Welcome!

You didn't mention any specifics about the devices you own but an Ego or Evod type battery with clearomizer is good starter kit. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
I think it would be classed as an Ego type unit with a non replaceable coil. It does not give details about it's expected time use, but I'm assuming it will at some point have to be replaced. The name it has on it is Topoo, seemingly from China.
It was purchased for me by a friend, but the quality and construction leave much to be desired.

Dual coils if you don't have VV (variable voltage) won't be a good choice, and they will drain your battery very fast.

I would get 2 VV Vision |Spinners or Joyetech Twist "ego type" batteries + charger (wall+usb).

Some people like a larger box mod like MVP or something w/readouts like the iTaste VV 3.0.

And to put the juice in, a couple of evods, mini protanks or aspire nautilus, or T3S's (and buy a box of replaceable coils to go with) and go from there.

Then when you've mastered that move on to larger mod of some sort, once you know more about what you might like, because the choices there are endless, and you will be spending a lot of money if you don't know what you want (big, small, what battery sizes, bottom feeder, or tube mod or box mod, etc.)

Meanwhile, your starter kit I recommended will always serve as a great backup, and/or a gift to a new vaper in your life later on. :)

Hi guys, new member here. Been using e cigs and just getting into the next stage.
a friend of mine bought me an entry level battery, tank burner unit but it seems to be leaking.
think he may have been conned.
Hoping to get some info on better units from the people who know better.:)

Maurice.

Welcome Maurice. I know your part of the world. :)

Your "burner unit" is an atomizer in a tank (of some sort). The most common types are known as clearomisers (clearomizers - US) and they come in a variety of designs, reliability, price, colour, and resistance (how powerful/hot they work on a battery).

Leaking itself doesn't necessarily mean "conned" or "fake/cheap"... but it's probably fair to say that the basic high street and ebay/amazon stuff can be hit and miss.

You could buy from a shop (bricks and mortar shop) but chances are in leafy Surrey, you will get charged too much unless you are lucky to have a local vaping store that is more interested in service/customer satisfaction than making money.

I know London shops that will charge you £100 for a £30 kit. There are also some "brand" stores (like Totally Wicked) where things are more expensive than online. Sometimes the extra cost is fair and understandable, sometimes not.

The cheapest (or good value) UK retailer for most kit is probably MYEPACK. They are London based.

Myepack.co.uk

The best all-round Vendor for e-cigs is probably Vape Escape.

Vape Escape

I use both.

Please ask away.... I can help with most questions.

Local corner stores and ebay (especially) are cheap and often nasty. E-Liquid is not legal on ebay, but they turn a blind eye.

The best value e-liquid retailer in the UK is probably LT e-cigs.

LT Ecigs

Why people pay £4.99 or more for bog standard liquid is a mystery. Sure, you can spend £6-£8 on really nice stuff, but it won't be from a mega e-cig chainstore....

:)

I remember the first battery and tank I bought was an ego-C starter kit and I know the tank they gave me was somewhat leaky. ended up just acquiring what I have now which is an iTaste vv v3.0 and a Caravela clone. no problems with either of them, they're very solid and reliable. in most cases you get what you pay for.

I fully agree with your sentiments, and you don't want to know what he paid for them either.
as I wasn't happy with the other unit, I picked up a Kangertech Aero tank with dual coils and a Vision spinner variable 3.3-4.8 battery. A little better than the Topoo junk......

Now you tell us.. :)

I thought you were a new vaper.
(some of my long post may seem a bit obvious.... :) )

I am, new as of a week ago. I was so disappointed with this junk that my buddy gave me, I decided to try to get something different.
I was in San Diego and saw a vaper lounge. The guy was really helpful and sold me what I just quoted. Had no idea what exactly it was though, it just looked better and more substantial than what I had. Hopefully I did ok?
Trust me, I am new and really appreciate any help with the hobby and how to progress.
