Need some ADVICE/INPUT

Can anyone give me some advice? I am currently a smoker of about/maybe more then 1 pack of Ultra Lights a day. I have been reading the thread for V4L. I am pretty interested in the brand. But what I am confused/having trouble deciding is:

1. Manual or Auto battery?
2. What size (short, king, king xl) to get?
3. What flavor/flavors will help to stay vapor instead of wanting a smoke?
4. What all do I need to order to start out with?

I don't want the "juice" dripping all over the place. If anyone has any other brand that they like better then V4L...PLEASE let me know and why?!? ANY advice/input is GREATLY appreciated. I am looking at ordering within the next couple of days.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Definitely manual batteries. They are just much sturdier...will last longer. And, you have more control of your vape.
2. What size (short, king, king xl) to get?
I'd say get the biggest battery they offer....which would be xl. I think it's a 480 mah, which is pretty good. Maybe 4 hours between charges....

3. What flavor/flavors will help to stay vapor instead of wanting a smoke?
I'd get a variety of flavors/nic strengths. Get small (5ml) samples of different juices.
4. What all do I need to order to start out with?
I'd get at least 3 batteries (1 extra if you get a kit) and some blank cartomizers so you can try out your own juices. Don't get prefilled.

I don't think the vapor king leaks unless you overfill the cartos. There are other starter kits out there that are just as good...maybe a little cheaper. A lot of people here (me included) who love the Joye eGo. You can get one of those from E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings for around $50.00. It's a bigger battery....meaning it'll last longer between charges.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Hope that helps. Keep asking questions. Do you need for it to "look" like a cig? Do you like tobacco flavors?

JCnewbie - thank you getting back to me. I have never heard of the Joye eGo. I just did a quick search on it and it looks interesting/good. No I don't need it to look like a cig. Just as long as it works from the get n go so I don't get frusterated. As far as flavors...I don't know...just have always smoked plan smokes for 20 years (OMG...I didn't realize it has been that long). I think from what I have read is that I need to go with the 36 (?) to start out with...give me some ideas for flavors...I do like peppermint, sweets (lol).

Welcome to the World of Vaping!

I personally don't have any experience with V4L, but I thought I'd at least send some generic suggestions your way-

*Don't spend a huge amount on your first e-cigarette purchase: most people seem get started and then get serious and keep looking until they find a device that really meets their need.

*Try to avoid being stuck in the rut of wanting a device that looks and feels as close to an "analog" cigarette as possible- most of these don't vape as well and may actually end up being more expensive long term.

*Don't count on saving money right off the bat. You might, but it seems pretty common that folks have to try a few different devices and e-juices before they have a shot of actually saving money.

*Don't believe any press releases that say an e-cig cartridge or cartomizer will last as long as a pack of cigarettes- they won't.

*You will need more ejuice/cartridges than you think.

The above all applied to me big-time and others may have different experiences, but from my reading I know I am not alone.

From what I have seen and read, I think that probably the best devices to start with are either 510 /compatible or DSE801/compatible devices.

The 510s are popular and more "mods" (modified or specialty) e-cigs seem to be based on them than anything else.
The DSE801s are pretty popular and hold just a bit more juice.

Batteries: both styles have advantages and things they are best for- but in the very beginning I don't think this SHOULD be a critical issue. If you can try to get one of each, otherwise just make sure you can have 2 with your first kit. While one charges you can be using the other.

My guess is that since you smoke(d) ultra lights that switching to vaping may not be too hard for you. As a heavy smoker it has been hard for me: I started with a mini e-cig, then DSE801 and now a fancy liquid-fed device. But each step got me closer to "vaping perfection" and cut down on the cigs.

I don't know if there is any "perfect" answer for what and where to start vaping, but the guidelines I wrote above could at least help keep the costs low while finding what really works for you.

Good luck!

BTW, an eGo is also a 510. Made by the same company....just bigger battery. I started with a Joye 510 then went to the 510 eGo (bigger battery). RogerDugans is right....don't expect to save too much money at first. These are cheaper than cigarettes, but all the money is up-front, so you don't see the savings right away. However, no matter what you spend, it probably won't be more than a couple of cartons of cigs. After that, it's way cheaper than cigarettes. Everybody thinks they need tobacco juice because they're trying to replace cigarettes. But there's no juice that tastes like (as bad as...) cigarettes. I'd suggest some really cool fruit flavors...I love Blueberry from VaporBomb.com. And I also love peach. One of my favorite non-sweet juices is coffee. Love coffee to drink...and also love vaping it.

You can find a 510 kit at Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. for like $35.00. And they have eGo kits for $59.00. They are awesome to deal with.

I'd suggest you watch MistressNomad's videos. They're stickied up top of the new members forum.

1) Manual vs Auto Batteries - When I ordered my first pv, I was convinced it needed to both look like a cigarette, and be automatic. It turns out I prefer manual batteries, and it doesn't need to look like a cigarette at all! This will obviously vary from person to person, just like all aspects of vaporizing, however, from my reading, it seems that manual batteries are by far more popular than autos, even among those who thought they would need a auto.

2) The size will directly correspond to battery life. The bigger it is, the longer the battery will last. In my opinion, more battery life is better. The less often you have to change/charge batteries the more convenient vaporizing will be, and the more convenient it is, the easier it will be to stay avoid cigarettes.

3) Flavors will depend entirely upon you. I have tried several flavors so far, and the only ones I can vape for more than 20 minutes or so are the tobacco flavors, and sometimes the coffee flavors if I'm in the mood. I haven't yet found a fruity/candy flavor I actually like. However, many people love the fruit/candy flavors. So you will pretty much have to try them yourself. Same for nic levels. I find 18-24mg/mL perfect most of the time, but first thing in the morning and right before bed I vape 36mg/mL. Many people don't like high nic at night as it affects their sleep patterns, but I seem to need it to fall asleep.

4) As far as getting started is concerned, most starter sets that come with 2 batteries and 2 atomizers will let you get a pretty good idea of what vaping is all about. The biggest weak spot in most starter kits, in my opinion, is the lack of juice. The handful of pre-filled cartridges that came with my kit barely lasted me until the second day.

Also, I am in complete agreement with JCnewbie above, the ego is fantastic. When you compare prices to other starter kits, even though it is a bit more expensive than the smaller batteries, you actually get way more battery power for your money. An eGo kit with 2 650mah batteries will give you about 5x the vaping time you would get from 2 cigarette style batteries. Which is far more convenient, and as I said above, I think convenience is the most important factor contributing to a successful switch from cigarettes to personal vaporizers.

ETA: If you do decide to go with the eGo, make sure the starter kit you buy comes with the high powered USB charger, as opposed to the standard 510 charger with adapter. My first ego kit, actually the Tornado from Totally Wicked, which is an eGo made by JoyeTech but rebranded by Totally Wicked, came with the 510 charger+adapter. The second eGo kit I ordered from HealthCabin came with the USB rapid charger, and it is amazing! Charges a 900mah battery from completely dead in just over 2 hours, as apposed to 5-6 on the 510 charger.

I have V4L XL manual batteries and they last about 6 hours with constant vaping. It is a good idea to get different flavors and nicotine strength juices in small bottles to test out which flavors you prefer. It is difficult to say which flavors you will like and will forget about cigarettes. You also need to buy maybe 2 packs of empty cartomizers. If you order a kit, it will come with 1 pack of prefilled. I like the prefilled I got, cowboy menthols (i smoke menthols). I wouldn't buy a 3rd battery in case you do not like the PV you purchased.
Keep in mind you might not like all of your of juices. This is where you'll need to keep exploring and have fun with it. :)
