I've heard the rumors that something is/was/may be up with QC/QA for the Boge cartos. With my first batch of 20 cartos from Boge I had ZERO problems. Wicked right away, lasted hours before neding refill, life of the carto was WEEKS or even longer. This new batch I got two days ago, the first one out of the box wicked VERY slowly, only sucked up about half the juice I'm used to them taking in, and started to draw tightly after 3 or 4 refills. The second one out of the box I filled as much as it would hold (same slow wicking and not filling as much as before) and it just tastes like that buring filler crap. Kept filling/topping it off and same thing. Ok 3rd carto, now THIS is what I'm used to. Soaked up quickly, filled heavily (I don't know like 20 drops or so), and tastes great (except that by this point I'm using a juice I don't care for as much because after wasting the last of one of my HHV sampler 3 mL bottles.....grr!).

So out of three (2 left in the first box remain unopened):
1 was "ok" - wicked poorly and didn't last as long as what I'm used to both in the before-I-have-to-refill-it time AND in the overall life (before I try cleaining it) of the carto.

1 was AWFUL! going to try cleaning it with boiling ala Pbusardo video, see if it is salvagable.

And 1 was GREAT!

That's 33% so far up to snuff, 33% terrible, and 33% acceptable, I guess.

Anyone have any insight? Will boiling and thoroughly drying the cartos help them wick better? Too tightly packed with filler? Burnt carto taste right out of the box? WHAT IS GOING ON?

Comments/insight appreciated.

Where you least expect it....
Unfortunately, there isn't anything that you can do to improve their performance. There has been a lot of QC problems as you've noticed. As for the ones that taste burnt, I would toss them away since your inhaling smoke rather than vaper.

If the filler is too tightly packed. Then perhaps filling with with a syringe and allowing them to sit for bit. Letting the e-liquid fully saturate the filler material before you take your first vape. Even if it looks moist on top, it doesn't mean that the piece of cotton that's wrapped around the coil is....

For what it's worth, the cartons that seemed to be too tightly packed with filler, started absorbing faster and possibly more volume after the first few fills. Maybe the filler "loosens" a bit or something after a thorough soaking or two. Also am trying Pbusardo's boiling method on both the tight fill ones as well as the burned taste ones to see if that helps as well. The burned one maybe unsalvageable but I'm thinking perhaps I was just getting dry hits and if the filler is more thoroughly wetted with juice, maybe, just maybe, it will still be useable. We'll see, if not in the garbage it goes. I'll report back on this.

I agree with Jimi. If the juice doesnt get down to the bottom of the carto then it gets burnt. I've found that once a carto is burnt there is no way to salvage it but YMMV.

I also use a syringe and insert it between the side of the carto and the filler and put it all the way down to the bottom of the carto .. then I insert some juice and move the syringe by turning the carto 1/4 turn and reinsert it and repeat .. adding juice each time at the bottom of the carto. I usually use a total of .7 ml of juice and after I've inserted it into the 4 different places I then let it sit for at least 1/2 hour but preferably overnight.

If you dont have a syringe, another good way of getting the juice to the bottom of the carto is to do a "taryn spin".
