New and Confused. Am I doing something wrong?

I just bought a starter kit that came with two Vision Spinner batteries and two Kangertech EVOD... cartridge I would have to assume they are called? It came with a case and a charger as well. At first there were no problems whatsoever but in under 7 hours, taking a hit caused a burning in my throat and barely any cape "smoke". Is there a certain way to hold it that I was unconscious of and am now doing it wrong? I am trying to quit smoking and honestly so far this is disappointing for a beginner with vaping. D: I am guessing its some beginners mistake due to it working great and then not in so little time. Any tips would be appreciated from the more experienced vape users. :)

PS its on lowest setting and attached photo of it.

I'm here, when I'm here
Make sure your liquid level stays above 1/3 full and you're not accidentally adjusting the voltage higher than the coil will allow. I'm not familiar with Spinners myself so I'm sure someone will chime in. This will help too Volts,Ohms & Watts. Evod tanks are good imho. Good starters and I still use mine. Don't draw too hard either. That could cause too much heat coming up the chimney.

Good luck and Happy Vaping!!

With the EVOD tanks make sure you don't over tighten them onto the spinner. You wont get enough air flow. Tighten them down til they just get snug. If you hold it up and look right where the bottom chrome base part meets the top of the spinner you should see just a bit of a separation where some light comes thru. Hope Im explaining this right. Also with the power way down you wont get much of a vape. Try it around 3.7- 4.0 that's a good starting place and you can tweak it from there. It will also depend on what ohm level the coils are. I've gotten them anywhere from 1.8 to 2.5

Hi There, I'm also new, will try to help a little but would really like to hear others answers.
I do a checklist (juice level, battery charge, voltage) when mine isn't working right, but it is usually that it needs a new coil. Did you get spares? Change it and see if that makes a difference. I've been frustrated a few times, hang in there!

Oh right, better specs may help eh? The coil that came with it is 2.2o and I loosened it a tad and will try when my throat is a little better .

Juice level is good, more than 1/3. Battery charge not sure but not blinking like they said it would. All levels from 3.3 to 3.8 burning my throat. I have literally been taking a "puff" every now and again after tipping it different ways and trying short/long hauls, not sucking too hard just length of inhale. It was working fine for a few hours as I mentioned. Maybe its not me, I have to go in to the store tomorrow anyways due to one of the tanks having a defect on the lip part that is a tad sharp on the other cartridge. Maybe they can help too but was hoping to figure it out and not give in to getting a pack of smokes. I was planning on picking up more coils tomorrow but is it common to blow one in under 24h? My spinner can go from 3.3v to 4.8v. I don't think I had it set that high. I kept it on what the store person had it on until the burn in the throat thing started happening then turned it down from what they had it on.

By the way thank you, its nice to know that there is a good community here to help us new people out and to talk about this stuff with. :) Little less discouraged even if it is not solved yet. :p Anyways update... as I was writing this throat felt better... loosened and much less throat burning sensation. I feel quite silly but very appreciative as I was worried I was out over 100 xD thank you.
I wonder why it started before though. Either way thank you.

They suggested I start on 18mgjuice by the way, is that typical for a pack a day smoker? And how often should I be taking a haul so as not to be getting more nic than I am used to?

18mg nic is pretty standard. Just out of curiosity, what is the PG/VG ratio of the juice you're using? I have a bud that sometimes vapes 100% PG. I tried it once and nearly died choking. Was like a donkey kicked the back of my throat.

One common cause of a burnt taste is not enough liquid getting to the coil inside the EVOD. Easy solution take a couple of draws without pressing the fire button, this will draw more liquid in.

Also vaping is different from smoking, take a slow, gentle, long draw on your PV. It's very different from a quick sharp puff on a cigarette.

Ha ha sorry, and I feel your pain but that was an amusing way to put it. Uhm to be honest I haven't the foggiest. The bottle says the brand, the flavour name, keep away from children/pets then Contains:USP VG/PG Natural/Artificial Flavouring and USA made nicotine. :S I will try googling the brand and maybe can find out there...?

Hi and welcome to ECF. Sorry about the throat burn. You've gotten some good advice and I would add that it could also be a "dry hit", which happens on occasion and can occur from drawing too quickly and the juice does not have time to get to the coil wick, hence the name "dry hit". It can also occur from a thicker juice that doesn't get to the coil wick. I had to remember that vaping was different from smoking and that long, very slow draws worked a bunch better than the quick deep draw from on a cigarette.

Kryyptyk's comment about PG is right on because PG is one of the factors for throat hit. I want some throat hit, but not too much, so I use a 50% PG and 50% VG mix which works well for me. I also have to remember to stay hydrated and drink water when I vape (and try to drink more water when I don't vape).

Vaping has a learning curve, just like smoking did. I had to "learn" how to smoke. Now I get to make a healthier choice and I "learn" how to vape.

This is a great community and you will get a lot of support, encouragement and good suggestions from the folks here. Glad you found us and remember, that what you learn you can pass on to others who will have similar issues. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Keep the vape and namaste.

Thanks for the tip! They didn't really say anything at the store just brands ohms and volts and I was like... o.o okay...? And they said to look things up online for anything I needed to know.

Sounds like dry hits--not enough liquid getting to the coil.

