Been smoking for 24 years and am up to about 2 1/2 PAD. Well ever since I bought my first rig, last Sunday, I am at about a pack and a half. I have many reasons to quit analogs. Too many to list really. I have come to the conclusion that as long as I have them around, I will smoke them. However, Today is the day that I take that leap. There is never going to be a perfect day to do it. Addiction is a ..... I have found that strong flavors like expresso, and cinnamon work the best for me right now. I also put in an order at mt baker last night for some other ones. I have used this last week as a time to learn my device, which is an MVP, and also to vape instead of smoking at times when I most want to. I could probably vape and smoke analogs simultaneously forever but that would just be silly. For me it needs to be one or the other.

What are some changes you all have made to your lifestyle, that you found helped when you first started vaping without analogs. I am probably going to need some advice from heavy smokers turned vapors. I understand that alot of people are okay with still smoking analogs once in a while, but thats NOT, what I am looking to do. Its gotta be all or nothing.

Thanks to all who take the time to respond.

Welcome!

It takes courage to take that leap. Well done! :toast:

A couple of things that helped me make the transition:

Don't be afraid to bump up the nicotine in the start... A nice throat-hit really helps
the craving for analogs imo. Possibly also look for a dirty/ashy cig-flavor in addition to those that you have found work for you?

Swedish Snus... Since for some people other alkaloids than nicotine can have an addictive effect it can help them to stave off the tobacoo cravings. It also has nice tobacco taste... not burnt... I think... but it is really an acquired taste. Also way less harmful than dip/chew. Helped me, i have since quit the snus.

Oh yeah... and always have a backup for your backups :rules: You don't want to run out of batteries/e-liquid/toppers... ever.

Good luck... you can do it!

Try only vaping for a week..... then go take a drag off of a cigarette and see how disgusting it is. I've never had to do that because vaping worked immediately for me.

Exactly what I was going to say. I quit and on Day 3 I got a really bad craving for a cigarette (and my battery was dead on my Ego) I took 1 puff, tossed the whole cigarette, and haven't touched on since!

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Today is the perfect day to quit!

I already know how nasty it makes me smell. I always carry a bottle of cologne to offset the smell.... And as far as money goes. I think that I am going to save every penny I would have spent on analogs, and put it towards something. Maybe add to my home gym. Or start getting into a new hobby. I find that mornings will be the hardest for sure. The only feeling that comes to mind with it all is "scary" But I am sure that feeling will go away.

We've all had that scary feeling. For so many years we: never left home without cigs and lighters, got paranoid if we only had 3 or 4 left and nowhere to buy, or got stuck stuck somewhere you couldn't have a fix and a craving hit. Make sure you charge batteries while you sleep, but fill your tank before bed. In the morning all you have to do is insert batteries and screw on tank and you're set.

Thanks for the tips man. I have an itaste mvp as my go to and a smok ego with vv. I have about 5 iclear 16s with a bunch of local vendor flavors that I can switch. I like the MVP because it has a passthrough which allows me to charge my Ego when I am on the go. (No pun intended)

As you can see I am a pretty quick study and I have everything right in front of me to be successful. It's funny because I am actually really exited to be on the other side.

As far as that tobacco taste thing you mentioned I ordered a flavor the pbusardo has on his top flavors of all time list. Cedar something. Can't think of the name offhand.

again thanks for the tips!

Well it has been my first few hours today without analogs and boy am I going through the juice.... Noticing also that I am sucking this thing like a ...... (nevermind) the urges to have analogs come OFTEN, but that will probably go away. I will say that I am doing a lot better than I ever did during other failed attempts. I tried the patch, older cigalikes, and I always caved... Now I am on the hunt for a tobacco flavor that I can use as an ADV. Something that is like a cig... Maybe I should go to KC Vapes and sit down and try some rather than look online...

I finished my last pack of ciggies, and then switched. For most of the switch we were in NY, visiting friends, so there was always something new to do, etc., and that made it easier. By the time we got back to Wisconsin, I was over the worst of the withdrawal, and had no need for a cigarette :) Setting aside the money you spent on ciggies for a luxury item is a great idea. I was just doing the sad, sad math, and realized that it cost something like $3600+ per year to smoke vs $400-500 for vaping. The money saved would be enough for one person to have a very nice vacation in Italy  That's kind of mind boggling.

