Good evening! I'm new round these parts and desperate to quit the habit that costs me a fortune to stink like hell.

I've heard so many great things about e-cigarettes, but I have no idea where on earth to begin....

What do I actually buy? Which ones are good? Which ones are duds? Where do I buy from reputably?

When I heard about e-cigarette, I thought that was the name, the brand....only I've discovered there are several different brands, at several different prices which promise several different things. I have to find out what an atomiser is, what a cartridge is, what the different strenghts mean and so fourth!

Is there a "starter" kit as such on the market that gives you everything you need to begin, and if so, can anyone recommend one and where to buy? (I'm based in the UK if that helps and normally smoke Richmond Kingsize nicotine content 0.9mg)

Yours with many thanks in advance,
A very desperate to quit 30 - a - day and counting upwards addict.

Hello ...-ash-lil. I would suggest spending a good amount of time looking aroud the forum before you buy anything. I found out about personal vaporizers not too long ago and made a quick, uneducated choice. I ended up canceling that order after I found this forum and realized that I wanted something completely different than what I had ordered.

I ended up getting a starter kit from one of the dealers that are on the forum. If you scroll down to the bottom you will see them listed. There are some UK dealers also. I would definitely suggest not to just get the starter kit, also get some spare batteries, atomizers, chargers, usb passthru, car charger, e-liquid, etc.

Like I said, take some time to research and learn as much as you can before making a purchase. Everyone here is really helpful. If you have any questions then don't be afraid to ask.

Good Luck,
Amanda

I concur....don't make an uninformed purchase.

Watch the video suggested by Skad. This will answer a lot of your questions.

When you're ready to purchase, at bare minimum, I would say 1 starter kit, a few extra atomizers, and a bottle or 2 of juice, low or medium strength.

As for which supplier to use - I don't know many in the UK, so hopefully some of our friends from "across the pond" will chime in here...

Welcome to the forum - you'll love vaping!

Hi Lil, seems like there are quite a few of us Brits hanging around in here. I've found the advice in here really useful, and have always found Kate's posts in particular to be worth reading (hi Kate).

I have started out with a dse 901 (aka 'mini' cig) and found it very good as a beginner. I would completely echo the advice to get some spares, these things are not indestructible and to find yourself short of an essential component just as you are getting to really like the vaping experience is hugely frustrating.

The best tip I have picked up here is to buy a madly high nic juice (Totally Wicked do well, totally wicked 36mg juices) and dilute them to taste with glycerine, which is about a quid for 200ml from Boots. You get more juice for your money and more vapour as well.

Anyhow Lil, that's just my two penn'orth, good luck with it whatever you chose to do.

Everyone always wants to dilute the high 36mg stuff. I find when you do that it really does change the taste experience. In my opinion the savings is not worth it. Just buy a lower dose and don't mess with it. Have a bottle of the 36mg around to bump up nic content if so desired. You will develop your own routine in time but it does cost to experiment with several different models. I suggest you try several models if the initial experience is pleasing for you.
Best Regards

You have a good point there Aspen with regard to flavour, but if you've got a bottle of vanilla extract (not flavouring) in the cupboard and whack a couple of drops in the mix you're cooking with gas (with the sweeter flavours anyhow). It's probably just me cos I like to mess with things til they're either better or borked, but a couple of quid for glycerine, a couple of quid for vanilla versus twenty quid for liquid...kerching!!

My experience is just the opposite. I buy TW 24mg and cut it 50/50 and I still get great throat hit. I think you would notice the effect with a "lesser" juice, but if you are starting with good juice, I think it wrks out OK.

As a beginner, it might be a bit of a daunting process to cut down higher strength liquids. If you're just starting out, I'd recommend a pre-mixed liquid but that's really up to you. I don't know what you have to spend, how much of a "tinkerer" you are, etc. I will admit though, I'm liking the TW (Totally Wicked) e-liquid. I've heard many, many good things about the 901's (Black or Platinum Mini is Totally Wicked's version of the model), especially if you're just starting out.

EDIT: If I had been patient and not gone for the "impulse buy", I would have started with a 901. As such, I have a RN4081 (Smoking Everywhere Gold, brand) and I think the learning curve might be a bit higher with this model. Regardless of what model you choose, I would NOT purchase anything from Smoking Everywhere. You can find pretty much the same thing elsewhere at a vastly cheaper price.

Wow, thank you so much for the info and for the wonderful welcome on the forum. Spikey's video was fab, an excellent idiot-guide for a starter.

I think from her vid I know exactly how to begin:

Platinum 901 from wicked, with low nicotine content cartridges. I think I'll begin with tobacco flavours to start with and then gradually progress to the flavoured ones, once I get used to filling my own.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I begin my vaping journey!

Kate - my other half calls me ... Ash Lil, because every photograph he has of me I either have a cig in my mouth or in my hand!

I think I'll make my purchase later this evening once I've had a bit more of a look around here as I am very keen to begin, but thanks to you guys a lot better informed and it is not the e-cig I originally was going to go for which would have probably made me very dissapointed!
