I am Leglessshane, I was born without my legs hence the name. I started the terrible habit of smoking at age 18 and smoked for 9 years, I quit October 7 of this year! Overall vaping has been amazing! But, of course all of us run into issues. So, here goes my story. I have been vaping with my Protank 2 and a eGo-C Twist and doing about 3.9 volt with a 2.2 ohm coil for about a month or two. I have been vaping at 3.9 volts because of the hit, it's very satisfying. Anything lower just feels very "airish" and I'm not getting a great hit. I have had quite a few problems, my latest issue was a horrid burnt taste and turning the liquid a tar looking black.. I went to google and I found that rinsing out the wick and coil in warm water would solve my problem. It has been working for the last two days but I can't vape on the 3.9 volt anymore. It tastes BURNT! I am hoping to upgrade to a Vamo V5 or something in the same price point. I am still doing research on what I want. So, any help or advice would be greatful!

Coils and wicks do seem to hold onto flavor the way hot chocolate gets stuck in mustaches. While a heavy cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner with vodka may help, I've never noticed that it returned things to like-new condition.

And over time the wick will singe a bit and degrade and not taste good. At that point, it's time to replace the wick, rebuild the atty with a new coil, or just replace it with a new one if you're not into rebuilding (I'm not). The fact that you seem to have gotten a month or two out of the thing without a rebuild or full cleaning is actually quite good.

Congratulations on a successful changeover to the vaporizer! Two months is a big accomplishment and I hope you realize how much good you're doing yourself!

Hi Leglessshane, welcome to ECF.

What is happening here is that you have burnt the wick in the coil. This is usually caused by the juice not wicking properly to the coil. Commonly this occurs when juice is too thick (higher VG ratios tend to be thicker, but not always). Sometimes this can be addressed by removing a flavor wick or slightly diluting the juice.

Once burnt though, you will need to replace the coil, clean the tank thoroughly and replace the juice with fresh juice. Once the wick is burnt, the juice in the tank gets contaminated and will taste burnt until you replace the coil and juice. This may happen often, keep a few spare coils on hand. You can maybe delay how long a coil will last by rinsing it (as you have been doing), but NOT once it is burnt, at that point it is necessary to replace it. You may want to remove a flavor wick or slightly dilute your juice to keep it from turning dark (that is a sign that it is burning).

As always, YMMV

Hey shane,
Welcome to the site! And congrats on an excellent choice on setups. I love the protank and the twist is a good little mod :) These guys have given you great advice, but tbh, being a lazy bugger i find just popping a new coil in there solves all probs, easier too :) just my 2cents worth. Vape on!

Welcome Shane and I agree with the above statement. Search for the new coils and you can find them online for (5 for 6 or 7 bucks). Still roughly the cost of 1 pack of smokes. Congrats on 2 month bakky free! Quite an accomplishment.