I think you DID find the perfect way to quit. Waaaaay more fun. I smoked 2 ppd for the last 30+ years and have tried every other means of quitting. I started vaping to simply cut down on smoking. I never intended to quit. Then I smoked that last cig and, so far, haven't made it to the store to buy more. That was about 4 months ago. I'm happy for you and Welcome to the Winners Circle!

By all means head for the shop and try some juices out. You might be surprised to find that you like something other than what you seek. No juice out there tastes like a cigarette does, and that's a real good thing. I thought the same when I first started but found that Sugar Cookie and a Baileys Irish Creme were just right for me. And another thing. It doesn't have to be all or nothing at first. If you want a smoke, allow yourself one on occasion. After a few days, you'll find that thay may still taste pretty good, but they now make you dizzy and quezzy even before you finish it. I started off thinking "You didn't start smoking 1 1/2 packs a day all at once 50 years ago, why think you should quit smoking that way now." But that's just me, eveybody has their own boat to row. Good luck and good vaping!!

Stick strong to trying to just vape only. Find a flavor that you feel is good to you and can be considered your "everyday vape" or "go to" flavor. For me, I carry two that are my go to: chocolate pomegranate and black cherry. But stick with one flavor for a few days or a week, some sort of particular length where you are only going to vape. After that time, keep on vaping that day but then say middle of the day when you would have a smoke break, go and have an analog. On every drag you take in, think about the differences between analog and digital, the taste, the smoke vs vapor, the smell difference, thousands of chemicals vs a handful of ingredients, the rush etc. compare every aspect.
when your done, smell your hands, smell your clothes etc. and then think long and hard about everything. is that what you want or can you give it up?

I was never a heavy smoker, maybe 2 packs a week, pretty much just smoked at work only and then on the weekends. So for me I gave myself a few days of vaping, then maybe 3 days later asked a friend for a analog, smoked it and thought long and hard etc. As I was putting it out the cigarette ...., turned to my friend and said "I dont need this". Havent had an analog since. I can smell smoke on people from far away now, taste it on my gf when kissing her (she still smokes analogs, but working on helping her convert to vaping). the longer you go with vaping, the more you will realize how disgusting cigarette smoke really is.

Hello, fellow Kansan! Sounds like you have a good start going! If you have a tasting bar available, by all means go check out some flavors. You may be surprised what you like and don't like - and that may change with a little time. Lots of folks think they want something near to what they smoked, and find out that what really works for them is not even close to their smoke flavor. Enjoy the trip - lots of ways to discover how actually FUN quitting smoking is!!

I remember the FEAR OF VAPING ONLY!!! (dun dun dun  ) I vaped/smoked for 2 or 3 weeks I guess. One day at work I was heading to break and went to grab my ego and cigs, then stopped and thought, "why?". So I took only my ego. I lived through the break, to the next break just fine. So, I did that again at next break. That pack of cigarettes lasted me over 2 weeks, to the point I was leaving them in my car, totally forgetting about them. I was about 1.5 pad on good days.

I had zero intention of quitting smoking. I only tried it out because my boyfriend had 2 batteries and said to give it a try and see what I thought about it. I was scared to death because I LOVED smoking. I didn't want to quit. It was always there for me, always woke me up, always relaxed me, always comforted me. Then when I couldn't find something (locally) that reminded me of a menthol cigarette, I thought it just wasn't for me. He was immediately happy vaping away. I wasn't.

As it turns out, I don't like tobacco-ish liquids. At all. I stumbled upon a somewhat pleasant lemon flavor one day and my world changed. I stopped buying cigarettes. I started researching eliquid vendors and found some flavors I've been vaping since. Once I found flavors I enjoyed, smoking was no longer in the forefront of my mind. NOT smoking was no longer in the forefront, and the fear was gone as well.

Don't be too hard on yourself. This is new stuff you're doing and you're already making progress :) It was a mind war for me in the beginning.

Great responses guys....... I just got back from the vape bar and got two flavors that are going to get me through this... I got a local version of rwhy4 and then a clovish flavor. I also upgraded from a iclear 16 to a kangar pro 2. Not a huge difference but for me right now it is exactly what I needed. I will be able to keep double the amount of juice in my tank and the tiny bit of added power allows me to up the voltage on both my devices and BOOM. I tasted the ry4 on my first visit and said nah. But this time with the lack of analogs clouding my tastebuds I just found my ADV. (for now) This thing looks like the space needle on top of my devices.... I CAN DO THIS. and since I have no packs to smoke.. I am gonna just roll with it for now... Nothing is stopping me from buying them I just simply am ready...
