Hello,

Just got back into vaping last month. Purchased the iStick 50w and Tobeco Supertank. Loved it, and have had zero issues until....
One night I was sitting at the computer, with the iStick plugged up charging. A box popped up on the computer saying 'cannot recognize USB device' (it was plugged into the computer to charge). I look over at the iStick just in time to see a little puff of smoke from the charge port. Quickly unplug it, and can see a charred spot on the charge port on the device and the end of the cable.
Ever since I purchased it, the only way I've ever charged it was through the computer while I was sitting there...never left it unattended. It will no longer charge, no matter what I plug it into. So I was at least able to use it for the rest of that night and into the next day.
Went back to place of purchase, and no refund/return. In between paydays, so couldn't afford another purchase right then. They were super nice and have loaned me one of their demo unit iStick 50w until payday. Got home, and it was still showing almost 3/4 battery, but a lot of times when pressing the button, it would show 'power low' and not fire. The next day at work was a b...., more often than not it would not fire. Normally go through a tank of juice by 3pm, but this day I barely vaped 1/4 of that.... I could afford a pack of smokes, and was seriously contemplating it.
After work, went back to store, and explained what was going on. Luckily it was malfunctioning with the owner too, so out the door I go, with another iStick 50w. This one is still working perfectly.

Whew....sorry for the long post...wanted to get the back story out there. Like I said, I loved the device, when it worked. I've got to have something adjustable, as I tend to adjust the wattage up/down depending on whatever. Plus, I'm trying to get the wife comfortable with it, so I need one that can go up/down to suit our needs. Eventually, she'll get her own.

I'm considering another iStick 50w, eVic VT, ipv4, mvp3pro.... can't remember what else they had.
Not sure I want to go the route of replaceable batteries, as that would be an added expense along with charger.
I do know that, eventually, I'll be purchasing a back up (not necessarily identical) in case something happens. I got really irritated when I couldn't vape and don't want to go through that again, lol.

Help!!! I've been watching reviews on so many devices lately, I can't remember one from the other.
I know taste is subjective, but I want my flavor, along with plenty of vapor. In my supertank I'm currently running the .2 coil (it came with .2 & .5), but will be switching back to the .5 once this one drops off. I'm vaping the .2 at around 40w, and previously on the .5 around 30-35w.

Hopefully, someone is still reading this, and has some insight that would point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Kyle

I had my iStick 50w for 5 months I think and it was still going strong and sold it locally. I charged mine through my laptop. My dad's lasted 6 months before it quit and he had a backup that is going strong now.
I have the Innokin Disrupter and it's a great device. Charging through the laptop too, running 0.57 ohms and 50w all day every day.
Personally, I refuse to ever use a Joyetech product again. Let me put it this way, if I had a choice of quit vaping or use a Joyetech product, I would quit vaping. The MVP 3.0 Pro seems to be a great and durable device. I've seen people crush them and stress test them and it still worked fine.

Thanks for the replies so far. Was watching another review, lol....

Haven't gone up to 50w, other than a hit here and there....tip tends to get a little too hot for me on the higher settings. Still trying to find the 'sweet spot' where the flavor is great and not too hot.
I really like the larger battery, though. 4400mah would last me at least all day, give or take. Not a fan of being tied to a charger.

Hi I'm not sure which devices you like or what your needs are but I was looking for a new device for myself as well and I found the ipv4S. it's 120 watts capable and has temperature control and will also run kanthal wire or nickle wire or titanium wire. it has one of the best chips being the new yihi chip and it is upgradable through the computer! it's nice looking, not too boxy and takes two 18650 batteries. take a look online and see what you think. it's got a incredible price . most places under 70 dollars . see if you might be interested. hope this helps.

I love that device as well, fits comfy in the hand and looks great with a black subtank mini

Needs? something to keep me from going back to analogs, lol. Would like something that doesn't feel like I'll break it just by pressing the buttons. Must work with my supertank with .5 coils. Adjustable, so that I can get my wife comfortable enough to want one of her own.
I'm not concerned with temp control (at least I don't think I am, like I said I've been at this for a month this time around)
Don't think I'm ready yet for unregulated anything.... lol
I'll check out some more youtube and see what jumps out at me....wait, that sounded soooo wrong.
Thanks.

I would make a list of the things YOU want in a unit, then look at units that will meet those wants. Things to consider, do you want removable batteries. or wall charge. look at the specs. you mentioned you wanted to be able to sub ohm (coils under 1.0 ohms) make sure your unit will run a sub ohm coil. think of size, display, watts, ect. there are so many great choices I'm sure you will find a good one! best wishes

I've been pleased with my eVic VT. 5500mAh, comes with an eGo Mega tank, and two coil heads--one 0.2 and one 0.4

I've had great results with it. I had an iStick 50W, and it also died a sudden death.

I'm kind of interested to see how long that switch on top lasts.
Seems like a bit of a weak spot where juice/gunk could get in and it seems a bit flimsy.

I have been happily using istick 30s, but wanted something with a replaceable battey, so when the battery goes, in roughly a year, I could just replace it. Bought a couple of
Heatvape Defender 50 watt mods, and am completely content with them. Adjustable, spring-loaded pin, works just like the istick 30: Press fire button, get vapor. You can charge it with a wall wart and USB cable. Can take coils from 0.2 ohms to 3.0 ohms. No tc.

Maybe the Evic VTC mini? Replaceable 18650, mech mod mode, VW mode, TC mode for NI and TI wire. 1-60 watts. Spring loaded 510 pin.

I'm impressed with these myself. If I were in the market for a new regulated mod (and I'm not), I'd get a Evic VTC Mini. More power than I'd ever need (60 watts), Temp Control, Bypass Mode (use it like a mechanical), replaceable batteries (a huge plus in my opinion). :thumb:

I'm not surprised with what happened with your iStick 50 watt. iStick 50 Watt Exploded

I've only had it three weeks, but so far, so good. The switch on top is very firm and sturdy. It has a great range of adjustments. No complaints yet...
