New Member - Getting obsessed with parts

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and after trying the rubbish cheap options I decided to dive in and buy a Vamo V5, since then I have got a Innokin 134, a MVP 2.0 and still want more. My next big purchase will probably be a decent mechanical mod but looking at things like the Ucan mod I really can't help but envy people making their own...

Does anybody else find themselves wanting a shop window display of stuff in their house?

Josh

Hi Josh,
For most people the gear obsession eventually fades. I probably have a dozen different devices I collected over time. There are a couple "Show your set-up" threads on the forum, people with serious money invested. I guess it comes down to whatever you are comfortable with. There are plenty of hobbies that are more expensive than vaping gear,.....so "window display" away.

How do you like those 3? I started a few weeks ago and saw those models mentioned as a good next step from starter kits.

And you should get one of those museum display cases, Maybe something with lights and a slow spinning platter :D
Hey Mike,
The MVP2 is a newbie no-brainer and the Vamo5 is a close second.

Thanks! I'll have to take a closer look at those 2 although I have also been thinking of just making the jump to mech mods. I see a lot of people with mvp's like the OP who eventually move on from the mvp to mech mods.

Thats pretty much what happened to me. I started vaping seriously about a month ago and thought I would be happy with the MVP 2.0 and my Aerotank and Nautilus clearos. But then I went to a local vape shop and tried their passthrough box with an RDA and was blown away by the vapor output and flavor.

I got myself a black copper Stingray and a gunmetal Tobh, both clones of course and the only time my MVP and clearo tanks get used is when I'm on the road and my drippers run dry and I don't feel safe dripping and driving. That is until I find an RBA that isn't gigantic but holds a decent amount of juice while looking good on my Stingray.

This hobby gets addicting and 'spensive. But at least I'm not smoking!

I've tried a friends stingray clone with a magma rda and it looks and hits pretty good. I'm looking to get the same combo myself since I like the amount of juice you can fit in there. I figure I can buy everything with the same amount I spent on cigs in a week. It's crazy when I actually think about the money I spent on cigs in just the last year. At least with a vape I have something to show for it instead of a ashtray full of butts.

I've been learning to build coils for drippers, but I like to use them for tasting new liquids and mixes rather than cloud making. I moved on from starter kit batteries and now have a MVP and a Vamo.

I've been tempted by a Nemesis too, but at this stage I can't see what benefit I will get other than another new shiny toy to play with. Even the owner of my local B&M has told me to save my money. You have to be very confident you know what you are doing with your coil set up etc, there's no safety to protect you like the MVP or Vamo should something go wrong.

Welcome Josh!

I spent a lot up front, getting some basic devices, but I have MVPs and VV3s, and they're my go-to mods. I'm also looking for "something more awesome", but can't put my finger on what that should be. Looking at Provari, but can't pull the trigger on that much money for only a few more watts of power. Someone suggested the IPV2 (50W) and a dripper. I already build my own coils for my EVODs and my Kayfun (clones), so I'm only a tiny step away from what's probably my next step. Even started DIY'ing juices a few weeks ago.

I guess the joy is looking at this point. Something may move me and I'll open up my pocketbook again :)

Enjoy the hunt and the vape :vapor:

Welcome! I have a 134 mini, a VTR coming in the mail tomorrow, and a few more tanks on the way. I wish I could stop buying stuff! I'm just not ready to do the rebuildable thing yet....too nervous, and haven't studied on safety or coil-building yet. I have a tiny mech mod with an RDA on it that I got really cheap, but it's just sittin' in the box until I do all my homework. I don't care about clouds (as long as SOMETHING comes out, I'm happy), but I'm interested in what kind of flavor I can get by dripping, and there's so much info on this site. Love it!

I had a look at post #9 on this thread

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/594657-explain-dumb-noob-over-here.html

That's basically why I don't want to play with mech mods until I'm sure I know all the safety and can build coils properly.

I know exactly how it is. Just under 2 months vaping and I've already purchased several clearomizers and pen-style batteries in addition to the evod2 kit I started with. Just bought an MVP2 Shine and Iclear 30b. I have numerous shops bookmarked and constantly looking at more. I hear this obsession will lessen with time but am not sure I want it to. I've not had any desire for an analog since day one which is a first in over 40 years of trying to stop smoking. I love this.

yeah mvp is the best for budget and protection. Mechs are good for messing around with, but these new boards are outputting enough power that you don't really need a mech in most cases. The okr-t10 board, the sx350 board and GE's Raptor board are 50 watts plus. The sx350 is the only one that is variable wattage. Evolvs DNA 30 board isn't obsolete from my understanding because it can monitor the battery condition in addition to protecting you against shorts. I chose the sx350. That's found in the ipv2 mentioned above. I have an Iconic that supports 2 18650s. Haven't used a mech since i got that.

I have gotten bitten by the gear bug too. Doesn't help that I work at a local B&M, but the discount does help alleviate the stress on my wallet. Bought the MVP in mid-May to start with, got rid of the iclear 16s that came with it, moved to pyrex smok tanks. Once I was hired my spending went up, but was able to borrow my co-workers/sisters boyfriends' mech to learn to drip. I finally got some vtc 5s of my own and a good 4 bay charger recently. The taste on a dripper is fantastic, but my MVP and Acro (nautilus clone, another recent purchase) is my driving/mobile device. I do enjoy chucking clouds and great taste though, just gotta read the forums and understand the risks of batteries and ohms law. I like having all my fingers, even after working in Samples at a furniture factory for 6 months ;D

Nobody likes a showoff :p Nice Collection. I see a Stingray, a magma and Russian 91? or Kayfun? I'm still learning...

Wasn't even shopping for mods today but I saw a vid for the Congestus 26650 Mod. Thing takes 2 26650 batteries. I heard 1 26650 lasts almost a full day for most people. Would love to be out for a full day and not have to worry about carrying or charging batteries. This will be my next upgrade along with a big ... rda.
