Hi, i quit smoking cigs 4 days ago and started vaping to help me quit.

i bought the e vic vt Kit with e go mega tank and using the pre installed nickel coil with suicide bunnys mothers milk with 3mg nicotine content.

when i first used the device it was vaping really well, smooth no harshness on the throat and giving a satisfying feeling good enough to not let me think about lighting a cig. yest i opened the tank up and gave it a good cleaning, the coil looks as good as new and i cleaned that too and refilled the tank but now i am feeling kind of a harsher hit on the throat . do these vapes need wicking also? if yes how is it done? am i doing something wrong?

any help or comments from the community would be appreciated!! thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to the forum @pv77. Glad to have you here!:)

Couple of things.
  • Nickel coils have to be run in temperature control mode.
  • Coil must be "primed" before you use them.
If you cleaned the coil by running it under water you have to give it a day or so to let the cotton wicking dry before priming.

All cotton coils have to be primed well with juice before you start vaping. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the burned/harsh taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops of juice right inside the coil (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head), another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

thanks for the prompt reply.
Yes i did prime it and have been using a temp control mod-Joyetech E Vic VT . Now the hit is not too bad but it was so much better before. Do these coils need wicking(my understanding of wicking is changing cotton inside) ? so basically as i said it was a good hit before but now its kind of hot and it does not give that cool vape feeling on exhaling which i really enjoyed first 2 days.

someone told me to add a few drops of water in the tank.

What exactly did you do to the coil so far? Yes, every coil will need a wick, and once a coil starts going bad(typically around a week, but if you have really sweet juice and are vaping a lot, it'll be sooner), you'll need to replace it. You can rewick it with fresh cotton(a quick google search of the coil type you are trying to rewick will turn up the results you are looking for), but most people just buy new coils to replace the old ones.

If you detail how you "cleaned" your coil, it'll help everyone to get to the bottom of just what might be happening.

So your question is does the coil need to be rewicked.

Usually a coil does not need to be rewicked unless the coil needs to be changed. If you are using Joyetech's CLR coil heads they can easily be rewicked.

If you are using some other type of coil it may be more difficult to get to the cotton to rewick.

Adding distilled water can help if your juice is too thick to wick well. High VG is thick and some coil don't do well with high VG. It you think this may be a problem you could try adding a couple drop of distilled water per ml of juice to thin your juice down.

To add to this, make sure, like Susan is saying, that you are adding DISTILLED water, not purified or tap. Both contain natural minerals and can be bad for inhalation.

If you can get your hands on some propylene glycol, that'd be much more ideal for thinning out your juice, but distilled water would work just as well.

So basically as i mentioned my tank is the e go one mega which comes with the E Vic VT kit. I basically opened the tank and washed it thoroughly and dried it . all with water only and tissues. i did not wash the coil simply unscrewed it and cleaned it with a tissue untill it was dry, even the bottom golden(nickel) bit. thats about it. will adding water to the e juice help. i just want a fresh vape feeling with cool and not harsh and hottish vape that hurts the throat . also any recommendations on healthy e juices that you guys have come across, without diacetyl and AP? I am currently using suicide bunnys mothers milk . i take about 100 puffs a day is that too much or average. used to smoke about 8-10 cigs daily and now im not smoking any of those.

Bottled drinking water contains minerals that are naturally occurring in water, mineral water has added minerals, so the answer is no, bottled water is not ok.

Suicide Bunny doesn't disclose their PG/VG ratio, but mentions it is high VG, so try distilling it a little with a very small amount of distilled water or PG(PG is a safer bet, because you KNOW that it is safe to vape).

I couldn't tell you what average puff count is, because I don't keep track of that, and most people, as far as I know, don't, either. However much you need to keep you off of cigarettes is a good amount.

You shouldn't be feeling a harsher hit if you didn't really mess with the coil, and four days doesn't seem like enough to really make a difference in your coil. If you can, try a new coil and see if that helps at all. If not, it could just be your body and throat adjusting to not being subject to smoke every day, so you will pick up a little more sensitivity. Try lowering your wattage and see if that helps, too.

Please share the setting you are using on the EVIC. Power level, wattage, temperture etc.

Do you have another coil you can try?
Have you opened or closed the air flow to match where it was before?

Umm.. Stop with the water thing... Your "unit" did fine before you cleaned it...Why would you need to add anything NOW to get back to that point?

BTW: If you want "safe" juice, SB is NOT a good choice.

As far as usage... Dizzy? Stop, Cranky... puff more.
Kinda like coffee...but without the lethal caffeine.

Cheers

If you DID NOT worry about "Those" chemicals in your cigarettes...Why do you care now?
Vape what you like.

My only other tip is to start at a LOW wattage and work up.
Just because you can run a 4 min mile, doesn't mean you HAVE to always move at that speed.

Once you learn your equipment, your enjoyment WILL increase.

You're getting good advice, so I will only add dropping the temp a bit will cool it off some. On the eGo One Mega, the air flow is controlled by a rotatable ring at the bottom of the tank. Rotating the ring widens or narrows the air port aperture, and this controls air flow through the tank. Welcome to the board.

Glad you got it working! Every thing you learn to fix is helpful in the long run.

I would choose Charlie Noble myself. They publish test results with each liquid.
