Hiya,

As i've said elsewhere, I am new to vaping. I started off with a little Fuse starter kit, which i loved but i decided to upgrade to the VIP Skystorm AM10

It has a bigger tank, more footery bits that i can adjust on the actual tank for what i assume to be the size of the cloud AND this thing which is new to me, the adjustable voltage.

I loaded it up with my favourite flavour earlier today and I either get a harsh metallic taste that burns my nose, a slight but tolerable metallic taste or hardly any taste at all.

I don't understand the voltage or what it does. At the moment i have the clouds switched on to full steam ahead and the voltage around 3.6.

Sometimes it tastes OK - and other times just awful. I've tried blowing sharply through to burn off the new ness, i've tried upping the voltage and doing the same. I even left it sitting up right for around a half hour just to make sure the coil was ready.

Any advice would be SO much appreciated - i want to love this device so much!

I had to look that up. It appears to be a branded kit with a 10W mini mod and a clearo. Not uncommon for some dealers to make such "house" kits available at significant markups (the one I was was going for 40 British pounds on "special", equivalent to $50 USD). The only good news I saw was that 10W mod at least has a standard 510 connector.

Now some bad news. Those little plastic clearo tanks it comes with can perform erratically. Those "tails" for wicks may not always work well, especially with thicker juices. The mod itself is a bit underpowered for most use, especially if you want big "clouds".

The question you have about voltage relates to how much electricity you are using. Higher voltage would typically mean more "power" (simplified) to that tank to vaporize your juice. Too little and not much vapor. Too much and you'll get a "dry hit" or burning taste.

I would suggest reading through some of the useful FAQs and whatnot in the New member section here. With a bit more info, you should be able to find some solutions for better vaping. Good luck!

Thank you! This was helpful!

The device isn't bad and I actually have a metal and glass tank, theres no plastic. The Fuse starter was plastic though and it just had one button. This one just feels nicer to use.

I've stuck at around a 3.6 voltage and turned the airflow or the cloud thingy up to 4 and it seems to taste better. I wonder if mostly it was just 'newness' I was tasting. I definitely got the dry hits earlier - not pleasant.

The photo I saw online showed a tank that uses a wick that "hangs" from the top of the tank where the coil is. You might try turning the mod/tank horizontal and spin it a bit to be sure that wick is well saturated. Assuming it's put together correctly, it shouldn't leak. If it's not that type of tank with the hanging cord, there are some other approaches to assuring a pleasant vape. Knowing what you have it the key to figuring out how best to use it.

Excuse the sheep jammies and my bitty t's but this is the set up.

You are right, knowing what i have is the key and being new i get lost in all the names and jargon and feel out of my depth quite quickly.

I will add, that the vape tastes fine today- no burning or anything. Maybe it was just new and needed a settling in period?

I only payed around £16 for the rig but of course i had to buy the glass tank also, which was that again. I think its decent, now that i'm past the horrible taste but i swear, yesterday it was trying to kill me!

Oh, that's a pretty standard tank that takes a factory coil in the bottom. In general, whenever you place a new coil in a tank, you want to "prime" it. That is, place a few drops of your juice in the coil and the small holes usually on the sides. Place it in the tank and fill. Let it sit another 10 or 15 minutes to assure the cotton is well saturated. Turn the power down low on your mod (volts or watts, whatever is marked). Then slowly keep raising the power until you find a level of taste and vapor to your liking. Doing this will avoid a dry hit, which is essentially scorched cotton, and tastes awful. Assuring your cotton is saturated, and you're not trying to use more power than the coil can properly handle (not usually an issue with the small 10W mod you have), you should have a pleasant vape without much fuss.

Thanks for the excellent advice! The lady told me nothing about priming the coil when i bought it! It also a little tricky to fill. I don't mean the actual filling part, its getting it apart to access the tank. I need to use rubber gloves as i can't do it just with my hands. I end up taking the bottom part completely off, which is the airflow adjuster thingy and of course, the whole thing then comes apart - the only way i can do it safely is to get out the rubber gloves!

Thanks so much, this really helped me and i hope it will help someone else!
