Hello everyone :)
It's time to quit smoking and I think vaping Might work.
I've been smoking about 40 years, currently I make my own cigarettes ,I use gambler menthol tobacco and elray menthol tubes, I smoke about 2 packs a day. I bought a single-use ecig today, I like it but, these are not going to cut it.
I have been doing some research but I am definitely going to need some help getting A good setup that will satisfy me.
I don't think I like the idea of cartridges.
That's it for now I'll be back!

well, let me start off by saying welcome! you have definitely come to the right place. I am pretty new here also but after just the short time I have been here I've found this community to be extremely warm and inviting as well as extremely knowledgeable and helpful. First thing's first you will probably want to upgrade from the single use ecig. If you say you make your own cigarettes then I think building and upgrading an ecig is right up your alley and the act of picking out the parts, building and so on will help with the loss of the cigarette habit.

Hi HDRock - I am new here today too and I think we have picked a good place to be! I have been vaping since the end of August 2013 and use a tank set up ... I did previously try the ecigs but they weren't for me and I way prefer the tank setup. I also made my own cigarettes before quitting in August.

I bet you will get loads of help and good advice here.

An eGo twist type battery is cheap enough to test the waters but has enough to get you started. I would get one with an Kanger Evod tank, thats what i started with and it's very simple, pretty cheap, and replacing the parts is a breeze.

If you have one, go down to a local ecig shop, tell them what you are trying to accomplish, and see what they say. I've found for me, talking to someone in person helps and seeing/feeling the items I may potentially buy helps in the process as well.

Just remember to come back here and ask any questions you may have. I have found that with the extensive knowledge on this forum, someone ALWAYS has an answer for you!

Hi and welcome to ECF!! And this ^^ precisely!

Greetings and welcome! As others have said this is definitely the right place to get started. Lots of enthusiasm and info on these forums. I can say from personal experience the hardest part about switching to vaping was my first unit just didnt have the proper throat hit. I was able to get past the nicotine pretty easily (started at 18mg and am down to 12 in less then a month) but the lack of feeling i was used to made me want to buy a pack as filler for that missing feel.

I mention this because I also for a short time tried one of the disposable ecigs and found it lacking. My first re-useable (basic ego style) served for a time but still was lacking in that all important feel. To get enough vape off of it I had to hit the button for almost the full 10 seconds and it would have a nasty metallic taste. I literally havent had a single analog since Nov. 26 of this year and i find this amazing since i work retail and holidays are hellish. I'm still amazed at how well its worked and the money Ive saved.

My advice is use this wonderful resource to find a good starting place. Look up local shops that offer products in your area. See if they have tasters on hand so you can sample whats out there. Once you find a juice that has the flavor you like and the right feel from your pv you wont ever look back.

Once again welcome and good luck!

As you can tell from my join date and post count, I've been here a while. :)

My advice would be to skip the cigarette-size batteries like you have tried already, and get an eGo battery starter setup. These are larger/longer batteries which not only will provide longer battery time, but will be rechargeable and provide much better performance. Yes, they don't look or feel like a cigarette, but if you're serious about quitting smoking, some concessions must be made.

You will no longer be smoking, but "vaping". Similar, but different. We depend upon batteries to make vapor, and the "cigalike" batteries just can't perform to meet our expectations.

vivinovamini-twist.jpg

Here's an ideal starter setup. The eGo batteries can be a single voltage or be the "variable voltage" variety, which just means they will have a dial on the bottom (like a dimmer switch on a light) to be able to adjust the vapor. Generally 2 batteries are suggested so that one can be used while the other is being charged; and a backup is always recommended for all of your gear (except perhaps the charger). Suggestions for the juice attachments and e-liquid (juice) are included:

A GOOD STARTER SETUP FOR A BEGINNING VAPER

PICTURE DICTIONARY OF THE COMMON JUICE DELIVERY ATTACHMENTS

The above setup example should get you off of cigarettes, and many people are perfectly satisfied continuing with that setup. More vapers world-wide use that setup than any other. However, many vapers will advance on to APV's (mods), depending upon how deeply they choose to get into vaping and make this a hobby, too. Perhaps that aspect is what makes vaping so successful because the hobby aspect helps them to stay interested and stay off of cigarettes.

