new flavor to old-probably stupid question

I just realized that I bought all these cool new flavors to try yesterday and am waiting for them, but I don't have any 'empty' cartomizers. The e-cig thing that I have now doesn't have a lot of flavor though. Will it be okay to put the flavored juice in those carts, or do you always use a blank cartomizer to start a new flavor? What about cartos that had flavor before in them. The Nebula I have coming I ordered blueberry flavored cartomizers with, do I have to stay with blueberry with those, or does the flavoring wear off pretty much completely as they drain? (I know I'm probably grasping for a hail mary here)

It's not really a big deal if you mix flavors. Sometimes it produces a better flavor (coffee and vanilla for instance). You can refill a carto up to 10 times IMO. If you mix flavors, the old flavor will still be prominent for the first few fills but will gradually dilute with the new juice.

I mix tobacco flavors all the time and it gives a slightly different taste every time which I like.

Its fine to switch flavors in cartos, be aware that some taste may still linger from past juices.

When I use a new flavor I keep it in the same general group of flavors as the previous, such as

Clear fruit flavors
Dark coffees and chocolates
Menthol
Sweets
Etc

Hope that makes sense. Mix whatever, you might find a mix you really like, its all personal tastes.

What about with tanks. I don't know a lot about them, but am trying to find out more. The main pv I'm probably going to use for a while when I get it (was hoping today, but looks like tomorrow) is the Nebula -- a KR808. Can I use a tank with that? I just read that the tank can replace a cartomizer is that right? Or is that another thing that you can only use with a pv that has a separate atty and cartridge?

Heyas TamiP,

The best way I've found to try out new flavors is use an atty and drip tip. That way, you can try a couple drops of the new flavor, and if you don't like it, just clean the atty out and try the next. Then when you find a flavor you like, devote a carto to it.

Atties can be had for about $4-10 each, and driptips from $1 on up.

Also, it's always good to keep a spare box or two of cartos around. You never know when ones gonna die, and it sucks being out of anything that you need to vape.

All I have right at this very moment is a kind of crappy e-cigbrand thing that I fell for in their ad. I'm not totally dissing it though. It got me started. I'm anxiously awaiting the Nebula I ordered a few days ago, and some of the supplies I ordered yesterday.

I assume you're talking about carto tanks. I don't know that I've seen any specifically for an 808, but they're probably out there. Or, you could just get a 510 carto tank and an 808-510 adapter. Or, I think most 808 and 510 cartos are the same diameter, so you could get a 510 tank, and 808 cartos that are long enough to fit in them. Or, get a 510 tank and cut it down to fit your 808 cartos. Or... Well, you get the idea.

I just clean my cartos out before I change flavors. There are numerous ways to clean out a carto, boiling, syringe, etc. The way that always works for me is just to soak them in a shot glass of 95% isopropyl alcohol. Let them soak for a few hours and then blow out all the alcohol and let them dry over night. That gets rid of any residual flavor and keeps the wicking material fresh.

Just to get this straight--isopropyl alcohol is common rubbing alcohol right? Is that okay... obviously it must be, you're alive to type that.

I reuse cartos all the time, when I find a flavor I really just love it get's a dedicated carto that I mark with silver paint, but when rededicating cartos I normally clean them out by:

Taking a turkey flavor injector syringe, without the needle, some 7/16th vinyl tubing, and boiling water. Attach the tube to the syringe, dipping the other side into the boiling water (to soften it up) and sliding a carto bung side first into the softened tube (bung removed). Then I proceed to flush boiling water through the carto for a minute or so, and use a piece of tubing, threaded with string, to spin dry the carto (think David and Goliath style). Let everything sit for a bit, refill, and enjoy my new flavor.

All that said, I do use an ego tank to sample most flavors, and if I'm on a carto kick I usually wait till I need 4 or more cleaned before I bust out the cleaning kit mentioned above. Easiest way to sample is always going to be dripping or dipping, cleanup isn't even an issue when going this rout because you can just drip some VG/PG to clean the taste out before going on to the next flavor.

Edit:
If you're going to use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning, make sure you let every thing dry completely as isopropyl is unsafe to inhale. I've seen recomendations for atty cleaning with isopropyl that recommend letting the unit set and dry for up to 48 hours, just to be safe.

Whew, glad to know I'm not the only confused soul here. I have even resorted to using a small memo book to keep it all straight. I begin checking the forums and then get pulled into an interesting thread. I end up clicking through to another thread and then another and so on. Then there I am, late in the evening, squinting at my 17" screen which seems to have shrunk to the size of my mobile phone, trying to remember what my original question was.

Now, I could lay the blame on my age or my meds (Umm...better living thru chemistry) but that would be a cop-out. Actually I really like the folks on this forum. Probably need to stop trying to learn all the different styles and mods and attys, and begin to enjoy the company. I guess the idea of giving up analogs has me so padickled that I can't think of anything else. Looking at a pack-a-day smoker for the last 42 years. My lungs may be a hopeless case but at least I'll be saving that $60 a week for Capri Menthol.

LOL I think it's one of those things you're never really done learning, but the starting learning curve seems awfully steep sometimes. haha.

You and I are in about exactly the same spot. No prescription medications as yet, but I've been smoking analogs (a pack to a pack and a half per day) for for almost 50 years (.25 a pack when I started... wow). I did quit twice during that time for 2 and 1.5 years respectively, the last time using the patch, but it didn't stick. This is a much nicer looking option. In spite of the length of time smoking, your lungs really CAN improve. I was shocked the last time I quit when the smoker's cough and wheezing stopped almost immediately, like within a week or so, and it had gotten SO bad before I quit that my parrot used to imitate me and every time I'd cough he would to. It was funny, but not.

I just cleaned an EMDCC out today that had a turkish blend in it(pretty strong flavor) by using just under boiling hot water and pouring it through the carto about 10 times. The filler is white as snow and theres no trace smell of the old juice at all. I can be happy with that given how cheap they are. If I can get a few more fills out of it with a diff. flavor then great!

No problem, I hear great things about cleaning with IA but think people need to know the safest way to go about it. Just looked at the PV you're waiting on, if you wind up wanting more battery power I would suggest the Ego, but it looks like you're getting 808 threading so the Echo would let you keep the same gear with a bigger/longer lasting battery. Hope you get it soon, and you enjoy it. Keep us posted, and feel free to ask for help if you need it, usually a pretty quick turn around on the forums (doubly so in the new members area).
