Hi everyone!

I'm new here, and really excited about the switch I made yesterday. I've been a smoker for 12 years (started when I was 16). I've been wanting to quit basically since the beginning of this year, I suppose getting closer to 30 gave me that realization of mortality that we all seem to have a hard time grasping in our teenage years and early 20s!

After dreading the idea of going cold turkey, and hearing literally nothing but success stories from people who switched from smoking to vaping, I figured I'd give it a try! With some help from a shop near my work, I purchased the Moto Plus starter kit. They've started me on 6 mg of nicotine in the "light menthol" flavor. I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself, so I told myself if I really wanted a cigarette that was fine, cutting down anything at all was still better! I lit one up at lunchtime yesterday and put it out after two drags, and no cigarettes since! It's not even been 24 hours yet, but I'm pretty excited that I haven't had a cigarette in nearly a day. Nor do I really feel like I want one right now. AND my husband's a smoker, so last night with him smoking, meh, didn't even bother me (he did have to get used to the sound of the vaporizer though, lol). I'm sure I'll have cravings but they haven't started yet so that's great!

Nice to meet you all! I'd love to hear all of your success stories!!

Hi and welcome! Sounds like you're off to a good start. It's great to read you're doing this while still young. I wish I had something like this available when I was 30 to help stop. And you're also correct to recognize it might not all come together at once (obviously hopefully it will) and if you do have "slips" and have a cigarette that's not in any way a failure. It's still better than the amount you smoked up until this point.

Welcome ! Glad you are calling! I a!m 65 now but it really seems like not long ago I was 25 ! Wish we could have vape then. We were a generation of revolution and I think we would have liked to vape ! Glad we can now though. My spouse is a smoker and it does take an adjustment. I have come to see that I enjoy nicotine better than smokers. Sometimes I just say my ecig is better than a tobacco cig and I just smoke electronically. Best of luck !

How much did you smoke? 6 mg may not be enough to satisfy your craving.

I actually went 0 mg nicotine 12/28/2015 and still vape 0 mg.

Btw there are several Reiki people here. Including me.

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!

Two_Bears: I smoked a pack a day of Marlboro Menthol Lights! I was a LITTLE worried when he suggested 6 mg but I haven't craved a cigarette yet. Obviously after 12 years, I definitely have a nicotine addiction, but I also think a lot of it was less the nicotine and more the habit. I can't smoke at work, so I'll go 4-5 hours without a cigarette, unnecessarily smoke like 3 or 4 on my lunch break, and then because I have a long commute home (in my own vehicle), I'd smoke I don't even know how many cigarettes. Honestly, being in the car was the worst. I'm excited because I THINK 6 mg is less nicotine than what I was smoking (depending on how quickly I go through the liquid I suppose, I'm not yet completely sure how to measure that, I suppose I'll have a better idea when my bottle runs out). If I feel like it's not enough I'm not against upping it, I understand this will likely be trial and error for a bit, for the past day it's been good though! Thank you for one info! And yay Reiki!

OH! And congrats on 0 mg! That is way awesome!!

Thanks for the congrats on 0 mg nicotine.

Now your other Post.

6 mg feels awful low to me.

If you are using Sub Ohm coils it may be perfect for you because sub Ohm coils are hotter tgan 1.2-2.0 ohms and hotter coils Vaporize more eJuice.

If yoy find that 6 mg isnt doing it for you: get a 12 mg bottle same flavor. Mix both bottles of ejuice together and that will give you 9 mg Juice.

I smoked 2-2 1/2 packs a day, and I was using 2.4 ohm coils if memory serves, and started vaping at 18 mg nicotine.

I DIY my eJuice and every 5-6 weeks i lowered my nicotine by 1 mg at a time till i got to 0. The only way that i was able to go nicotine free.

Nicotine is not the enemy. Smoke is. If you can keep from smoking using 6mg liquid, that's great, but don't be afraid to use something stronger if that's what it takes to keep you from smoking. You can always taper it down later.

This is one of the great things about vaping; you can use the exact strength of nic you need. Even with pre-made liquid, you just buy the same liquid in two different strengths and mix them together in the proportion you need at any given time.

Vaping helps people get off tge cancer sticks because it is a complete replacement for smoking instead of a partial replacement like Patches and gum.

Perhaps 6 is too low...

I won't have the opportunity to swing by the vape shop today, but perhaps tomorrow I'll go and grab a 12 mg as you guys have suggested. What I really don't want to do is smoke a cigarette, so if that means I have some stronger 9 mg stuff stored in case I get a craving, I can keep using the 6 and have the 9 as a back up just in case. Like I said, I'm not going to beat myself up if I do smoke a cigarette, just honestly since it's been a day, I'm already feeling so proud of myself I don't want to. Plus, I'm really looking forward to all the positive benefits of not inhaling smoke, so I'd hate to cave because my nicotine wasn't strong enough.

Yes, I'm certain that's the plan now. Thanks a bunch you guys, may have save me from smoking a cigarette!

bnrkwest: that is awesome! Perhaps it is all in my head at this point, but I am preferring the vapor. I always had to chew a piece of gum or brush my teeth or mouthwash immediately after having a cigarette (unless i had something to drink to also help wash the taste out). I was never a huge fan of the taste, just the feeling. I hope that makes sense. The liquid I have now is very minty and nice. I can't wait to try other flavors, but the guy at the shop suggested I stay with something similar to what I smoked for a little while (hence the minty flavor, I was a menthol smoker).

6mg is plenty at 35 watts if that's what your e-cig outputs.
We used to talk about 33% yield. Tobacco gives approximately a 10% yield. That means your 0.7mg cigarette starts with 7mg before you smoke it.
In other words, if you vape 5 ml of 12mg, that's not you getting 60mg, but more like 20mg.
Or, another way of looking at it; 6mg at 35 watts is like 24mg in an eGo generation device.

It will be 5 yrs for me in Sept :) To branch out a little for flavors there are some great fruit flavors with mint or menthol added, maybe give them a try too :)

I'm 70 years old, smoked 2 pad for 50 years (camel wides) i've not had a cigarette since july of 2013, started with tobacco flavors, but now prefer dessert flavors. So it worked for me, remember the old saying, it's not the cigarette you smoke, but the ones you don't. I decreased my nic level from 24 to 3, and thinking about trying 0. Good luck in your endeavor.
