I am convincing my sphynx breeder friend, to not take the champex for her and her husband but to go straight to vaping instead. So with me being a vaper now since jan/2011...started on the 510, then bought a mini tank from the UK and now have my first mod the Omega. All have been super awesome ecigs, and I have had great success with them staying off the analogs. Now I need to go over to her house this week with all my toys for her to try.

Would love to hear what questions I should ask them for what they are looking for. Such as should I ask what type of battery life they want, price? What about flavor and size? Anything else I should ask them?

Also, what does everyone recommend for a newbie vaper? Any cig models i should refer them to? I also have tried the ego, but wasn't all that impressed with it to tell you the honest truth. Burnt atty taste, but then again I was dripping. Can't wait to hear all the feedback, there are some very knowledgable people on this list with a ton more experience to share.

Take a laptop with you and check out the ECF Library with them and have everybody's questions answered. You have one of the best starter e-cigs already, take your 510 with you, only starting off I would recommend prefilled cartridges until you get the hang of it. Then work on refilling and go from there.

I'm very surprised to hear that you weren't impressed with an eGo as IMO it is by far the most versatile proprietary e-cig starter kit on the market.

For newbies I always ask them what it is they really want, let it be long battery life, a cigarette form factor, no leakage, strong TH (if the person is a heavy smoker for example), good flavour and so on. Depending on how they answer I will offer the best possible advice for them and suggest a kit that is a good fit.

Bloog/ Volt - I suggest this kit when it is essential to the person that the device is "like a cigarette" and they don't want to drip (thus getting greasy fingers). I am always sure to stress to never fill the cartos while they are on the device (and to gently blow out the carto into a kleenex after filling) and explain how the automatic switch works and can be irreparably damaged by juice.

JoyE eGo - This is by far the most common starter kit I suggest to newbies because they can try dripping, Low Resistance hardware, tanks, cartos (and many many varieties of them as well), feeding systems like the Fog and vapemate, and so much more. It offers an awesome battery life and reminds the user of a cigar in size. Without the eGo I would still be vaping my 510 and smoking!

Otherwise there are not many other devices I will suggest for a newbie. If they are a casual or light smoker then perhaps a 510, but the Bloog/ Volt would still out perform it and simply means they would need to take shorter draws which is always a bonus.

When I came to the forums to get advice about what to get, someone suggested a Riva 510 with cartos. I took their advice and am a super happy all day vaper. I got it at liberty-flights.com. It came with a case, charger, 2 batteries with cones and 5 cartos for less than $35 (with a 20% discount code). I am a total noob and it has been no worries and I would recommend it to anyone.

i'm pretty sure they are gonna want their pv to be as little hassle as possible. They are gonna want it to be as easy as picking up a cig & lighting it. In that case.........suggest a Reo.

everyone i've ever tried to switch using carts..........ended up going back to cigs.

That is so true, the cartridge is obsolete and unless they are modded with the highping mod serve little purpose IMHO. That being said, most of the time I find people have to get over the learning curve of vaping before they move up to a high dollar mechanical mod.

reosmods.com I own one and it is awesome, but I can't see someone getting it for their first PV. It is a big investment for someone who doesn't know if vaping is for them, and if an analog look is at all important then it won't appeal to them at all.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, a reo is totally worth it, and in hindsight I wish I would have started with one, but it is only after I had spent hundreds of dollars trying to find something that hits hard and is hassle free that I got past the looks and the price. As soon as I got it, I knew what all of the fuss was about, but for my first few months of vaping I never thought I would be vaping a box or paying $140 for a fancy mod. Then once I finally starting thinking about taking the plunge, the lingo about batteries and ohms and watts and squonking and reonauts, etc was overwhelming. It took a lot of reasearch and reading and asking questions to actually feel comfortable enough to order one (after a long wait and a mad dash to checkout before someone else got mine!).

Ah yes Lelly, a friend of mine just bought one and was asking me what color he should get! DUH! Yes I don't know if this will be for them. But I will be bringing my Omega mod over to show them and let them try that out and see what they think. I will explain to them all about mod's of course. They are heavy smokers both of them. when I go over to her house to visit her sphynx, which is quite often as she is a 20 min drive and over the ferry, she smokes one after the other. In 2 hours, she has gone through 10 cigs. I wish I had a bloog for her to try out. I still really want one.

I'd recommend the "Volt" carts are cheap and easy to fill... my mom has been using hers a little over a month now..

good price for starter kits and does ship to canada.. batteries last about 4-6 hours between charges.. so as long as a batt is on the charge yer good ...

carts last about 2-4 hrs depending .. but great TH and flavor ..

Volt- Smokeless Image. I have an affiliate code I could send you but I won't even try here lol.... Very reasonably prices (MUCH more so than Bloog) great performance- Looks like a cigarette (grr newbies usually WANT that) reasonable battery life. Terrific shipping prices to Canada if you don't mind waiting a bit.... LOTS of color choices.... It is a KR808 D-1, same as Bloog, so there are lots of benefits without the high price...

If they are not stuck on Cig look----- A Reo is terrific!
The eGo....hmmm Great battery life. Not a bad starter, but if I had been introduced to that leaking, horrible tasting, juice running down over my hands mess before I was vaping already, I would not have continued. Lucky for me my 510 cartomizers fit on the eGo batteries that came with my kit, so I still use it as a backup, but the cones and tanks were a complete waste of money and my time ( I tried everything to make it work... it sounds GREAT in theory)

Good Luck D&P--- if you keep them off the Chantix/Champix you might have saved their sanity as well as their lives :D

Thanks girlsaint for all the info! Now that I know Volt is like KR808D, that sounds great and if it is cheaper than bloog, even better. Like the batt life of it too. I have told them that they may get suicidal thoughts on Champex, heck I tried Zyban back in the day and OMG..that was loopy. She was pretty good listening to me on the phone last night on teh champex side affects and I know they are nasty. I better get my .... over there so I can start going over this with her and her hubby. I told them about ECF, but with their cattery and him working full time, they aren't on the computer much. Gosh, I feel like I may just be saving them some heart ache with the champex if I can convince them not to go that route. I also explained to Susan yesterday on the phone, that with champex, it takes away your nic craving, but when they start ecigs, they will get their nic, so what is the point in doing champex at all? I told her, for me, I love my nic, and that I feel very blessed there is an option out there called ecigs, that allows me to vape my nic, but not getting the harsh carginogens thus vaping food grade ingredients. Went over what pg/vg was even. She is convinced that this is the way to go. Now to work on the husband.

Awesome advice here and I respect your criticism of the eGo. As always with e-cigs it is a matter of subjectivity, I always try to keep that in mind and suggest exactly what someone wants/ needs. Without the eGo I would never have quit smoking and given up on e-cigs ages ago now, sorry to hear that it didn't work well for you.

One thing to keep in mind is that vaping doesn't work for everyone, so spending for a mod in the beginning could put a bad taste in someone's mouth as well. Also, most vapers enter the world of vaping not knowing much about batteries or how to properly care for them so this could also effect their vaping experience as well.
