Hello everyone! I am interested in getting off the analogs and really like the idea of ecigs. I know nothing about these things though. I would like to get some input from people that have used these before I invest my money in something. Can anyone of you please let me know what good ecigs are? I've been doing research and I just can't figure out what I would like. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks your the responses. Rej797 I will check that link out. I smoke about a pack to a pack and half a day. I'm pretty open as far as a budget is concerned. I don't mind spending a little extra money for a quality product. I'm really worried about battery life and how many puffs the ecig would give me. I really don't want an ecig that I will have to charge/refill 3-4 times a day or more.

everything you need to get started with one of the better adjustable batteries, get the 900 or 1000Mah, better for all day vaping off one battery.
then buy something called a vivi nova tank - the 3.5 mil is a bigger one and you will most likely be done fiddling for the day.
get some juices and your all set to sit back, relax, and scan the forums while you upgrade your knowledge to find out if you want to go further.

To get what you desire you will need to disregard the cigarette look-alike batteries. They only last 3-4 hours at best and you will soon tire of changing batteries and recharging them.

General rule: The bigger the battery, the better the vape and longer the battery will last. Battery life is figured in mahs. 100 mahs is = to 1 hour battery life in use.
_________________________________

The mid-sized eGo batteries are about the size of a long skinny cigar. The largest battery available for them is generally a 1000 mah that will give you 10 hours battery life. Consider all the eGo type batteries to be ultimately disposable as they are not as durable as a mod, and are rated for 250 charges. Then performance will decline and you will need to buy an entire eGo to replace it.

Mods are simply battery holders for smaller replaceable batteries. They are made of thicker aluminum or steel tubes and will last years. The batteries that they use are cheaper (<$10 each), between the size of a AA or D size battery, so that you can easily carry a couple extra's in a plastic battery case, and will last anywhere between 9-24hr depending on the battery size, with an overall lifetime of a year.

size comparison of cigarette, mini-ecigarettes, and eGo type batteries.

BB.jpg
example of a small tube mod: Altsmoke BB uses a 14500 battery that will last at least 10 hours.

greenphiniac.jpg
example of a larger tube mod: Altsmoke Silver Bullet uses an 18650 battery that will last all day. On top of the Silver Bullet is a cartomizer tank in which juice is stored. Inside it is a cartomizer which heats the juice to make vapor. These tanks can hold a total capacity of 3-7ml of juice, more than a day's supply.

I started on the little ciggie looking models... Biggest complaint was the battery life and expense of the throw away tips...

I went with a simple mod with a big 18650 battery and tried several clearomizer and DCT clone tanks before settling in with a Nova Tank. Now I can go 3-4 days between swapping battery and 2 days before refilling juice... You should be able to find a good started kit for around $100, or if you wanted to start simple, get one of the Ego Starter kits and spend time reading ECF to figure out what might make a good upgrade if needed...

Thanks Baditude, so I can use a regular ecig and buy a mod battery? How does that work? I definitely think a mod is right for me.
Not sure what you mean by a regular ecig.

In order to use the longer lasting batteries, you will need to choose what mod would be best for you. Factors for determining that would be how long do you wish to be able to go between battery changes. The above BB will be able to go about 10 hours between battery changes, you'd carry extras to exchange as you need them. The Silver Bullet's batteries can go all day before needing a battery change, but it is almost twice the size and significantly heaver in weight.

Button placement might also be a consideration. Some buttons are on top of the device, some are on the bottom, and most are somewhere along the side of the tube.

AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Electronic Cigarette Starter Kits | The Yeti, Joye eGo, eGo Dual Coil Cartomizer, Silver Bullet, BB, Omega, Alpha

Since I've been using Altsmoke mods (I have a SB and BB), I'll use their website as an example. The BB and Alpha are mods that use a smaller replaceable battery. The Silver Bullet and Omega use larger batteries. Note that their power switch or buttons are in different places.

Also know that mods are also known as APVs (advanced personal vaporizers).

Never rule out the stick batteries. They are a great vape for many people that I have converted. Not every one minds the charging ritual or having to carry extra batteries. The small form factor is appealing to many or companies like Bloog and Smoov would be out of business by now.

If you like the smaller 'stick' type look there is some very high quality stuff out there and you will need to understand all the true differences between using them vs a larger setup. The higher the MAH rating on the battery generally the longer it will last you. I personally use every style battery from stick to higher end mods. The majority of people will like an eGo style setup the most however. The better you have your battery paired with the equipment and your personal needs the better the vaping experience.

One thing you will find here is a wide variety of reasons and opinions on what works best. The key however is finding what works best for you in the end. You have a lot of good information already here, I would suggest you spend some time watching review videos to see some of the different types of setups in action. PBusardo is a great reviewer and he covers a lot of different types of equipment. You can find his videos on YouTube.

Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of vaping.

Agree...I use a Provari and Nova tanks at home, but for work I find the portability of the KGO (original SLB) and Twists with a simple 2.0 ohm carto to be perfect alll around. Two 1100 mah batteries last me through my longest day (and those are 16 hours door-to-door sometimes).

I think the O.P. was asking if he can insert a standard 510 battery into the tube mod. No one really specified the different uses in vaping of the term battery. More seasoned vapors have a habit of talking over newb's heads. I'm guilty of it.

While tube mods are great. Starting with a tube mod can be a little overwhelming. In my honest opinion, I'd advice you try an ego twist 1000mah with a vivi nova. I used to smoke a pack a day and my twist can last me a day and a half on a good day(and a half). You can get a vivi nova from madvapes and a twist starter kit from Totally Wicked. Their twist is called the tornado twist but the device is a genuine ego twist.

I'm sure there will be many who disagree but that's my opinion.

;)
