I realize this isn't the correct forum to be posting this in, unfortunately I don't have enough posts under my belt to post it in the correct one. If a mod would be kind enough to move it to the correct one it would be much appreciated :).

I had been using a 901 for a long time and loving it with the LR atties. The thing I didn't like was that the battery life of a 901 isn't that great when using a LR (like.. sometimes around an hour if I'm heavily vaping). I have been getting all my parts from valuevapor.com and they've been very good to me, so I asked him what he would recommend. He recommended the 905 so I bought it. I loved it.. my batteries would last 8+ hours even with a LR, and the vapor production was just as good as a 901.

Unfortunately after a week or so I noticed my battery life going down further and further, to the point where it was worse than the 901 and then eventually just not even working with the LR atty (worked fine with the normal one). I emailed James at valuevapor again, and he said that the batteries included in the kit aren't any good, but that the Trustfires that he sells as well are much better. I ordered 2 sets of the Trustfires and he threw in an extra set since I got a dud with the kit.

Now here's my problem: they arrived and the new batteries are about 1mm shorter than the old ones so they won't fit in the charger correctly. I decided to test if they'd work with the LR atty and it gives me the same problem (acting like the battery is dead) but works just fine with a normal atty. I emailed the vendor immediately and he still hasn't gotten back to me (almost a week ago).

Is there anything I can do with this or did I just waste 60$ on a starter kit and then another 15$ on batteries and end up with a shiny paperweight? :(

Maybe those batteries need magnets/spacers. Some vendors carry them one that comes to mind is Clouds of Vapor.

I'm not an expert on batteries but there are some things to check out when using lr atty's on certain batteries, I think someone with more experience on battery specs will chime in to help but Ikenvpae has a good battery resource link on their website if you scroll down to the suppliers area.

The 905 is a 14500 battery MOD. 14500 ICRs generally have a max drain rate that is less than what an LR atty requires. It sounds like you may be pressing up against that limit. Also if those batts have any over-discharge-protection circuity, that may be kicking in when you hit the switch with an LR atty on it.

Return the Trustfires if you can, or if you use std resistance attys or cartos, use them only for those... or buy a flashlight that can use them. If you told the James you were using LR attys, and he sold you the trustfire ICRs... idk... that's kinda bad on him because what's below about IMR chemistry is pretty common knowledge now.

Get some AW 14500 IMRs and you should be good to go with LR attys. These are "hi-drain" batteries. They can drive about 3 times as much current as the ICRs, more than enough for LR attys. They have no protection circuitry to get in the way, the battery chemistry is safe(r). AW batts are among the best, and in this size batt... IMR is the only way to go for LRs. Trust me on this one, I use small batt MODs (even smaller 16340s) and LR attys.

The take away of all of it is... get the AW 14500 IMRs :)

Maybe the battery you bought is a different mah. Most of the fat-battery units have different length batteries for different mah

If I was you I could consider getting a Joye Ego (510-based) - it's the most supported fat battery ecig. There are adapters for lots of different attys including 901. And there are lots of LR 510 attys and 306 attys which also screw right on

Or if you want a 901-based unit look at Riva 901

Thank you, this is very helpful. When I contacted valuevapor he told me that he loves to run with the LR atties and uses the 905 with the trustfires for extended life. He actually got back to me as I was typing out my first post and told me how to fix the charger so that it would take the Trustfire batteries. The battery has just finished charging and I was going to let it charge over night as per recommendations for new batteries, but I'll go ahead and test it out to see if it works with the LR atties.

Tested it.. no it doesn't work, same issue as the original batteries that came with it (short charge life.. acts like a dieing battery).

IMRs for LR attys are a really good thing to have, but there can also be some other issues with battery MODs that you should be aware of and that could explain what your seeing too.

Have you cleaned and noalox'd the threaded connections? I don't have a 905, but most tube MODs rely on the threaded connections (where the tube and the end-caps screw together) for conductivity. Sometimes those connections are not as solid electrically as they could be. Aluminum can corrode and these threads require some maintenance. This is where a anti-corrosive conductive grease like noalox is useful to get a good electrical connection. I'm pretty sure Home Depot has this stuff.

And what type of switch does it have? Mechanical or some kind of micro electrical switch? Is it replaceable? The switch can be another point of failure in a MOD, or partial failure in the form of excess resistance in the switch. Diagnosing and replacing a lossy switch can be tricky.

Hope i haven't overwhelmed you with too much information and instead have given you some ideas that help you get things working to your satisfaction.
