OK, I tried direct dripping, and now my atomizer is gurgling, the draw became very hard, and virtually no vapor comes out.

I tried pressing the button for a bit longer (on a 510), and got no more vapor, but the thing got very hot.

I put the cart back on - same thing.

I tried dripping because prior to this I was suddenly getting no flavor at all, just mildly burned taste, on a fresh cart. Well, it's not a freshly *washed* cart, but a freshly topped off cart.

I did run warm water through the atty last night, and blew air through it, and it's only a few days old. The cart had also been washed last night and filled and topped off today.

I looked inside, and the tip of the wick looks metallic, not charred. I can't see the sides too well tho...

Could I have put to many drops on the atty wick, or is it dying on me, or what?

:confused::confused::confused: 8-o8-o8-o

I just smoked a couple of analogs - they taste like s***, but I can't take the stress! Heeeeeeeeeelp!

<beating my head on the wall and leaving a dent, while the dog is watching on with a sarcastic grin on her face>

Sounds like your atty is flooded, disconnect the atty from the battery, take the cart off. Blow out the atty into a paper towel. Put it back together and take a slow long draw, see if that helps.

OK, just did it. It seems to be better, though not quite normal yet. I'll blow some more. :D

Now my dog *really* thinks I've gone nuts.

jimik, thanks for the link - I read the thread, but I don't think that's my problem, I checked the little holes and they are clear.

Thanks, guys,
Briar.

Flooded atomizer.

If the cart was full you just flooded it more.

This doesn't make sense to me though.

If you were getting a mildly burned taste, that would mean your atomizer was dry, which means your cartridge needs topping off or more time to wick up some more juice. But if it was freshly topped off then it did not need to wick. So maybe you needed to let the dry atomizer sit for about two minutes so that it could wick up some of the juice from the topped off cartridge. That is the only thing here that would make sense to me.

I find that when I clean atomizers sometimes it takes awhile to get them back up to speed.

I personally think that is because they are not dry enough and still have some water in them.
But I have not confirmed that to be the issue yet.

Well, when I think carefully, what was happening is that the first few drags on a newly topped off cart would taste like they should, and then the taste would just go away and I'd be left with an ever so slightly "burnt ash" flavor...

I thought maybe the filling was dirty or something? That's why I tried dripping. I was getting really tired of playing with this thing, and just wanted to vape in peace...

Maybe that's it. This thing hasn't been right since I cleaned it. I wish I hadn't. It's just not making as much vapor as before, and all the rest of it. I blew it out several times, but even with dripping (I only do two drops at a time now) it barely makes enough vapor to count - even for me. If it ever comes back, I'll just blow on it. The heck with washing. :)

Cheers,
Briar.

I just blow out mine with some canned air then wipe it with a paper towel. Let set 10 minutes then prime and wait another couple minutes.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll do from now on. The worst thing is that I don't have a spare yet. Lesson to all the newbies out there: never, ever be without a spare! Wish I wasn't so cheap and ordered a better kit to begin with. One atty and one batt just doesn't do it. Sometimes I just want to shoot the thing. 8-o

Oh, well. New technology and all that.

Briar, hopefully your atomizer has resumed it's normal operation by now. As for your carts. If your first few drags on a fresh cart taste good and then subsequent drags don't, it could be a matter of how often you drag on your 510. The 510 atomizer burns through juice very quickly, so a fresh cart will provide the liquid necessary for the first few drags, but if you vape with very shorts pauses inbetween (which is how I vape my 901) then the atomizer may not have enough time to wick more liquid onto it. Therefore, you will get a nasty metallic/burnt taste. (This is the main reason I switched to dripping) Does this match your style of vaping?

Yes, it does, actually! That would explain it. I'll try slowing down.

But the atomizer maybe dying anyway, unfortunately. I tried just two drops on it, and it's still not giving much vapor, even for me.

Someone suggested taking a multimeter to it in another thread, and I'll do that, so we'll see.

I can't wait for my shipment of spares and PCC to arrive. I'd really like to just vape trouble-free for a little bit! :)

Thanks!

Briar.

Also keep in mind that if you have hit it hard enough and frequently enough to dry out your atomizer, because it can't wick the juice fast enough to keep up, then just putting a couple of drops on it will not help until you let those couple of drops wick into the material under the atomizer bridge and down to the atomizer.

I'd say give it a minute, or better yet two, after a dry atomizer hit...

I did that... Gave it a couple of minutes, that is. More like five, actually. No difference - still not much vapor.

I tried a PG juice now, both as a drip and as a cart (I was doing VG before, and thought maybe it's too viscous for a good wicking action). Drip is a little better, but not much. With a cart, I'm constantly getting a mouthful of juice, and not much vapor, other than on the first hit. And I am waiting a bit in-between now. With a cart it's definitely a wicking issue, in addition to everything else, but I am just not sure what to do about that.

I'm getting very, very frustrated. I got to enjoy this thing maybe for an hour before things started going wrong...

Also, I often smoke because of stress, and taking one puff a minute is just not doing it for me. Ack. :(

Do you think I should just drip for now, and try a different unit when I can get enough money to order it? Like a pen-style maybe?

With this 510, I can't drip VG-based stuff, even one drop seems to do strange things to the atty - is it always like that? Can I only drip PG stuff?

Sorry to hear you're still having atomizer issues. If you take the cartridge off and press the button, does it sizzle and pop? If so, your atomizer is fine. I'm not really sure why you'd be getting reduced performance, but me personally, I'd (re)treat it like a flooded atty and blow out the excess into a paper towel. If you get a lot of liquid on the paper towel, that will probably verify flooding was the cause. After you've blown it out, put it back on your battery and try to vape one hit (don't have to inhale, just suck it into your mouth and then blow it out). If you get good vapor, that would again support the premise that your atty was flooded.

As for PG vs VG, I'm a huge fan of vapor and tend to add glycerin (I use Humco brand from Walmart) into all of my vapes. Glycerin is definitely thicker, but I've not heard anyone complain of wicking problems....but then again, I only drip these days.