Kanger Troubleshooting 101:

If your clearo is flooding, the connections are not tight enough--or too tight. Keep reading.

If you're using clearos and getting a burnt taste it means that not enough juice is getting to the coil and you're basically vaping dry, hot air or inhaling smoke from the gunk that's burning off of your coil. Not a good thing. Another case of bad taste maybe the tank itself--some arrive covered with some kind of nasty grease; wash them with soap and water (just the tanks--soak the coils in PGA or vodka).

There are a few things you need to remember when using a T3 or an eVod or a ProTank--in addition to keeping your coils clean and free of gunk that accumulates on them.

1) Make sure that the atomizer coil is screwed into the base tightly--every time you refill; they often come not fully tightened from the manufacturer, or may have gotten loose through repeated refills.

2) Look at all the inner seals and gaskets to make sure they haven't become dislodged.

3) Make sure that you screw the tank into its base tightly. If it's not tight, it will leak.

4) When you screw your clearomizer into your battery, do not overtighten--screw it in only until it makes contact--no farther, or you may push the center post in too deep and cause all kinds of problems, including leaking. When the draw becomes tight or the taste and vapor production begin to diminish, replace the coil. This will happen sooner (even as soon as one day of heavy use) if you're using dark, viscous, or very sweet juices. The old coil can be cleaned and dry burned.

5) Make sure you're not getting any juice in the center tube when you're filling--this will cause your eVod to leak like a sieve. If some juice gets into the tube, close the top cap, place a tissue under your tank and blow gently through the clearomizer to get rid of any excess eliquid. Also, extra condensation inside the tank may, on some occasions, drip back into the center tube. Wipe your mouthpiece dry with a q-tip or a tissue when you refill (or more often when/if needed).

6) Take an occasional "primer puff" (a slow draw without activating the battery) when you vape. It helps move the juice into the coil chamber and removes any air bubbles that sometimes form in the tank and may cause gurgling or impede proper wicking.

7) Take slow long draws rather than sharp and quick ones like we used to do while smoking cigarettes. Do not over vape, chain vape, power vape. Let the juice travel to the coil between drags.

and last but not least

8) Do not remove any flavor wicks if you're experiencing any leaking or flooding. Those wicks are there for a reason. If you feel that you have to remove a wick because your eliquid is particularly thick, do it carefully--one strand at a time. If your liquid is super thin, you can thicken it with a bit of VG (USP--pharma grade) or you can add another strand of cotton to your flavor wick. Don't add too much or you'll choke your atomizer and get a dry hit.

Also, make sure you're vaping at correct wattages; I like 5.5-7 watts.

Good luck!

Don't screw the cartridge on too tightly. You might have already burned the coil if you're getting the burning taste especially if you're going to vaping at a high voltage.

Yes and no. It really depends. I started at 12 mg/ml and now I'm at 12 mg/ml.

18 is almost too much for me, I can't vape 24 at all. Other users report that they needed 36 at the beginning.

Try different strengths. Your body will tell you what's right for you.

I agree with all of the above. Something no one else has spoken about is the type of inhale technique.

Most of the nicotine in vapor is absorbed mostly in the mouth, throat, and nasal passageways (not so much in the lungs). Therefore, instead of inhaling directly into your lungs (as some smokers do), imagine sucking on a straw in a milkshake. Use your cheek muscles to get a mouthfull of vapor and hold it there for a second. This allows maximum absorbtion of the nicotine, and also will allow the vaper to cool in your mouth. Then inhale into your lungs.

While exhaling, exhale some of the vapor out your nose. Again this allows more absorbtion of the nicotine, and also will allow you to best taste the flavor. The nose actually has more nerve endings to taste than does the tongue. This can be understood when you have a head cold with blocked nasal passage way and you are unable to taste food.

Also, there are 3 tiny holes in the base (silver) part of the evod. Some people like to cover one or more holes with a finger to make the draw tighter...some prefer it looser or more airy. Try not to cover the holes, and your draw would be a bit cooler with more air.

I agree that my first thought was you are getting dry hits and everyone has alredy covered that aspect.

After reading all the great advice I went back to your op (original post) hard to say if you are doing anything wrong assuming your battery is charged and your coil has not burned out this is what I do when my t3 which is pretty much the same acts up. Take the tank off the battery and clean the top of the battery with a small wad of paper towel or kleenex now take you tank and put a wad of kleenew over the mouth piece and flip the tank upside down. Blow through the unti 4-5 times untill it feels and souns clear. Male sure you have the holes in the side ov the base covered by you lips or in your mouth. Dry the underside of base with kleenex. Now flip back upright and re attatch to your bat. From this poin on keep your tank upright dont set on its side or point straight out when hitting. Gravity and a vacuume keeps juice from leaking. As others have said start at about 4 volts. If it tasts burnt volts to high or inhale too slow. If not enough of that tasty cloud volts are to low or your sucking too hard.
Good luck hope we helped

I stick a toothpick in one of the holes and break it off.

Sounds like dry hits; if you vape constantly, the coil can get too dry;
The liquid has to soak on the wick and gradually soak its way towards the coil

But that does not usually happen with bottom coil tanks like the evod; bottom coil tanks usually get the opposite problem where the coil tends to flood out and you end up getting gurgling sounds.
