Hello! I'm in the US, been smoking cigars for about 6 years. Between work, kids, family, and a wife that hates it LOL, I'm looking for something that allows me to get a "smoke" in smaller windows of time. Cigars are pretty expensive to light up for 20 minutes and then be done with. I smoke cigars for the great flavors and I find it very, very relaxing. It's my "me time". It's not for the nicotine, in fact everything I smoke is high on flavor but low on strength. So totally recreational for me, at least I think. Today is my first day going with no smoke, we'll see.

So I'm basically here to get recommendations on where to start in replacing cigars with vape. I like cigars with thick billowy smoke, but again, I like to taste it. It seems from what I've read that you kinda go one way or the other with vape mods. Therefore I'd like to find a happy medium that allows for a great flavor experience but good output as well.

Okay, we'll thanks for your time.

Welcome to ECF. I really don't have a recommendation for replacing cigars but wanted to welcome you and say hi. I'm sure someone else will chime in with a good idea. If you have a local vape shop you might want to stop in and talk to them. That is what I did when I was first thinking about stopping smoking. The laws have changed so I'm not sure what they can tell you but it couldn't hurt to seek one out.

Thanks for the welcomes.
I stopped by two local shops on my lunch hour. Both completely different vibes.
One was dark and a little hazy inside with a grunge type feel. Super nice guy though recommended a Smok straight tube like mod. At the other shop it was more reminiscent of a mom and pop video store from the 90s. But bright inside and smelled great! She also recommended a Smok box mod with contained battery, 85W. Not sure the model of either. Is this brand generally well received?

I've been thinking about an Innokin Coolfire IV 100w TC kit. While the battery is self contained, it appears to be a good mid level mod that won't want me feeling like I need another in a month. Supposedly the chip/electronics hold their own, even if not the best.

Welcome. I was mildly interested in your comment about smoking low strength cigars.... but maybe that's another thread altogether.

I would categorically not buy a Smok tube (battery) anything, as I would not buy an Eleaf tube either.
Is the brand well received?.... two years ago they were lying in the gutter of reliability. These days, they are much lauded for innovative products some of which set the bench-mark for power.
I have no interest in crazy power tanks (over 50w) nor in supporting a company that didn't produce reliable mods.
The e-cig community soon either 'forgets' or is simply filled up with new vapers that aren't interested in the pain the pioneers of vaping suffered with junk brands.

Does the Coolfire take independent batteries? If the answer is no (and I suspect it is) then experience tells me not to walk into a product which becomes a paperweight soon enough.
Innokin had the world at their feet with reliability 2-3 years ago, a reputation well-earned and the other end of the spectrum to shoddy Smok junk.
Now, sadly, they don't live up to the test of time and too many Coolfires made it into the recycling center long before the batteries died for a good cause.

I bought 4 Innokin Cortex kits in the European zombie apocalypse (new regulations 20th May, Europe wide) but because the tanks were soon to be illegal, I got the kits for $20.

That's my story. So, my answer to you is neither of those items, unless they are really cheap. :)

Appreciate your great comments and insight. So what would you recommend as a box mod, in the mid range based on my initial post?

I have a few, my latest is an Aspire NX75. I'm not sure I like it that much, but Aspire have an excellent track record. My eVic mini VTC (Joyetech) has been flawless for 17 months.
Early Pico (Eleaf) mods are starting to cause some trouble, although being Eleaf they are inexpensive enough.
Personally, I don't buy Kanger (Kangertech) mods and think Aspire or Joyetech is a step up from Kanger or Eleaf. :) You can go up another step, but the price gets a hammering. :)

Welcome to forum!
I'm a tobacco flavor chaser. I chose the NET route. Natural Extracted Tobacco. Best tobacco flavor out there imho. Look here Best tobacco for flavor extraction You are able to take the cigars your currently smoking and extract them. Cigars take longer to extract.
Retail offerings; Real Tobacco Extract :: Tobacco and Tea www.Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco.com, e-liquids for electronic cigarettes
As far as mods I own a ipv5. Had it for about a year+ works great solid mod. I picked up a beater mod yosti livepor 160. Tc works occasionally OK by me it's a beater. Pick a mod by reviews and forum input.
Atomizers; being a cigar smoker the draw is not that restricted. Aspire Nautilus series has a restricted/cigarette draw. You'll need more air. Others will have to help with drop in coil tanks but subohm tanks my guess is what you'll need running average .5 ohms or higher.
For the thick "smoke" effect buy 30/70 or higher in vg.
Hope this helps

Welcome to ECF!

There are lots of good devices available so any suggestions are personal opinions.

I think a mod with an integrated battery is the best way for a new vapor to start. Because their is less to learn and buy to get started. If you want to move on to removable battery devices later, you can still use the other as a backup/spare.

The Joyetech Ego One V2 kit is inexpensive and the tank that comes with it has good flavor. The tank will accept Joyetech CLR coils that can be rewicked or rebuilt easily which saves money. Those coils must be purchased separately since they aren't included with the kit.

Here's a link to that kit Joyetech eGo One V2 Starter Kit

It's not easy to find a good tobacco flavor but you might get some recommendations here.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Best advice I can give is start simple and try to learn every basic part of vaping, then step up (if you must) to advance ways of vape. Some novices inadvertently choose advanced starter equipment which can lead to confusion. The poor learner is flooded with too many variables and never gets the basics down pat. It helps to know what you want (which direction you want to head towards) before you make a decision you might regret after a purchase.
I would check out the Kanger Evod Starter Kit. This kit is pretty basic and has two batteries.

Hi and welcome.

The internal vs replaceable battery issue is a bit complicated. Most, but definitely not all, experienced vapers prefer replaceable batteries. I started with internals but soon regretted it.
  • Batteries have a limited lifespan. When the battery in an internal battery mod dies, the mod is useless. With a replaceable battery, you just get a new battery and vape on.
  • There are a few things you have to learn about replaceable batteries to use them safely (more on that in a moment). With an internal battery, you just pay attention to the unit's specs (minimum atomizer resistance) and the unit shouldn't let you use settings that are too high. That said, it's always best to avoid pushing a battery's limits.
  • While many mods are capable of pass-through vaping (letting you vape while the unit is charging), it isn't recommended. Therefore:
    • If you have an internal battery mod, you'll likely want another to vape with while the first is charging.
    • If you get a replaceable battery mod, it's best to get a few batteries and an external charger. You'll swap out the batteries to charge them.
    • The initial price isn't usually much different - extra mod vs batteries and charger. The replaceable will tend to be cheaper in the long run.
About what you should get, I agree with @djsvapour. The Aspire NX75 is ok, but I really like the eVic VTwo Mini (the VTwo Mini is a more recent version of the VTC Mini. Both are good.) The Pico is also quite popular.
