Hey guys, been vaping for over a year and have been lurking amongst ECF for over 6 months but this is my first post.

I'm a mech mod user and have never tried a box, however now that I have what I think is my perfect kit I find myself looking more at box mods, for around the house vaping.

I usaly build anywhere from 0.3-0.4 and enjoy I nice warm, dense vape. I don't know an awful lot about box mods but quite like the look of the vaporshark rDNA 40. The only problem I think I might have with it is I might want just a few more watts, you know, just in case xD

Also info on any good vendors to pick a box mod up from would be much appreciated :)

IStick has a 50W version for around $50, "scratch and dent" VaporShark RDNA 40s are around $140 (if they still have some available). They're the small screen version, but mine came flawless. Bought the sharkskin cuz I didn't know what it was gonna look like, got 30MLs of e-juice (VS house blend), and the RDNA 40 for way less than the large screen version (which has a 30 day backlog). Love my VS, the others are too expensive to do the same thing the VS does. Plus you have to buy the batteries for the VF and the Hana (not sure of the other ones)...

The temp control of the DNA40 devices with Ni200 wire is outstanding. I have the Vapor Flask with a DNA chip in it and it works amazingly well.

Your desire for more watts comes from your time spent using Kanthal for your coils. If you wanted it hotter you needed to either change the resistance of the coil or up the power, or both.

With these chips, all of that goes out the window. Ni200 is referred to as NR wire, because it has such low resistance. What used to take 50 watts on a .5 ohm coil, now needs 10 on a .15 coil to get the same flavor and vapor production.

Building coils for a regulated mod is different than what you have grown accustomed to using mechs. With mechs you control your power with your coil, so you have found your sweet spot in the .3Ω/.4Ω range which is 45 to 55'ish watts, BUT it is always 4.2v at most, at least for the first few pulls.

With regulated mods the power is controlled by the mod, not the coil. Let's say you build a 1.2 ohm coil and throw the full 40 watts. Yes, it is less than the wattage you are use to, but you are applying nearly 7v's instead of the 4.2v from the mech. Another benefit is that 1.2Ω coil will cover more surface area of the wick giving you more vapor and flavor.

Coil resistance is important with mechs, but with regulated you don't need to build low since you are controlling your power with the device. Higher ohm coils perform better in regulated, so 40 watts is more than enough to get a similar experience, you just need to change your thinking.
