so my button started getting really tight, so i decided to strip my reo and give it a vodka ultrasonic bath and move the button up and down to loosen the grime etc etc etc. one thing led to the next, i wasn't that gentle, and the tube ended up coming loose. i have spares (same as the one that came loose - the thick gauge one) so that's good. but then i started poking at the excess glue that was on there from the last time i attached a tube, and off popped this thing (attached pic). what is it? do i need it?

(^^ sounds like a porno)

please help

Is that the rubber / vinyl piece that slips over the firing pin? YES, you need that. It probably wouldn't happen immediately, but it's a small form of protection against a short. That screw that holds the delrin block in the body is a negative point (-). And the firing pin is positive (+). If by any chance those 2 touched, it would melt the spring I'm sure, but could end worse than that

thanks everyone.

@redeyedancer, i'm seriously considering sending it for a tune up, but is there no way i can do this myself? is the piece itself broken by the look of it?

edit: looks pretty torn, and, yeah, gonna send you a PM :) - thanks dude
If you can get it back on the positive plate it should be fine . I would give it a shot and if you cant just send it to me good luck

makes sense to first try, especially since i'm not in the usa. i think first i'll order another reo before sending this one for tweaks.

how do i get it back on properly? i've managed to slide it on but i'm not sure what i'm trying to achieve to prevent a short.

When you press the fire button and it pushes the flat metal plate down to make contact with your battery, you want the flat metal plate to be insulated where it comes into contact with the metal screw that holds the black delrin cover in place. If you slid it back on, it should be in the correct position to achieve this.

The insulator slides over the metal plate, leaving the tip exposed to make contact with the battery.

I've never disassembled my Reo as depicted in the image you linked, so I can't be certain how to answer your question. The caped mod shucker can assist you. Shoot him a private message or e-mail.
