Hey Everyone,

Just received my hcigar magnet switch kit and tried to install it in my fasttech nemesis clone. The magnet is just a hair too small to fit over the rice pin, so either my clone isn't exactly 1:1, or I'm doing something wrong. I watched todd's installation video after I had been having problems and he did it exactly as I planned to; the pin fit right under the magnet and it was a 5 second job.

My question, then, is twofold: first, has anyone had this problem? Todd says in his review that his ease in fitting that pin in was a fluke; so I'm assuming that sometimes it is more difficult for him or for others he has seen do it. Any tips as to how I can get this thing in?

secondly, if my top magnet is in fact a hair too small, how can I grind it down a bit to make it fit? I know that these neodymium magnets are really brittle, so I don't want to just get to it without asking here first.

Can't wait to get these damn things in. Thanks in advance!

While they say "1:1" there are still quality issues with clones and the tolorances aren't as tight as they are on the originals.
If you've watched the videos then it's probably not user error...I mean it's not THAT hard to install magnets in a switch.
I would say some sanding down of various parts is in order. Not sure I'd go trying to mess with modifying the magnets as they're pretty fragile. I know I've broken a few myself without even trying.

I agree. It isn't user error. Are you familiar with the nemesis switch? I don't need to sand any big parts, just the tiny little "rice pin", as it's called. So it is either modifying that (which would be verrrry difficult because of its size), or modifying the magnets. Like you and I said, those magnets are so fragile. It seems I've reached an impasse unless someone here has seen this issue before and has an idea.

Disassemble switch
Retain all parts
Install 1 magnet to switch end cap
Install 1 Magnet (reversed) above first magnet and hold in place
Slip switch threaded section onto switch shaft and compress
Align 1/2 circles and insert Rice pin
Thread in switch contact pin

Smile at your success :)

* The magnets ride the shaft BELOW the rice pin*

Ohhh! So the rice pin sits above both magnets? Wonderful! If you're confused as to why I had trouble, look at Todd's short tutorial on the process. His was actually a fluke and I thought mine was shoddy because of it. I'll try it now and get back to you all. Thanks to everyone who has contributed!

Yes, I'm familiar with the Nemesis switch. I have two authentics and had 2 hcigars that I gave away because compared to the real thing, they sucked IMO. Crunchy switches aren't my thing nor are counterfeits.
I've actually went back to the springs on one of mine because just two magnets in 650 mode with a KFL+ made it a little iffy and 3 magnets took too much pressure. Although I do keep a 2 magnet setup in one of them.

Oh and the HCigar is so 1:1 that every piece on the original nemesis fits perfectly. Now the Tobecco is a different story as many things don't work with it though switch magnet upgrades all seem to work fine.
Not 100% accurate there my friend, they do not all inter fit "perfectly". At the point when I had both authentic and fake at the same time, I started messing around with the switches mixing parts between them. There was issues of fitting with the switch housings and pins. They were slightly off and would not work with each other. Yeah I could use a fake button with real housing or vice versa but the pin would not fit. I don't remember the exact combo but yeah there's minor differences.
While the threadings may be so close that they work, there is still QC issues on the fakes and the finishing isn't as good.
There's a reason there's so many threads on how to fix such & such clone/fake by sanding stuff down or doing this or that to fix crunchy switches or other threadings.

I have 3 of the HCigar and have tried a friends original tubes, switch and connection ends and every thing fit perfectly including the switch parts such as pins, springs and contact screw. I also tried his stealth cap and it worked fine also. So that is what I'm basing it on however I had a Tabecco and nothing would fit at all.
