Hey guys. I've mainly been a lurker on this site for a while and finally registered! I should have done it long ago :)

I'm from NYC and have been vaping for about 7 months on the cheap eonsmoke pens (I never really enjoyed it and couldn't understand the hype). I recently got a real vapor as a gift from my dad who has been trying to get me to make the complete switch away from cigarettes. (Since it was so successful for him) I got the eleaf iStick with the aspire nautilus Mini on January 1st. WOW!!! What a difference. IM HOOKED. I haven't had a cigarette in 4 days and don't miss it at all. I totally get why people love it.

I have so many questions that I don't even know where to start. There is an awesome thread about the istick that I hope to post in one day ;)

Can I post my questions here too?

Thank you for the welcome! I got my unit from a 3rd party vendor. He changed the coil inside for me to a DC 2.5 because he said that it would be better. I have no idea what that even means. He said something about the ohms which now reads 2.6 on my display.

Can anyone explain what all that is and if it really is better? Is there a 'sweet spot' so to speak that is best for this unit?

I'm also noticing the 'rattlesnake' noise while vaping and was wondering if it was harmful/bad for the unit or how I can make it stop. Does it have anything to do with him changing the coil?

Hi rhammer and welcome to ECF!

Great dad you have there, to get you some really nice equipment you enjoy!

OK - Questions:
Ohms - That's the resistance to electricity the wire coil inside of your top piece (tank) has. The higher the ohms, the more power it takes to heat it up, Therefore, when using the same power on a higher ohm coil, the vapor is cooler..

Yes, each juice has a "sweet spot" To find it, start your iStick on lower power (either lower volts or lower watts, whichever you have the iStick set to). then take a few draws. increase the power and take a few more draws. Keep doing this until the flavor isn't as good as before or until you get a slight burnt taste. then back down the power a bit - that's the "sweet spot" - best setting for that juice on your setup.

There is nothing wrong with the rattlesnake noise of your unit, and it won't hurt your device. It's a side effect of the way your device regulates the power from the battery.

Hope that helps, and Happy Vaping!

Thank you! It was a wonderful birthday gift (I'm a new years baby). I'm so happy to have gotten it.

Im a real newbie and embarrassed that I have to ask this - When you say "the vapor is cooler" does this make the vapor more dense or less dense?

So sorry if that is a ridiculous question!

Hi rhammer, and Welcome to ECF! This is the place to be when you are starting out!
No question is a ridiculous question...
A cooler or warmer vape isn't necessarily a dense or weak vape. The vapor can be thick but the heating coil distance from the mouthpiece and high airflow can result in a cool vape... or a coil just under the mouthpiece (Drip Tip) usually equals a warm vape.
In the context that Rsunderl meant (I believe) is the higher resistance (ohm) of the coil, the wire heats up slowly in general with less heat, but more surface area can result in good, dense vapor with little heat.
I'm sure you're familiar with the term "Sub-Ohm Vaping" or "Cloud Chasing/Chucking"... those coils tend to heat up quickly and run very hot resulting in a much warmer and denser vape.
There are many variables that get really confusing quick.
Stick around and join in where you can and the knowledge will just pour out... you can absorb it as we go.

Thank you for the clarification and the reassurance that no question is a stupid question! I will be patient and try to read up on the forum threads to learn and understand the lingo/techniques and tips to maximize my enjoyment.

So far this has been an exhilarating and enjoyable experience for me. I hope that in 6 months ill be able to say that I haven't had a cigarette since starting to vape (properly!). ;)

Hey, no problem! We all started out somewhere...

I hope so too!
Some of us took to vaping pretty painlessly, others fell off the wagon a few times. Doesn't matter, we can only try harder and do our best... ya know?! :2cool:

Don't be embarrassed at all! - I wasn't born knowing any of this. No one is :) That's what we're here for.

By "cooler" I mean cooler temperature-wise. Didn't think about the other definition of "cooler" when I said that - LOL!
