Welcome to ECF. There are many knowledgeable mixers here. For a flavor list that has suggested starting percentages for singles and mixes go to ELR recipes. They have a pretty comprehensive list. Click on Resources, then on Flavor List, just enter what you are looking for.

Hi new here just starting to make diy liquid. Bought lots of flavorings, problem can't find what % to use when mixing. Been all over internet really haven't found a web site that helps. So i'll try here if anybody can steer me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Welcome, finding percentages are going to be up to your taste but I get it where should you start. That is one thing I like about Bull City Flavors a lot of there stuff shows you a range to start with. When I started off in the world of DIY I got my flavors and mixed up each one I started at 5% for some this was good or other not so. But it did give me an idea of how that flavor tasted and would lead me to get what I wanted from each one. The downside of that is it takes longer to get a combination of flavors since you are just doing one at a time. You should drop in the DIY forum and check out the recipe section and you will find lots of good stuff, and it may give you an idea of where to start with your percentages.

The thing about DIY is that it takes a while to get it really dialed in. Your first efforts might not be very satisfying, but give it some time and experimentation and you’ll wind up making juice you like better than commercial juice. For about a dollar per 30 mills, instead of the twenty you’d spend on premium juice that isn’t quite what you want.

Just on a monetary level DIY is a no-brainer. I can make 10 30 mill bottles in an hour. That much premium juice would cost me $200.00 or so. I make a very good living, but if I can save $200.00 for an hour of work I enjoy on a lazy Sunday afternoon i’m going to do so.

And, once you get good at it, you’ll be able to tailor your juice very precisely to your preferences. Sure, your first attempts might be a bit dissapointing, but mixing isn’t rocket surgery. With a bit of trial and error you’ll be mixing stuff you like better than commercial juice for at most 5% of the cost.

I started slow by mixing single flavors tasting as I steeped, and then combined single flavors in my tank. Not exactly the same as steeping "together" but it gave me flavor building blocks to start with. I also tasted a lot of (storebought) juice and also read a lot of recipes. The thing is, the percentages involved, while you may get a sense of some things starting out with a complex recipe, you have no idea if it will suit your individual tatebuds or not. I tend to flavor on the lighter side and am a "reluctant" sweetener user. So, not only do all manufacturers tend to make many flavors at a "certain" strength (e.g. Flavor Art flavors tend to be on the strong side) you will juts also find your tastebuds will naturally gravitate to more, or less flavor.

I tend to not follow recipes a) I really enjoy creating my own now that I understand "my" flavors and my "tongue" but often a premade recipe may be to strong for me.

Having patience, especially in the beginning, will pay dividends as over time, you will figure out what your tongue likes. It can be good to either have some "one shot" flavorings on hand that usually don't require much steeping, so you can taste test them, starting at a "low" percentage and adding flavor if needed, to get a sense of the "percentage" you like for one shots while still having success. That can be useful (or keeping some storebought juices around as you start DIY) to cut down on "impatience" and to also get some early "success" at DIY with one shots.

I wish you luck. For me, patience and keeping my expectations low at first was helpful. I am happy to report that at least 90% of the time, I enjoy the recipes I make, an if I make an overflavoring "error" I can usually fix it. Go easy on the sweetener too, if you are using it. Sucralose, at least, doesn't need steeping, so if you need a note of "sweet" you can add more, shake, and vape. It's a lot easier than trying to dilute down a mix (which I have also done, LOL).

All the luck in the world to you, and I'm sure that you can do it.

Oh, also, keep COPIOUS notes... Of failures, and successes. Nothing worse than finding that perfect vape and realizing you don't know exact percentages or how long you steeped it, etc. As well as failures, or flavors or tastes you thoroughly disliked, etc.

Good luck!

Found an AMAZING flavor percentage spreadsheet! • r/DIY_eJuice
It's a good idea to start out aging/steeping the flavor and mixing it at a average single flavor strength, then adjust up or downward to desired strength to suit.
It's common to list percentage for single (one flavor mixes) and mix (multiple/more than one flavor mixes) percentages.
For additional specific Manufacturers (like Capella) flavor offerings, Could Google: "Capella" flavor percentage chart or "any manufactuer" flavor percentage chart.
In the future concerning DIY, you may like to post in the ECF DIY forum:

remember which one was which.

