I just ordered this Infinite Stingray clone kit. It comes with a 18650 battery and It doesn't mention the brand or it's mah or amp limit.
Just wondering if anyone recognizes it ??. I know it's probably a Chinese battery and charger though.
Any Info would help.
Thanks,
Russ.

Hey Russ,

I can't say I recognize that battery, but I would err on the side of caution and get a new battery. You have to remember, mech mods have ZERO protection in them. So if your battery decides to go south then, well, bad things can possibly happen.

For mech mod use I would recommend getting a Sony VTC5. It is well-known to be a safe and reliable battery for mech use, and can take almost anything you throw at it.....

I mean it's up to you, but I would definitely recommend playing it safe and getting a trusted battery that you know is good for mech use.....

I can't see enough details from the picture to offer any info. Like jpcwon said, if you can't identify the brand, model, or specs of the battery its not safe to use.

Never assume that any battery included as part of a kit is safe or even the right battery chemistry to be used in the mod. I can remember when FastTech was including non-protected ICR batteries in their mod kits, which should never be used in any mod. Again, if you can't identify the battery, don't use it.

I just got my Stingray mod kit today. Very nice clone, small size and hefty enough, nice magnetic switch too The battery that comes with it is a Trustfire 2500 mah 18650.Can't fined any amp limit on it.
I've used it on a 1.5 ohm single coil, ohms calc says it's running 2.8 amps. No battery heat detected.
I know people say these are "dangerous" batterties, so at higher ohms is it really dangerous??
BTW I have a Sony 30 amp coming Fri or Sat, No sub ohm til then and checking battery a lot.
Russ.

I think you'll be OK with the 1.5 Ohm single coil for now....yeah that's 2.8 Amps at 4.2 volts....I don't know the amp limit of the trust fire, but 2.8 amps is fairly low so I think you'll be ok...but ideally, you'll want to shelf that trustfire when the Sony comes as the Sony is a proven battery for mech use.....the trustfire, by most accounts, is not....

That Trustfire is a protected ICR battery. It will only have an amp rating between 2 - 3 amps at most. That will be "ok" with normal resistance coils (1.5 - 3.0 ohm), but never use ICR batteries for sub-ohm.

ICR batteries have fallen from favor within the last year as there are much better & safer batteries on the market. IMR or IMR/hybrid batteries are safer-chemistry, high-drain batteries currently recommended for all applications in both mechanical and regulated mods.

Should that ICR battery go into thermal runaway, it can vent hot gas, flames, and possibly explode. IMR batteries can still vent, but less dramaticall generally speaking...with no flames and less likely to explode.

Trustfires fall into that second tier of name-brand batteries that are not recommended (Surefire, Trustfire, Ultrafire) for vaping purposes.
