i am very femiliar with the single 18650 mechs.. i know ohms law and what not i just got my first stacked mech this christmas ik you need to get 2 new mariied batts and need to alternate tops but do i run my batts like this? or the real question is what way do i insert my batterys in a dual 18650 tube mod. should i put them in (from top cap to firing bouton) pos neg pos neg, neg pos neg pos, pos neg neg pos, or neg pos pos neg. its all kinda confusing to me

Hi and welcome. Both batteries the same way and positive up toward the 510 pin, unless your mod has a faux hybrid (direct-to-battery) top cap, in which case I recommend negative up to the 510 (others disagree with this and will say positive up at all times), or better still getting a mod with a 510 pin connector. There is some danger in putting batteries negative up in a tube mech; a wrap tear can result in a dead short when you push the fire button. I think a faux hybrid connector is a greater danger-- assuming you inspect your batteries and won't use one with a torn wrap-- so I go the othet way as its harder to dent the negative pole than the positive. But in a stacked tube, both batteries must always face the same way. Your diagram is correct.

Remember in so doing you will have doubled the voltage applied to the coils and must therefore also double the coil ohms to keep the same wattage. And pay careful attention to the maximum discharge current of your batteries; it does not take a super-low ohm coil to raise the amperage very high at 8+ volts.

i got a tvl shotgun mod for christmas they call it a hybrid too cap.. (you cant take it off) but its straight up battery to 510 pin

Did the mod come with an instruction manual? Any instructions on the website? I would follow whatever instructions the manufacturer recommends.

Generally the positive end always goes toward the atomizer, UNLESS the manufacturer has designed it to work the other way round.

Always inspect the battery wrapper for tears on the battery insulating wrap before putting it in the mod or putting it in the charger. Metal to metal contact with the battery's side can result in a battery hard short.

Stacking batteries end to end (also known as "series") will double the voltage output, but mah and amp limit remains the same as a single battery.

Side by side (also known as "parallel") will double the amperage (actually only 1.5 times in real life use) and mah, but the voltage output remains the same as a single battery.

The below instructional video discusses this, beginning at the 14:40 mark.

I hope that you have done your research into hybrid (direct battery) mechanical mods. In the wrong hands (naive users), these are literally potential pipe bombs.

The only juice attachment that you can use with relative safety with this type of mod is one which has an extended center 510 pin. Using one with a flush center pin will cause the battery to instantly hard short.

If this is your first e-cig, or your first mech mod. I STRONGLY urge you to retire it until you have gained more knowledge and experience. Nobody wants you to appear on the 5 o'clock news as the latest ecig tragedy.

A Beginner's Guide to Your First Mechanical Mod
  • Covers the differences between a mechanical vs. regulated mod, essential safety accessories, optional safety accessories to add layers of safety to your mech, routine maintanance, use of proper batteries, proper ventilation, low resistance vaping, and faux hybrid mods.
