I use a different type of rda (A7) so my builds may not work in yours.
But, my ADV is a very simple build:
My coil starts out looking like this, 5/6 wrap of 30ga around three strands of 0.8mm silica. (1.8 ohm coil)

I then squeeze the coils together with my thumb nails, so that it looks like this, and then mount it in my A7.

I then dry burn and squeeze the coils together with tweezers, so that it ends up looking like this.

Bought a Patriot clone that is coming in tomorrow, primarily bought it to use as a single coil device to experiment with. Does anyone have any builds they would recommend to try out?

Right now I have a dual micro coil set up with twisted 30 gauge (6 wraps) coming in at .57 ohms and I love it.

Search "Rip Trippers" on youtube! He has done a whole bunch of interesting RDA builds lately like: Nano Dragon Coil Build - YouTube Just be aware that Rip Trippers has some really cheesy catch phrases but he is entertaining to watch!

Haha that guy cracks me up, but I definitely want to try that nano dragon coil build. Looks ridiculous!

Whenever I get a new rba/rda, I always first build a simple micro coil with hemp fiber or cotton wick. That way I have a good reference to start from. Micro coils are very consistent and easy to build and install. So then when I go to tweak it, or try a twisted dual setup, I can more accurately judge any improvements.

Yep, hemp fiber, looks like cotton, but wicks better, lasts longer, and is more heat tolerant. I bought some to try out and am extremely happy with it. check out the Just Hemp Thread to get a better understanding. I still use cotton on test builds to try it out, but once I have a build that I am happy with I wick it with hemp. Hemp Traders is one good source for Degummed hemp fiber, but you do get a lot of hemp for that price, and may want to split up the cost with several friends.

so you can use hemp fiber that has been degummed in the same way as boiled and prepped cotton?

I take a standard sewing needleI'm betting it is barely 1 mm but I am not sure of the size. I wrap 14 or 15 wraps of 28 gauge on it and then place a chunk of cotton underneath it for wicking it measures out about 1.2 ohm. I do dry burn it and squeeze it before adding the wick. This is probably the most forgiving coil I have built. You can bend it or angle it and it is then a nano dragon but it is not necessary. This compares in vapor production to my dual coil build measuring at .7 ohm. Flavor is awesome. I'll post a picture in a second.
