I have been lurking the forum for a few days and scouring the googlenet reading everything i can come across on this e-cig thing. This site seems to have a plethora of knowledge on most products available. After roughly 10 hours of research and reading reviews i went with the puresmoker.com the DSE901 which seemed to have excellent flexibility for replacement and positive reviews. Plus for the price point figured i wouldnt be out a whole lot if it didnt turn out so positive. But im optimistic and between readin of all the satisfied and just the positive health benefits of not using tobacco smoke. Hoping this is a home run. Also, there are a ton of guys and gals out here very interested in how this turns out for me and are basing there decision on my results.

Any tips or pointers that can be provided would be super!

Thanks in advance.

Max

I'm a newbie like Max, and I followed his lead and went with the DSE901 from puresmoker.com. I am a stubborn smoker, and haven't tried to quit since 1991. I hope this product puts me on the right path, it's time for a change, but I am going to need all the help I can get.

I never even heard about e-cigarettes until tonight. One of my husband's students told him about today in class. Read some stuff, found this e-forum, and decided to take the plunge. 8-o If all goes well I'll look into getting another one. Some people here seem to recommend having backup.

Hello Magsman, welcome to this forum and to e-smoking.
A back-up device is very important, if you really want to try to get off the tobacco-cigs.If you would be into that say a week, and something happens to your one device leaving you stranded, you will be back on the tobacco long before the faulty part can be sent back and forth, or before you can get another one in... and once you are smoking both e- and a- regularly, it gets harder to leave the analogue (the tobacco one).

Best bet is to try to make the transition within days, weeks at most; and then try to stay off real cigs completely for at least a couple of days. Then you have a good chance of finding the real cig to be disgusting, next time you want to try one again for whatever reason. And this experience really helps you to decide to stay on the e-smoking....

As for being a stubborn smoker: so was I... and I got the e-cig, and just didn't have a need for the real cigs anymore... up to today I still have some packages lying around... and they are still as sealed as they were 7 months ago... ;) (and I was a 2 to 3 packs a day smoker for around 45 years, yet this worked... so... good luck to you too!)

Hi Max and Maggie

Good choice, good seller.

I hope you ordered spares - the ats n batts will fail, just a matter of when. Good idea to get extra chargers as well, so you don't get caught flat (I like to have four batts perking on the stove at any given time).

Don't worry too much if you can't instantly switch. If you have to, run the e-cig in parallel with hot smokes for a while, see how you go. And don't sweat it if you need a real one - took me a month or so before I could do without the wake-up cig (tbh, I wasn't really looking to quit - just wanted to smoke in bars). Remember, every puff on an e-cig is one you're not taking from a hot one.

Something to be very aware of is that although it looks identical, it isn't smoking. Takes a while to get used to because the vapour has very different qualities to smoke. Texture, taste and longevity mainly, but this is comparatively easy to adapt to. Your first impression may not be 'wow!' but please persevere. The addiction is to nicotine, smoking is only the delivery mechanism and I was amazed at how quickly (and effortlessly) my body ditched the old mechanism in favour of the new. Just didn't buy the next packet one day and that was it.

Something a lot of us do is try a hot cig after about a week without them. This is usually accompanied by guilt and fear that all the good work will be undone, but I'd say don't sweat it. That would be true for cold turkey quitters but you'll have quit nothing at that point. Maybe later, if you want to quit nicotine (I don't) you can step down through the strengths of liquid/carts until you're just vaping flavours.

You may find yourself using it incessantly. This worried me for awhile but there's a lot less nicotine in these things than in hot cigs.

I'm glad you found us and good luck to you both. Enjoy the ride.

That has to have been the most helpful post i have read so far. Aside from the study link posted by tropicalbob on the health thread. I have to say thats what sold me on the idea. But the site and reviews, especially the videos, put me over the hump to order.

Ive tried to quit a great many times and want to quit the traditional cancer causing side (specifically for my children and obviously for my health). I had actually thought up ways to keep using the patch because its obviously the nicotine im after. Ive used the patch the gums the lozenges, even used chantix and zyban and a combination. I ultimately never wanted to end my addiction to nicotine or caffine for that matter. Im not a fool either though and knowing that i am slowly harming my self one cancer stick at a time is unsettleing and well foolish.

Other than the cravings for nicotine and the need to be doing something constantly out of sheer boredom at times. (currently deployed to middle east) The nicotine i get from the NRT product actually seems to be more than ample its the habit/routine that i cant seem to get away from. I enjoyed the doing something part and the socializing with other smokers. Smoking is just another way to get away for 10 minutes and regroup or regather your thoughts also and in the military there not much chance of them approving the use indoors because of the image side of things. Sooo I figure worse comes to worse this will be a great conversational piece on smoke breaks and after work just hanging out.:thumb:

Hi,

I started this e-adventure a little over two weeks ago. It's been an interesting experience. I haven't yet completely dropped the REAL cigs. I still smoke 1-3 a day, but I'm realizing that it is mostly a psychological need and not really a craving. It's awesome though that i started this with a little over 3 packs of cigarettes on hand, and I still have almost 2 packs left (I was smoking a little over a pack of day, full flavor).

It's made a BIG change in my breathing, and the fact that I am no longer congested in the mornings. Also, several people have told me that I no longer smell like smoke. :) And my daughters no longer mind me smoking in the house or in the car.

I'm not yet 100% satisfied with the e-cig, but I'm learning a bit more every day and I'm working on getting it to where I can depend on it and can stop the few-a-day habit. Honestly, it is a bit more work, and there is a learning curve, but so far, it's been worth the money I've invested.

So my advice to you (and again to myself), Give it a shot and give yourself some time to adapt. I suspect that like me, you will find yourself a lot happier several weeks from now. In fact, i hope to hear JUST that. :)

well i've stopped real fags for 10 days now. the first 3 i went with the gum , then whilst looking for inhalers i stumble across the e-cig. EXCELLENT... so i google it and come across smokesters webshop, made an order for a mini and i havent looked back. i was a roll ya own man for 17 years probably sucking in 15-20 a day and since i've been vaping i havent even thought of rolling one up, i've also found a new outlet for my addiction for gadgetry too.. :)
