Need help deciding on a Kayfun

I am now to the point that I need to get over my "I don't want to learn to build coils" phase. I have an eVic and I have been using SVT Nova dual top coils, rewicking with organic cotton. I tried Mothers Milk in a friend's KF 3.1 clone and loved it! I got a bottle and it tastes completely different in my tanks. Therefore, I am assuming that I am not getting the great flavor that any of my other juices are capable of. So let me first explain what I want/need.

1. I like the tight pull of the SVT Nova, I hate the airy pull of my ProTank 3 with aero bottom, even when it is closed as far as it will go.

2. I like simplicity. If I can build a few coils to have in my vape bag to use if one burns out, I will be good. I don't want to have to come home from a t-ball game or something and have to build right away because it failed on me.

Can these all be accomplished with a Kayfun? Also, I can get the 3.1 clone for $40 from a smoke shop that just sells gear because he can but knows nothing about them, or I can get a KFL (not sure if it's a clone or not) from a different shop in town (actually a good vape shop), and at that shop, the guy will actually sit down with me and show me the basics of building a coil.

Which one do you guys suggest and why? Sorry to be so lengthy and in depth, but I am really hung up on simplicity, but I am not getting the flavors I could be and I want to "move up"!

I got this one, and am LOVING it. Great flavor, no whistling like I have heard that others have had. One caveat. The picture shows it is highly polished. It is not. It is more of a matte finish, but I hit mine with the buffing wheel on my grinder and had mine fully polished in about 5 minutes. This thing has adjustable airflow, to set up for whatever draw you want, and it has a drip basin, to catch leaks before they come out the airhole, which helps if you are learning to wick properly.

And as far as carrying coils in your vape bag, I don't see why you couldn't. I would store them in possibly an old prescription medicine bottle or something of the sort, along with a cotton ball to make a wick out of. Although, wrapping coils can be done in a fairly speedy time, once you get used to it. I use a triple twist 32 gauge Kanthal A1 coil, wrapped at 1.4 ohms on my (new to me today) VTR, and it hits beautifully, and the taste is out of this world!

That is the exact same clone that the smoke shop here carries. As for the coils, yeah I was thinking a little plastic box that automotive fuses come in. If I had to "build on the go", what about torching? Do I need to carry a torch around too? lol

If you roll a 30ga micro for it, and stuff some cotton in it, you should be able to use that coil for a month or so. The cotton will have to be changed out every 2-3 days, depending on your juice. After my coil gets gunked up, I run it under hot water and gently scrub it with a soft toothbrush and dry burn it. Good as new for another week of tank fulls.
Vapor Bank is having a big sale right now, with the HCigar clones for under $35. My experience is with the Kayfun Lite +, and I'm pretty happy with it.

Just for simplicity sake, I just need a drill bit, wrap the wire 5 (or so?) times, center it up over air-hole, bottom of coil level with the top of the screws, and tighten. Am I right? I know I need to decide what gauge wire, and what size drill bit, but my eVic tells the ohm of the coil when it is attached so I would shoot for around 1.5 or so?

You wont need to torch your kanthal if you're doing a basic 5/4 wrap or something. If you're wrapping a micro coil, which I'd recommend, yes, a torch would be helpful. Technically, you pinch and form your coil mounted on the deck, firing it till it glows, then pinching the coil together, but that's a more challenging way to do it.
Once you have a good micro on it, you wont need to carry around extra coils, as it'll last a while. When you're out and about, carry your KFL+ and a backup stick battery with an EVOD or something simple on it. I usually leave home with at least two setups, sometimes 3.

Anything with the diameter you're looking for, a drill bit, an allen wrench, jewelers screwdriver, toothpick, etc. 30ga wire will work for ya.

There are many buidling vids on youtube for coiling the KFL. Wrap your coil, set it perpendicular to the screws, wrap each leg around the posts, tighten down, put some wick in there (unless you've wrapped the coil around the wick already), put the chamber on it, snip the wick off about 1/8" above the chamber, tuck the wick down into the chamber sides, presoak your coil/wick with juice, assemble the rest, fill the rest through the bottom fill hole, mount and vape.

I have 3 Kayfun style atomizers, Tobeco, Ehpro, and The Russian 91%. The R91 is the best, not by a lot, but one feature sets it apart from the rest. The air inlet holes are configured differently on the R91 from all the rest (including the original Kayfun Lite). The way the air is channeled into the R91 makes it unique. It's the least noisy of all the Kayfun style atomizers (no whistle what so ever). The quality and materials in the R91 are top notch as well.

FYI, was just over on Angelcigs.com and they've got some pretty good prices on Kayfun clones, though I can't speak to their quality. I didn't get mine there.
The whistle IS annoying, but I counter it by putting my air-adjust in quite a bit. If you like the stiffer draw, then it'll work for you.

For those who haven't tried it Ramie top is the best wicking material I have found for use in my Kayfuns. I have tried silica, cotton, hemp and now Ramie, and the Ramie comes out tops hands down. Ramie has almost no discernible flavor imparted to your juice like the others. Add to that the superior resistance to scorching of Ramie (even on dry hits) makes it my preferred wicking material.

I would go to the good vape shop and ask about the kfl they have. Make sure it's a kfl+ with adjustable airflow and talk to them about it. If it is go with it and have them instruct you on how to build coils and wick the atty. sure there are plenty of videos and how tos online but it's nice to see in person how to do it. Plus they probably have wire to get you started.

If it's not the one you need order one online eh pro makes my favorite kfl+ clone and comes with all standard tank configurations. When it comes in take it to the shop and they probably will help you get started with it. Have fun with it it's a great tank system.

The KFL has the clear tank and all. I think I may go with it. I just trust more having someone sit down with me. I am very mechanically inclined, but I would rather learn hands on instead of YouTube!

I would suggest 1 of 2 Kayfuns.

1) EHPro Kayfun Lite + v2 - It has a bottom fill port and adjustable air flow that many complain of as too tight, even with the airflow all the way open. I don't find it so. I find it to be great.

2) Hcigar Kayfun 3.1 - It is larger (taller) than the KFL+ v2 by a good margin, but I feel like it has a smoother draw (which is also adjustable). Overall, I think it is a better atomizer if performance were in a vacuum and these weren't attached to a MOD that we carry around.

If a (much) smaller profile is desireable, the EHPro KFL+ v2 is the way to go. You can get them for around $30-$35 on eBay. It's a great piece that performs very well. If a top performing Kayfun (clone) is your preference and you don't mind having a (much) larger profile atty, I would suggest the Hcigar Kayfun 3.1. You can get those for $35-$40 on eBay.

All that said, the performance difference can only really be appreciated when you have and use both (I think). Both are great. I have never had any kind of problems with either version.

The best resource I have found for new Kayfun builders is this video. Watch it. Copy it exactly and you will get great results pretty quickly.
