I have been reading up on the subject of e-cigs because I have a friend who needs to quit. But now I'm rather intrigued about getting one for myself, despite being a lifelong non-smoker. Why?

The flavors. Sometimes after dinner, I want, for example, a piece of cheesecake, but I'm too full to get one. I have found a website that sells the juices in 100 flavors, about 80 or so are dessert friendly. I would also be eating fewer desserts, which is good since diabetes runs in my family. I don't think it'd be too smart to base a diet around it, but it could still be enjoyable. I would obviously get juice with no nicotine added. I've never liked the smell or taste of tobacco, so I'll be looking for food flavors and I don't think I'll be too concerned with throat hit.

So I'm not your target demographic, but this could be an interesting hobby for me.

Welcome, Archpope! While I agree that it might not be wise to start using PVs since you've never smoked, I do understand your point of view. I wonder myself if vaping might be a possible way for those who overindulge, due to boredom or emotional reasons, to control their eating and even lose weight. The problem is, we don't know what the long term effects of vaping are, so it really can't be encouraged. As an adult, you are certainly free to decide for yourself to take up vaping. Just understand that many members here are leery of promoting this as various governments have targeted PVs for banning and regulation due to the unknowns of it all (and the ridiculous coddling of big tobacco and pharma). We don't want to add fuel to their fire. I am terrified that they will eventually classify PVs as medical delivery devices, but at the same time, if they do, I'd like to see them studied for weight loss as well as smoking cessation. As a nurse, however, my professional position is that I in no way think that anyone who eats inappropriately should try this on his or her own unless he or she is also a smoker. If we knew for certain that vaping zero nic juice was 100% safe, I'd say go for it, but we don't, so I'm saying make up your own mind, but think it over very carefully. I know some might blast me for not simply telling you that you shouldn't vape, but many people here are always saying that government shouldn't tell us what risks we should or shouldn't take with our own health, so I think we shouldn't tell others what to do, either. Just please consider the fact that we do not at this time know how safe vaping is or is not. Good luck in your decision, and I hope your friend is successful in quitting analogs!
