While Carl Phillips' analysis of the NEJM article is correct, its important to note that its authors basically support e-cigs and THR, but want to maintain their alliances with the tobacco controllers.

My biggest concern with the NEJM article is that it urged FDA to impose the "deeming" regulation, which would ban all e-cigs (per Section 905(j) and Section 910).

I've had various correspondences with Amy Fairchild (and Ron Bayer, who previously criticized outdoor smoking bans), and have urged them to not support FDA regulation.
