Hi everyone,
Kind of a noob here. I tried e-smoking a few years ago and it didn't work for me. Recently I had some friends start vaping so decided I'd give it another try now that hardware is more advanced. After considerable research, I ordered a Prodigy 3.1 from Puresmoker, and it got here this past Thu. It is DOA, and has yet to fire. I've exchanged emails with Puresmoker 3 or 4 times know, and they have basically told me to try X, Y and Z, none of which have worked. I've torn it down multiple times completely, tested it extensively with a voltmeter, and tracked down a former coworker that vapes to test the cartomizers I bought from PS (they work fine), and even tried the former coworker's carto he had on his GV-2 on my Prodigy (still wouldn't fire).

I am really getting kind of unhappy that ps hasn't contacted me since Fri. They are in the same time zone as me. I'm considering returning the unit, and keeping the cartos and zip tip I purchased from them, and getting a different mod, and am looking for suggestions since I am a noob. Here is what I am looking for:

Needs to accept 510, as I bought cartos and attys from PS, and don't want to return them. Also, 510 stuff seems to be pretty standard.

I liked that the Prodigy is dual voltage, so I can move up to 6V when I'm ready.

I liked the general size and shape of the Prodigy because it would fit nicely in my pocket, I had a vv box mod from madvapes recommended to me, but I don't like the idea of carrying a box mod in my pocket.

Also loved that it had a means to keep it from firing in my pocket (I just wish it would fire at all). But I don't really care where the button is, bottom feed, side feed, whatever, as long as I can carry it in my pocket with relative safety. Even if that means doing a little mod of my own. I'm fairly handy.

I'd LOVE to get a Darwin, but it's out of my price range. I'm looking for something I can get for around 120-150 for unit, bats and charger.

Ideally, whatever I get will fire up out of the box, after charging bats, and be pretty reliable, and durable.

Please help, I'm sitting on a dozen bottles of US made e-juice from various sources that I'm dying to try.

TIA

Chris

I've got the Buzz Pro and have used the Infinity Pro. Both great mods which are essentially the same except for the tube and batteries. The BP is slightly shorter and bigger in diameter but it's really close both ways. The BP uses 16340 or RCR123a batteries where the IP uses 14430. There are more choices for a 16340/123a so that's the way I went but you won't go wrong either way.

Both are as easy to adjust as it gets, no buttons or screws. Just slap on a carto or atty and adjust the dial to your taste. They also both have a on/off feature which was one of your concerns. The bottom cap is made so if you unscrew it about 1/4 turn it cuts the power to the mod and still fits snug enough that it doesn't move.

Considering Buzz Pro, or Infinity Pro from notcigs.com. Anyone familiar with these?

Heyas hificat101,

I have both the I pro and the Buzz Pro, and love them both. Great mods, couldn't be happier with them!

Of the two, I prefer the buzz pro, but they're so similar it basically comes down to aesthetics and how well each fits into my hand and shirt pocket.

I think the "ecf buzzkill" coupon code is still working for 7.5% off your order. With that, an i-pro with charger & 1 set of batteries runs $112 + shipping, I think. A second set of batteries runs $8. So you're looking at about $125 shipped, i think. (I'm just a customer of notcigs, not an employee, so my figures may be off).

The buzz pro runs ~$30 more. A set of buzz batts $11 instead of $8. But, I don't think you can do much better for a great quality vv mod either way.

Like Nomoreash said, very easy and convenient mod to use. No voltage display, but who really cares? You just adjust the thumbwheel to taste for whatever cart/juice you are using. And loosening the bottom cap to turn it off is simple and pretty much failsafe.

Oh, and both are available with your choice of 510/901/808/801 endcap.

btw, did I mention I love my notcigs mods?

:D

Cool guys thanks! I may be ordering one today if Puresmoker can't correct my issue. Nothing against them. They certainly make a great mod, but this isn't an extra e-cig for my collection, it's the only one, and if it doesn't fire, I don't vape. That severely reduces the timeline I'm willing to wait to get my issue resolved, and it's already been 5 days.

I may go with a Buzz Pro instead.

There really aren't many things that will keep a Prodigy from firing.
Probably the most common is that the contact screw head is contacting the plastic battery cover instead of the battery end.

Thanks for the suggestion TJ, but that isn't the case with mine. I have tested the voltage from the button to the center pin in the adaptor, and it is working and delivering voltage to the center pin when the button is depressed. I strongly feel that the 510 threading in the adaptor is defective, thus keeping a carto or atty from screwing in properly. Puresmoker even mentioned in one of their emails to me that they have seen a problem before, where a burr or burrs are left in the threads from the thread tapping. They suggested I screw a carto in and out repeatedly, trying to go in a little further each time, but it didn't work. The threads on mine apparently were too badly ganked in manufacture.

And of course this raises the question of why Puresmoker still has not offered to overnight me another adaptor. I got this Prodigy last Thu, and it still has not fired a single time. I have to say that other than the fact it doesn't work, I'm really impressed with the Podigy. It appears to be a really impressive mod, at a fair price, but in it's present state it is just a paperweight, and an aggravating one at that. I really wish PS would fix this for me, as I have to drive 3 hours each way to Thanksgiving dinner with the wife Thu, and was kind of counting on being able to vape in the car.

Can you raise the center pin a little?

I might consider trying that, if not for the fact that Puresmoker specifically told me not to try and move the center pin. Since I am considering a return, I don't want to do anything to bollox it up. It's almost 1PM now, and I am in same timezone as PS. If I dont hear from them in the next hour and a half or so, I'm afraid I'm going to have to request an RA. Then I will probably order an Infinity Pro, as Buzz Pro is showing out of stock.
