Now about the Stingray...
My girlfriend also fell in love with the clouds these things can make, and decided she should get one for herself. We went to the local Vape shop (Tex-Smoke) just to get an idea of how much a complete setup would cost. Well, we (me, my parents, and little brother) are really cool with the guy, so since his wife just got a Manhattan, he offered us her Stingray for $45. Couldn't pass that up, so we bought it plus some batteries and a charger. This things hits very smooth. My brother helped us build it to 0.1ohms using single coils with, I believe, 4 wraps on 24awg kanthal.
Just to chime in - I'm not sure I'd really be cool with the guy in the vape shop, a cool guy wouldn't have sold such an unsafe piece of crap for any price.

Holy Crap on a Cracker!!

I just read through this thread....
Thanks and props to Susan, Elvis, CreepyLady, Sis, and Tayone for all of the awesome and necessary advice!!
Huge Props to Elvis for the P. Busardo vid!!

Every time I think I can't be surprised by insane builds and lack of vital information.... I get surprised AGAIN!!

Rooster... Toss that Stingray and strip down that Panzer... go out and pick up a couple of MVP2's or even the 50 watt IVP2's... build some new coils at about 1.2 ohms, crank up the wattage and vape hard but still safely! Nobody wants to be a statistic, man....

I would advise you to have your brother read this thread and other links given about sub ohm building for his own safety. Second I would never go back to that shop and would recommend people I knew against supporting their business. Luckily all your girlfriend had happen was burning her hand on the spring. Just something to remember if one day you ever get a mechanical mod....you can blow clouds safely, but you can never chase clouds safely, and just having the lowest ohms possible, doesn't mean you're going to get bigger clouds than someone at safe ohms, that knows how to build safer and more efficient coils.

FWIW I picked up a stingray yesterday... Well Wednesday now, and b&m employee asked me what build I wanted to put on it. Handed her my Tobh with .15 build in it (dual coil 22ga) and she strongly suggested I choose another build to use with it.

My guess is as simple as obvious common sense and pretty much everything that has been said before me in this thread.

Great info everyone, I have only been here a couple days and I love the helpfulness. Reminds me of all my time spent loitering and learning at the b&m I hang at.

So what build did you end up with and what battery are you using in your mod?

The batteries she has are Orbtronix SX30. 18650 IMR 3.7V 2100mAh 30amp.

Why do you guys think the Stingray is crap? Besides it missing that bottom piece, there's nothing wrong with it. How do you know a battery vented in it? The inside is clean. The guy at the shop didn't do the build, I did.

I haven't had time to read all of those links, so I got one of those Ohm's law apps, plugged in the voltage and amperage ratings of the batteries, saw the resistance number and aimed to build above that.

So if I'm doing this right, the absolute lowest resistance I can safely do is 0.123 ohms? I know it's best to stay away from that number. But I don't need to be at like 1.8, right? I did a 0.61ohm build. It's not hitting like used to, but I do feel a lot better about it.

For the Panzer, I went to 0.26ohms. I'm using those purple Efest batteries on it (18650 35amp 3.7V).

I do appreciate everyone's input by the way.

Ok so .123 ohms is already above 30 amps so it's not really a safe build. No you don't have to be at 1.8 ohms, you can sub ohm but do it safely. Just an FYI the 35 amp Efest battery is only a 20 amp continuous battery NOT 35 even though you see 35 amps on the battery wrapper.

From the picture you posted the Stingray and the dripper both looked burned. Even if it wasn't you still paid too much for a used clone in that condition.

Do you know what version of the Stingray it was supposed to be and why it all looks burnt?

This^^ Especially want to reiterate the efest is 20 amp continuous and WHY is it burnt?

Also- want to add, stay within 75% of your max C rating to allow yourself head room and space for a margin of error.

From the look of the photo, that is not a stingray. JD stingray doesn't use a spring.

This is a breakdown of a stingray.

The front roll 5 piece is the firing button.
I use to have the firing problem but I took it apart, clean it, and put it back together then it's fine.

Hello, fellow vapers!

I guess I'll do some sort of intro. I started with a "pen-style" ecig some time early this year. Bought a couple more, and puffed on those for a while. My little brother then introduced me to mechanical mods. I was fascinated by the clouds those things could make, so when he asked if I could take him to Vape Blast in San Antonio, I told him I'd trade him a tank of gas for one of his prized possessions; a copper Panzer clone (I'm new to all of this, so bear with me on the correct terminology). I had always loved hitting this mod, and it looks badass.

This is the build I currently have on it. Double coils (?) with five wraps using 22awg kanthal. Puts it at 0.08 ohms.

Although school is my priority, I want to learn more about these mods. Any advice/tips/informative links would be appreciated.

The only issue is that the guy's wife decided to get rid of the locking mechanism, so the spring (which gets hot and has burned my gf) is exposed, and, obviously, there's no way to lock it. We've been Googling like crazy trying to find a replacement but have had no luck. I really want to fix this on hers because I don't like that she gets burned and it can't lock. Help please!
