New 510 - Charging question - Not dead yet

Today is my first real day with the 510 meaning it's the first day ALL my batteries are totally up and running, 2 manuals and 1 auto batt and I'm trying to go analog free (so far, so good!) :D

I do really like it...you've all converted me ;)...but more about that later.... Gotta quick question and a busy day...

Can I put the batteries back on the charger if they're not dead yet? I have a ton to do today and I've been sampling different flavors in all 3 PVs so now I have no idea which battery has been used the most, etc.

So if a battery is only half used and I recharge it, does that harm the battery? I don't have the PCC yet and I'd like to take all my batts wtih me, fully charged, when I leave the house today but that would require re-charging them when they're not near dead yet.

So far everything seems to be working really well (except for one atty that seems a little groggy but it's getting there) so since it looks like I got good equipment, I definitely don't want to mess anything up.

Hi Speed,

Lithium batteries have no memory effect like the old NiMh ir NiCd cells. It's actually better to top them off rather then let them fully discharge..If I'm not mistaken the 510 takes about 1-2 hrs to recharge..Probably a lot less to top off..That's where the PCC is really nice, the light tells you when its topped off (accurately) lol

so then why does it say you have to charge them for 8 hrs the first time if they dont have memory issues? i just got my first pv in the mail not 1hr ago an its a 510, the instructions say to charge it for 8 hrs the first time even if the charger turns green (indicating done) and im really anxious to give it a go. i can be patient and wait till 9 pm :( but i was under the impression that the initial charging cycle was for memory issues

thx

Nobody knows. The manual says to charge 8 hrs initially and we do it. I charged one of mine that way and the other I just used as it arrived until it was dead, then I chraged it. I can't tell any difference between them.
In this world there are people who read manuals and follow them scrupulously (my wife) and there are those who open a box, toss the manual and start using the product (me). Never the twain shall meet. Do whatever feels good to you.

My experience with 510 batteries is that, MAYBE, if I'm not vaping at my normal insane level, a battery will last 1 1/2 hrs. Mostly they are good for an hr at most.
I made a 510 NicoStick and can vape my 510 most of the day without changing batteries.

Thanks guys and gals for the quick answers the other day! I topped off the charge on all of them and off I went and I was good to go for the whole day!

Since then, I've been using my charger kinda like a PCC...as soon as the vapor/taste/hit decreases, I stick that batt on the charger and switch to a new one and just keep repeating the cycle all day.

I'm hoping this method doesn't prematurely kill my batteries, but until I get the PCC it's what I plan to do.

The light usually goes green in about an hour...sometimes more...sometimes less...depending how long I've used the battery, I'm guessing.

I don't read instructions unless all else fails.

Ah, and there you have it. I followed the instructions, and my batts are all lasting twice as long as yours.

hi
i got mine today from the widow and it says she pre charged..does that mean charge for 8 hours anyway somke 20 min the recharge for an hour again.. like the directions say

ty
i am excited...

Hmmm....some suppliers pre-charge but don't condition the batts. Cigtechs state their 510s are charged to 40% (likely apx. 2-3 hrs.). If it were me, I would charge The Widow's an additional 4 or 5 hrs. - vape for 20 mins. and then charge 1 more. That's just MHO.:)

EDIT - and welcome to the club, dawnmarie!

Glad I'm on ignore from one so lost in his profundity.

All the advice I give is matter-of-fact. That rubs some people the wrong way, but that's how I am. The 'no need to condition batts wives' tale' has gone on long enough. It started with some expert opinions from some qualified techs, but degenerated into an issue that actually keeps those with new products from reaching total enjoyment from them. It can't hurt at all to follow the manufacturers' instructions. We all got impatient, and it kills us to wait for those long hours (seems like an eternity when you are anxious to taste that great RY4 for the first time). BUT - you will see better battery life in the long run. You can take my word for it, or you can believe a guy who's batts only last an hour now.

It's up to you.:)

EDIT - you'll thank me later.

"Conditioning" one's batteries is a new term for me? Please bear with me.

If I understand correctly, one "conditions" a new battery by:
1. Patiently leaving on the charger for 8 hours, regardless of what color the charger LED turns.
2. Vaping it down for 20 minutes.
3. Returning the battery to the charger for one hour.

I do wish to care for my new batteries properly.

Yes, Enfield, you understand correctly. The 510 instructions for first battery charge are what you stated.

However, not all batteries come with these instructions. My 402 battery instructions were just to do a full 8 - 12 hour charge (no using for 20 minutes, then recharging for an hour), regardless of when the light turns green.

I'm not real sure what the 20 minute usage/1 hour additional charge does, but I'm sure someone else will be able to explain it. I just did it because I'm one of those who follow directions...always. ;)

I got my 510 today around 1pm from e smokey treats, put a battery on the charger, and it was done in 30 min. It didn't blink to be re charged until 11pm tonight! I probably don't vape as much as the rest of you, but after all the talk of terrible batt life I was pretty impressed. I've got 3 extras and a passthrough just in case. :) Oh, and today marks 1 week without an analog. I made this far on a smokestik I found at a smoke shop here in Seattle. Needless to say the 510 blows that thing out of the water!
