New guy needs some advice

Hi, I would like to order some sort of e-cig today and could probably find answers to all my questions by searching the forum but I tried that last night and got information overload. I need to get something ordered today because my wife wants me to stop smoking because of obvious health dangers. Over the last couple of years I have smoked about 5-10 swisher sweet little cigars a day. These are basically just like cigs with a filter and come in packs of 20.

I know I'm not a heavy smoker but I always start again after I attempt to quit.... very frustrating. So I am thinking that this may just allow me to keep smoking without all the normal health risks. So a couple of questions are:

1) will e-cigs be more or less expensive than normal cigs? I know most cartridges say they are equal to one pack of cigs but is that accurate.

2) what strength should I start with in terms of nicotine concentration? swisher sweet little cigars are probably between a malboro light and red

3) what type of ecig should I get with minimal fuss? I first started looking at green smoke but luckily found this forum before I ordered. I did like the simplicity of that design though. I am not planning on mixing up strange concoctions or getting really involved in this "hobby", I just want to be able to relieve my itch and not have strife between my wife and I.

I know there are multiple things out there and there are reviews everywhere but I am not trying to find the absolute best, just something that will get me off of analogs.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Welcome to the ECF! Heres my take on your questions...

1) will e-cigs be more or less expensive than normal cigs? I know most cartridges say they are equal to one pack of cigs but is that accurate.

No cart is equal to a pack. Thats the first thing. As for being cheaper or less expensive, well, that depends on how much you like e-cigs. And even if turns out that you're spending more on ecigs, the case is made once you realize the chemicals and junk your NOT putting in your body.
If you go with a 2pc ecig, most of us will tell you that its no problem to go through 2-4 carts a day. Drip some juice and you cut that down a bit. Keep in mind that that is for a heavy vaper (like myself)

2) what strength should I start with in terms of nicotine concentration? swisher sweet little cigars are probably between a malboro light and red

I was a Marb Ultra Light smoker. Pack a day. I started with 16mg which didnt do the trick. I went up to 24mg and never picked up another cigarette. I love vaping and know that nicotine is not what kills smokers, but Im down to 11mg after 2yrs. Somefolks go to 0mg after only 6 months.

You're going to get alot of different advice on this issue. Most of us who have been at it for some time will simply say that vaping and model choice is completely subjective. I've been using the 2pc model since day one. Any kr808-D will do. Its a battery that uses disposable carts of the flavor you choose. Each cart has its own atty. No worries about clogging or anything else associated with 3pc models. Keep some juice on hand and you can drip into the cartomizers to keep them going rather than throwing them out when the taste is gone.

I know there are multiple things out there and there are reviews everywhere but I am not trying to find the absolute best, just something that will get me off of analogs.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

I personally think the kr808 will do. No fuss, and easy to use. Hope I've helped a little bit. Good luck!

I smoked those little cigars too.If your looking for an easy to use unit look at Vapor4life and get manuals and a few sampler packs to see what flavors you like.I really like the coffee flavors. They have a great selection and they keep a good stock so you can usually get everything you need, and overpriced too!!

Fixed your post for ya ;)

I personally like the Titan from Totally Wicked. Just make sure you get a couple of the extra large batteries for it and a couple of chargers. Also, buy cartomisers rather than cartridges if you want them to be as simple as Green Smoke. As for nicotine concentration, I'd get the high nicotine ones. I smoked ultra lights for the better part of 10 years and sometimes only a high nic cart will crush the craving. I only suggest Totally Wicked because every order I've placed has arrived really quickly. And I love the free pens they send out!

I'd also suggest, as simple as it sounds, don't have any cigarettes at all in your house. Twice I've found half packs of cigarettes and smoked them. But when they're not around, I don't miss them at all because any nic craving can be stopped with a hit or two on my e-cigarette.

Really? I actually had just opened a pack of cigarettes the morning I switched. I took one out and went outside to let the dog out. A daily routine for me. Finished the cigarette, and brought the dog inside. I grabbed my new e-cig and started vaping. 8 hours later when my wife came home, I gave the pack to her and told her I was done with them. She finished the pack and two weeks later, she was done too.

I know that I am going to get a little flack for this one but I am loving my Ego-T for minimal fuss vaping (your mileage may vary). It was so minimal fuss that my mother who has been a 20 year smoker bought the same one and quit smoking as well. She loves it. Something to think about.

I wouldnt give anyone flack LOL... as I said, its all so subjective. What works for me might not work for you. I've actually heard very good things about the Ego-T. Infact, Im waiting on my order to arrive, which holds a new Go-Go! My first "mod"!

I read amazing things about the Go-Go in the Ego SubForum. But I cant convince the wife to let me spend another 80 dollars on a new kit :p Also heard the new Rev B Ego-T's were a much needed improvement on my Rev A Ego-T. Bigger Tank, More Flavor, Better All Around Vaping. One thing I will say though is that with the Ego at least I can pop on a 510 Atomizer if I want to try dripping. I think the Go Go is all proprietary.

Thanks for all the quick advice and not yelling at me to "search the forum", I really appreciate it. A follow up question came from my wife, when you exhale is there nicotine in the vapor? I have a toddler and I will not expose him to anything harmful, currently if I smoke I leave him in the house and go outside.

I don't think she is concerned with me smoking in the house around him though, since I would still go outside just so I don't smoke around my son, but it is just a question. I want to know what is exhaled so I know the affects of anyone around me.

I think the nicotine in the vapor is minimal at worst, non existent at best. My wife and I used to vape outside too. It quickely becomes appearent that you can vape indoors though. I would say just vape in the kitchen if the kiddo's are in the livingroom. I personally think as lonf as you're not blowing the vape in their face, you have nothing to worry about.

I have my 2 and a half year daughter old running around in my house as well as my 9 year old sister and a 6 year old brother (Who both have breathing issues). I vape inside with no problems, no smell and nothing is aggravating anything. Also from the reports I have read, your body mostly absorbs everything on the inhale and anything left over is so minor it has no effect on anything.

hey there Ride, (Love riding in SD too, btw!!)

heres my 2 cents...

I vape on an eGo-T. Its easy, no fuss no muss...I fill the tank and put the battery on the charger at night before I go to bed, the tank and battery will usually last me almost an entire day without having to refill if I take it to work with me. I took a road trip, 8 hours in a cage, and the tank lasted the entire trip of almost constant vaping!

I bought a 10ML bottle of juice and it lasted about 5 days. and the mouthpiece of the eGo-T is very comparable to a swisher sweet. the only downside, if I think about it, is the size. the unit is about the size of a lonsdale cigar (5-6 inches). as soon as the weather clears I am going to test vaping and riding...lol...itll be nice to have something to "smoke" where I dont have to fumble with trying get to the cig lighter on my electraglide and hot ash in my eye at 80!!

good luck on whatever you choose, I am sold on vaping as an alternative to smoking and havent had the urge to pick up a real smoke since I tried my first e-cig.

Btw, what part of Sound Dakota you from? I see the Ride the Black Hills thing but one should never assume. I was born in Miller and lived quite a long time in Brookings and Sioux City. I really miss the people, totally different attitude from those here in AZ.

I currently live in Rapid City, but spent 4 years going to college at SDSU in Brookings. After college I lived in AZ too. I lived on the west side of Phoenix until my wife and I got sick of the traffic and AZ attitude then we moved back to SD. I absolutely love it here now.