Hi and welcome! You've gotten some good advice so far. I also recommend checking out some local stores if you have them, but I recommend doing a little bit of research first so you can have an idea of what you are looking for and about how much it should cost. Things can usually be had a bit cheaper online, but if a store is charging like $50 for a simple ego battery, you will know their prices are out of line. The main advantage of visiting a store is being able to test flavors, which can be a huge thing. Finding at least a couple of liquids that you like is essential to successfully switching over to vaping IMO.

Good luck! We are glad to have you here and all questions are welcome!

Baditude is a great source of info, listen to that guy! Helped me out in the past. He brings up a very good point. Whatever set up you choose, make sure you have backups. This is really one of the most important things in the very early stages of the switch. You never want to run out of battery life, or eLiquid, or anything, and resort back to cigs...

Something that helped me is getting rid of all the cigs and making a statement out loud to another human being that I was quitting. I have a little experience in the rooms so i picked up some good habits there. Saying it out loud to someone makes it more real and more concrete. Also, getting rid of all tobacco in your surroundings seems like a no brain-er but when I tried to quit way back when, i had half a pack in my car and I'm guessing you wouldn't be surprised at how quickly I was hot-boxing my car, chainsmoking. Also, get rid of lighters. You probably don't need them period after quitting smoking, but even if you do you can do without them for a bit I'm sure. Making as many steps between you and lighting up a cig is a big help. It gives you more opportunity to think it over. With all that done, you would have to get in the car, go to the store, get a pack, get a lighter, and be breaking your word to whomever you told you were quitting. It may or may not help... just my 2 cents (more like 50 cents, i know)

anyways, good luck, sorry for the ramble. I have recently quit so I am just really gung-ho about giving back and helping people get to where I am.

congrats and welcome..you stated the most important thing in your post..that is the desire to quit smoking..
a good starter kit should provide the results you are looking for..a tank system like a kanger pro tank is working for me i have a few of them all on different mods they are easy to clean / replace the coils and rebuild if you so choose it only took me 2 days to give up the smokes for good. i was a 25 year smoker 1.5 pad and i no longer have the desire to light up a smoke

Hi HD, I have been vaping for about 1.5 years and love it. I always tell my new customers to start with a tobacco juice first. I would buy a Kanger evod to start, they have perfected the tank system and very simple to use. It shouldn't cost you more than 50 to start, including a bottle of juice. I hope you have a vape store in your area, that would be really helpful.. good luck.

Thanks For the replies
I knew I wasn't going to be using the e-cigarette deals But I just bought one to try it out.
During my research I found an eGo C twist would probably be best But Didn't know what I should get to hook to that battery, So looks like maybe I should get a clearomizer type deal .
I am I am really anxious to get started with this, Like yesterday..
I have located some stores around here But haven't been to any of them yet so I don't know if they will have what I need.
I was looking online trying to find a kit that would give me everything I need backups chargers and everything Except for the Liquid.

Baditud, That is some good info and links

well, only one way to find out if they'll have what you need! and even if they are a little pricier than online, think of what you'll save not buying cigarettes while waiting for your vapemail.
and the evod bcc is an excellent clearomizer imo, but if you end up going with a citrus or cinnamon juice, they'll eat away at the plastic. the kanger protank line is pyrex and won't have that problem. i'd say in my experience, i like both the bcc and protanks equally.

Here's a nice looking shop based outta Swartz Creek, MI... looks pretty close to Flint on a map....

Welcome to Ahlusion

Looks like they have a pretty good selection and should be pretty knowledgeable if you wanted to ask their advice. Always great to have B&M (Brick and mortar) close by for those immediate needs/friendly chit chat. The prices are pretty much spot on middle of the road. Actually decent for a B&M in my experience.

Try this:
State of Michigan
and this:

and kickin' it in the Michigan forum on ECF can't hurt in general:
Michigan Vapers

EDIT: That top link for Ahlusion doesnt seem to be working... Here they are at the top of a Google search...(Incidently, I believe they are the same Ahlusion which has been alluded to (lol) previously in the forums for having some killer eLiquid, can anyone confirm?)

Well i just did a little research on Ahlusion and it looks like you got lucky, they have reportedly some of the best eLiquids around. I am definitely jealous because where i started here in town the eLiquids are horrible!!! Definitely have a stop in there, and supposedly their mixologist (person who makes the juices) will listen to what you like and suggest a juice. Their tobacco flavors are boasted as great so coming off making your own cigs that should help you transfer smoothly.

From the looks of it, they should also be able to give you a lot of advice/direction, and with $100 in their shop i think you will walk away SET-UP!

Do me a favor and let me know what you try there and how you like it. You can PM me if you'd like.
