So I just picked up a Mutation V3 this past weekend. It's nice and I get great vapor production out of it. My only issue is I have to have someone else build it for me. I've gotten so used to the three post addys that this four post Mutation is just blowing my mind. I've tried several different methods building it myself, but I always mess it up. Either the coils are far too small and too far out for the cap to fit, it wont wick properly, wont heat up at even close to the same speed, or the leads keep touching and shorting out. I know several people find the two positive and two negative posts beneficial, but for me it's not really worth it. Any suggestions on future builds so I can finally quit asking for help? To the point of wanting to sell my brand new addy and entire dripper set up because it just keeps making me feel like an epic idiot. :'(

Hopeless!

How many coils are you trying to make? Just because it has 4 posts does not mean you have to make 4 coils.

Practice makes perfect. Have the right tools for the job. Make larger diameter coils (3.0 mm) for easier wicking.

This stuff below is just ridiculous IMHO:

Bleh. I tried a quad coil in my plume veil.... It was changed the same day lol. Back to single coil.

The easiest way to build on a 4 post rda for me is a dual coil, using the first and third post for one coil and the 2nd and 4th for the other coil. Line em up with the airflow, and it should vape great. That's the simplest way I've found.

4 post designs are 10 times easier to build on to me. Put a coil in, tighten both leads, do the second coil. There is no bending leads and using 2 screwdrivers like a 3 post atty.

If the coil is small, is the 1st and 2nd hole for one coil then just center it. As far as leads touching and coils too far out, or not heating at the same time, this shouldn't be a problem. This should be very similar to a 3 post atty. Cut the leads short, don't have the coil too far from the post, have equal length leads on both coils.

My issue is when I had a set of coils built for me, they went ahead and set it up with leads in 1 and 3 then 2 and 4. But the gotcha was once 1 and 3s coil was set and in place, they took it out to build and place the coil for 2 and 4 then fed the original coil back in, with the leads already cut. And that was just so youre not pushing or damaging the coil already in place with the leads of the other coil for a dual set up. That is exactly what i DONT like and is turning me off of dripping entirely. Talk about buyers remorse! I want my nautilus back. At least that was simple and always worked for me. This whole rebuildable scene is just....whats the point? Its making me want to rip my hair out!!!!!

I never do that, it's a hassle and a waste of time. Put your first coil in, bend the tip of the lead that will go in the other positive hole so when it goes in, it'll go above or to the side of the coil already in place. I've never once damaged a coil this way. A lead has never hit the other coil in place.

I understand your frustration. I also understand the desire to quit and go back to the convenience of a tank.
But in the end, you are cheating yourself (forgive the parlance). You're depriving yourself of a superior vaping experience. RDA's were designed to give the vaper more flavor with a purer taste and extreme vapor production.
While a tank has it's virtues, fill a clean tank with your juice and vape on it for a few hours. You'll notice the juice change color. That is diminishing the flavor of your juice. While in an RDA, there is no diminishing as the impurities are trapped by the cotton.
Keep going, don't stop now!
Vapers never quit!

But then again there are the Arctic tanks and Kanger Subtanks. Plus if I get a temp control box, I can start using the nickel coils prebuilt for the subtank. And I hear they are phenominal and produce the same amount of vapor and flavor as a dripper. I don't want to just throw in the towel here, but it's been constant problems since I bought my skyline and every single RDA I have. I just dont see any other alternatives than ditching my RDA and going subtank on a temp controlled box. Just loosing faith, and quickly.

I stand corrected. The Arctic and Kanger SubTank are simply awesome! While they're not the same as an RDA, they do produce near same results. Admittedly, I have a bias as I switched to straight RDA's a few weeks ago.
Short story: I was in love with my Gladius X tank on my MVP. At the same time, I started messing with RDA's. I would switch from Gladius to RDA and vice versa.
By the time I went to dual coils, I couldn't stand the taste out of the Gladius. It was so weak and then I started noticing the change in color of my beloved Ghostberry in the Gladius tank. I've been a dripper ever since. Hence the user ID ;)
At any rate, I wish you the best of luck and go sub tank if you wish but never give up on the RDA.

Thanks for the advice. Ill keep trying for now on the RDAs, but a subtank is definitely on my wish list in the future.
