Alright, so there are a few questions that I need help with.

I'm going to be building in an Infinite Plume Veil rda copper mod. I'm looking to build between 0.4 - 0.6 ohms.

What I'm really looking for great vapor production in the mid/warmer range of vapor.

edit: Some extra information. I understand battery safety already. I've physically built rda's with my friend helping me but I haven't ever been the one to pick the kanthal or choose how many wraps to do. I've vaped on sub ohm setups but haven't owned one. I'd prefer to vape at high watts as to chase some bigger clouds!

Questions:

1) What type of kanthal should I be using? 26 or 28 gauge?

2) How many wraps should I estimate for 0.4 - 0.6 ohms assuming I'm using a 1/8th" drill bit? (Obviously if its inaccurate I can rebuild a couple of times)

3) Is there an instance where it would not be appropriate to push the coils directly against each other? I'm assuming that even if they're bunched up they'll heat the entire wick anyway. Or are there instances where I need to have the coils spread out slightly to cover a broader area of the cotton wick?

I've tried using calculators and I think I'm filling them out incorrectly or they're inaccurate. Can someone please help answer my questions?

I'm not really experienced at these high wattages what'll be a "hot" vape and what'll be a "cold" vape. Like I said I'm fine getting hot enough for big vapor production, I just don't want to start tasting burnt.

If memory serves me correct. I built my Vulcan with a 5/6 wrap, dual coils, wrapped with a 2.4mm bit. I was around .5 Ohms (checked with SmokTech ohm reader and VV/VW box) with a nice warm vapor. Vapor production was pretty good, not necessarily clouds but, very good. I was using Cotton Bacon for my wick.

What kind of mod are you using? Mech or regulated?

and what kind of batteries? Do you have a meter to see your resistance before you fire the coil?

I'm using a stingray x clone. (mechanical).

Yes, I have an ohm meter. I'm just trying to get an idea where to start.

Dual coil with 26 gauge....

That was the calculator I used, but I think I messed it up. Does that mean 7 wraps on one side 6 on the other? Or...

Thank you!

This is the build I am vaping on right now. Plume Veil, duel coil 26g 7 wraps on 1/8". Comes in right at 0.5 ohms. Running on a Sentinel MI6 Mechanical Mod with high drain batt. Nice warm vape with good vapor and great flavor. Also running all air holes at full open.View attachment 374397View attachment 374398

Thanks RWClark, that definitely does help give me a good starting point.

So back to my questions guys.

1. Most of you said 26 gauge, that is what I'm going to want to work with right? I know it depends but for some reason I really can't fill out the calculator correctly somehow.

When the calculator says 7/6 wraps or the calculator says 5/6 that means 7 on one side 6 on the other or 5 on one side and 6 pn the other right? For example here http://puu.sh/bCcfx/d031d9fe14.png can I ignore "number of wraps" and "number of wraps rounded to full wraps" and just look at the half wraps? Then translate to 7 on one side 6 on the other?

Q3: Still needs answered hopefully, I'm confused on that part.

For each coil I compress them so they are tight (each coil touching, using cotton wick material). I've seen some builds with silica where the coils are not touching.

Here is a link to info on kanthal. Hopefully it helps out. I used 26g as it was what I had. I use 24-28g depending on deck space.

That's what I figured (and have done), thanks. I'm just making sure with builds with less wraps 4-5 for example if I had to do anything different like spread them out.