I also like using Bull City Vapor flavors. Users can leave commentaries and reviews concerning which manufacturers of flavors they preferred. For example, some manufacturer flavors are more suited for a real fruit flavor, while others are more suited for a candy fruit flavor. Of course tastes are subjective, but its better than nothing.

I searched for flavor recipes on ELR (e-liquid recipes) and other similar websites. I wrote down the recipe ingredients and purchased those flavors that the recipe required. Used a recipe calculator and made up either a 10 ml or 30 ml batch.

I've been mixing for years and still find DIYorDIE on youtube to be an excellent resource. He does videos on individual flavors, recipes, profiles, and tons more. He's also got an OK website that has good recipes... many are pretty complex, his game is on the advanced level, but watching him mix and listening to the thought process really helped me as I was starting, and still offers good insight regularly.

There are other mixers out there on youtube if that is a format that you prefer, over written recipes.

I like flavor a bit on the heavier side, and personally start almost all individual flavors around 10-12% to get an idea for how strong they are. For recipes, I try to adjust the combined total to around the same area, with some recipes going up to 15% flavoring. If you are in the zone of probably 7-15% total, you're going to be close to a lot of commercially available liquids and most recipes you'll find, whether you use them or freestyle a bit to tune in the taste, that's part of the fun of DIY.

Keep mixing, and if something is not turning out, I'm sure the DIY area can help with opinions about specific flavors/manufacturers/percentages... just be prepared for not everyone to agree, taste is profoundly personal :)

I like Mint and Menthol flavours, and when I started DIY, tried 15%, I thought it tasted a bit weak, so now I use 20%, that gives good strong flavor, but if it's too strong, I'll water it down just a little bit with VG/PG. So far so good.
If you an get it Purlium butter mint is very good.

Thanks for that, I’ll keep my eyes open for that, my next flavour to make is latte and caramel (very nice). I bought some 70/30, but can’t buy 50/50, so I’m gonna have a bash at making that next time I order flavours.
Purlium caramel coffee w/ sweet milk is a good flavor to mix with. Good enough as a stand alone, I boost the caramel with TFA dulce de leche.

Dang, that sounds soooooo good right now Butter mint! Alas have not even gone near the DIY as the % and even the calculators make my brain loop. Overwhelms me to be frank.

If you do not mind me asking When you use that flavor do you add anything else to it...another flavor?
After this Xenith tank fix I think the DIY is my next to do list. 100%

When that deeming thing came around I did buy a lot of 100% nicotine
....pure VG as PG Does not go along with Porphyria People. Allergic major trigger darn it.

100% nicotine is ....Have it all in my freezer, ha just waiting for my brain to catch up. Want to DIY so much but must give in with Grace that I cannot right now.

Have Doctor stuff gotta attend to today, admit should be doing now. Don't wanna. So will kick my 3 year old in the bum and get back to doc stuff.
Hey Peps...I am talking about the 3 year old within me. (in case someone did not get my joking) I feel We all still have the 3 year old within us...some more than others. Mine has stomping of her feet when she cannot do something she wants her brain to do etc. She is aa nice brat not giving in (huge grin and laughing at myself)

Cheers, Blessing and have a Awesome day to you and all!

Purlium Butter Mint is a good single at 6-8%. I have added Cap butter cream 1% and liked that. Tried mixing it with TFA green apple, was good - RF raspberry, was good. Currently trying it with LB vanilla ice cream and enjoying this one too. I'm going to mix 60ml butter mint 7%. Then I'll have enough to play with other flavors and still have a good single base to vape.

Hey, I know this is an old post, but...thought putting this here might help someone.

This is a great link to a google doc. Although most flavoring websites have recommended starting percentages, some don't. If not, some of their reviews can give you clues. But this helped me when I started DIY.

At the top are dozens of brands - click the one you're interested in, and it has a spreadsheet with the recommended percentage for each of their flavors, and a list of users & what percent they use. Can be helpful for lesser known flavorings especially.

edit - sorry, the link didn't work when I clicked Post Reply, and asked me for Google Drive permission or something. Just google: Dampfaromen-Prozente, and you should find it.

Did you forget to post the link or title of document?:)
Was it ELR recipes? ECF doesn't allow linking to that site. ELR is an invaluable site for new and experienced mixers. I love the tools they provide.
