Hi All,

I have browsed these forums a ton in the past week and got really excited about an e-cig. Thanks for having this place around and being as active as you all are!

After much research, I decided that the M401 was my best starter e-cig and so I hooked it up through Shawn at LiteCig with some juice. I have gone from 30 analogs a day down to 2 or 3 at most...soon to be nothing I expect. :D

One complaint I have is that the hit from this is very dry and I can feel it in the back of my throat. I don't know if this is the "throat hit" everybody is looking for, but I can't imagine anybody wanting the feeling I get. I'm also trying to convince my girlfriend, who doesn't want to quit smoking, to get on these for her health. This issue isn't helping.

So, I'm wondering what the recommendations are for a very smooth, lots of vapor, combination. I can say honestly what I have isn't it. ...Clove is ROUGH! The tobacco is ok I guess...and the marlboro 11mg seems to be closest. I'm coming from smoking ultra-lights and my g/f is smoking lights. The 401 is harsher than either by far.

I suggest trying a few different liquids. Usually the ones that come with kits are DeKang liquid, which IMHO is awful! I just don't care for it, but there are a lot that do! Anyway, my favorites are NHaler, Welcome to NHaler! and DIYflavorshack DIY Flavor Shack by E-Cig Smoke Store They both have awesome liquid
NHaler has HV which is good for both mods and 3.7, and also has lung juice. Dawn at DIYflavorshack has flavors that are right on...cherry is really cherry! She also has a box you can click for double flavor. Tasty Vapor is also a good one I have heard...only tried one from there and it was ok. Congrats on starting your ecig journey!! It is a great ride!! :)

The sore throat issue is common... most of us had one for a week or two and it goes away (drink plenty of water). You'll find a list of common minor issues here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...3305-list-common-symptoms-when-e-smoking.html

Some of the harshness you're experiencing may be from not having the atomizer kept wet enough as well. A few drops on the atomizer bridge each time you refill a cart can help keep good flavor and keep away any harshness that can rasp out your throat and ruin the flavor of the vapor.

The girlfriend may come around. Find some tasty e-liquid for her (TastyVapor has very reasonable prices and great flavors available). Venturing out away from tobacco flavor seems wrong when you are trying to quit, but for most, those flavors are what wins us over to vaping full time.

Don't dismiss any of your e-liquids just yet. If you don't care for them now, put them aside, and revisit them in a month or two. You'll usually find they taste much better or you can cut them with a bit of PG or VG to soften the flavor.

Congrats and good luck!

Thanks Laurie and Hellen! I'll work on finding some good juice and keep experimenting. I was worried this was just "how it goes". ;-)

Great advice from those two and the feeling you state is most likely what they say. One other possibility is that there is shipping/primer fluid that can also be quite harsh. Best is when you get a new atomizer to blow it out or flush it out with juice or 151 vodka and blow it dry then add a few drops of juice to the atomizer bridge and try again. If you didn't do this with one you've started to use but only have had a little while, you might do this to that one as well.
