because all the tank atty's leak at some point and my cartos never do. Atty's are just plain expensive for the most part, although some very nice work is being done these days to make them worth the price so I may check some out at some point in the future.

At the moment though it is cartos for me and I use high capacity cartos because it means less often refills and really good no mess vaping for me.

I hope this helps you out and best of luck with your search;
Nate aka Darth Vapor

In edition if you really like the look and feel of a cigarette style PV you might look at the Elite 808 as well, very elegant looking. I do not have one, but they have gotten some pretty good reviews thus far. Here is the link if you want to take a look:

Nothing beats a Scripto lighter! I'll get that out of the way, and I miss that simplicity. There is maintenance for e-cig, no avoiding. All we can do is minimize it. But as you know, getting off cigarettes is good for ya (you might have heard?)!

For a while, I thought I was the only one still using carts, but now suspect I'm one of 3. :) I just wanted to get off cigs after 30 years. Honestly, I don't give a flying whatever what technology others are using. Whatever works, keep it simple. It sounds like you're a steady smoker, so you probably need a fatter batt (eGo/Riva/e-power) to last you hours, so you don't run a batt charging marathon. Personally, I find 10 minutes a day dry burning attys and 5 minutes filling carts simpler/easier than all the fancy carto cleaning methods. You can try tanks, which may have their problems, or better cartos with less maintenance. I may too later, lots of good suggestions. Meanwhile, some juice in a cart, attys and batts to vape with is all I ask...and I'm not smoking.

Good luck with your search.

Vape 36 mg. Use brand new atties that are so hot they melt plastic and replace them at least every couple of days. Allow yoursefl at least a month to acquire a taste for any tobacco flavor that you try. Begin with Dekang USA mix or Dekang Camel. Don't fool with anything requiring topoffs or dripping. Try tank systems, cartos with polyfill and cartos without polyfill and prefill them at home. Invest in quality syringes and other tools required for filling.

Thanks for all the great advise! It may just be my equipment and how I use it. All my batteries are autos, and I think they have a tendency to go bad easily if not treated with kid gloves? I carry them in my pocket, and they only seem to last a couple of months at best, and then start developing problems (won't turn off, won't turn on, won't charge, randomly turns on while sitting on the table).

Filling the carts also becomes a pain when they're this small. I cycle between 3 (two normal batteries and a longer one) and I've got to top off the carts in the morning and evening and sometimes in between (especially on the weekends when I'm free to vape all day).

I think I'll give the go-go pro a shot. The pro so I know when it needs a charge as well as how many puffs a full cart should last me so I'm not caught unawares. It holds so much I'm sort of in awe, it should last me a couple of days between charges and refills and alleviate many of the issues I'm having (I hope!)

I've got a few flavors I like so far, hopefully they will be good in the Go Go as well. I think I vape half for the nicotine, and half because I enjoy it. I definitely vape more than I smoked though, and I'm on about 18mg juice. I was only a few packs a week with analogs.

Thanks again!

I typically have four batteries charging in a Kensington while I'm carrying three. I buy the best syringes for the job of prefilling and use other proper tools. I buy new batteries before the charge is completely gone on the ones I have. I use disposable cartos so I always have a near brand new atty.

Whatever you use, you want it to be as factory new as you can afford--not necessarily the latest vapor machine on the market.

No one has mentioned my method of choice: direct dipping (in case you haven't hear the term, it just means dripping e-juice directly onto your atomizer).

First off, it's convenient. Granted, the dripping itself doesn't seem convenient, but not dealing with refilling tanks or cartridges or cartomizers is nice. Also, dry burning an atty as needed seems easier or more cost effective than cleaning or throwing away cartos.

More importantly, dripping allows manual control over how much juice to feed the atomizer, which is a deal-breaker for me.

In terms of hardware, I've just been using a Riva 510 (a Joye Ego knock-off), low resistance atomizers and a drip tip.
