I dont know about damahing the mod but:
1. Is it true copper or an alloy / plating? If so may not work at all
2. Is it sealed? Alot of copper stuff can have a clear coat on it to specifically keep it from oxidizing
3. Personally I wouldn't do it, have you ever handled normal green oxidized copper? Its like rust and rubs off and can get on hands, cloths etc... I suppose you could seal it after or try.

If the process gets to the threading you may not be able to unscrew your mod or screw it back together so I guess that would be possible damage.

You are basically oxidizing the copper adding a coat of non conductive chemicals, so if you really want to do it, you'll need to spare the switch, top cap, and threads on all three components: switch, top cap and main tube or tubes, to preserve the main function of the tube which is to conduct electricity for which all three parts must be in perfect contact. But I've never attempted anything similar so I am just guessing.....good luck

Are you planning on doing your own patina mixture or buying one. I would personally leave it be, after some time it will take on its own patina. If it were mine I'd keep it shiny as a new penny. I worked for a sheet metal company when I was a young lad. We replaced copper on a dome of a local hospital. At first we couldn't find anything commercially made to exactly match the patina that was on the accents that weren't replaced, then I had this idea since most of the dome was covered in bird crap why not scrape some off mix it with water and soak the surface down and see how it goes, turned out to be the rite thing for the job. I look at that dome everyday as I pass by heading to work. I wish they would have just coated it in clear and left it shiny it was beautiful.

No mater what you decide you have to be happy with it so I wish you the best in your decision.
