Hi I'm new to the forum and thought I would say hi! I smoked for about 4 months then quit and went straight onto the vape. Haven't had a cigarette in over three weeks. Currently using a Vision spinner 2 which I'm really loving.

One of the only problems I've found is the reaction from my flatmate. She straight up told me I'm just swapping the lung cancer risk for throat cancer. Her aunt is a specialist lung nurse and apparently tells all her patients to just cut down on the smokes rather then vape. I've done a fair bit of reading on the risks for vaping and I'm only vaping one tanks worth a day which is 1.6ml with 6mg of Nicotine. It just put a bit of a frightener on me and I'm looking for a bit of reassurance I guess! The only problem I guess I've had from the vape is my throat gets dry but that's it really.

Glad to meet you all! :)

Welcome aboard
Have your aunt provide details of this cancer associated with vaping. There are no cases to my knowledge. There could be health risks discovered years from now (if vaping survives the gov't witch hunt) but there are no known issues at this time. And that includes second hand vapors.
The propaganda being pushed is all related to MONEY (BT, BP, BG, etc)

OBTW Drink water for the throat issue. Vaping can cause dehydration.

Vaping does dehydrate you, so you should drink some more water. As for the whole throat cancer thing, just ask her where she got that from. If she says her aunt, ask her where she got it from. I've NEVER heard of e-cigs giving you throat cancer, I have no idea what in it could! VG and PG are very safe and the only issues I've read are about allergies. I've never read of flavorings or pure (not in smoke) nicotine giving you cancer, either.

There are many articles out there that show many of the studies showing hazards to be bogus. I wouldn't say it's 100% safe, but very little things are. I doubt it could give you throat cancer, though.

Well this is it, my friend had nothing really to back up her claims but she was so positive that it shook me a little. Guess I'm paranoid! Her boyfriend smokes like 1-15 a day and she has said that she would "not be impressed" if he switched to an e-cig. She dislikes that e-cigs can be sold to children but here in the UK you have to provide proof of age if you look under 25. I just find it really weird how few people actually look up reports and studies online and just buy into the media and government witch hunt.

But I did shut her up when she claimed that all e-liquids have a minimum of 18mg nicotine and no where is transparent regarding their ingredients. I promptly told her that my liquid was 6mg and from a company that lists all it's ingredients so no anti-freeze for me!

Hi Slendershy, welcome to the forum.

There are many studies now published about vaping and specifically the toxicology of the vapor. I would recommend two websites for information.

First is Learn About Electronic Cigarettes. CASAA is the Consumer Advocates for Smokefree Alternatives Association. They have some great information on their website and are widely respected in the community as a good source of information.

Second is Home <--- E-cigarette Research.org.
This one is a little more dry but has some excellent information about the latest studies, science and research presented by an ex-cardiologist and respected e-cig researcher.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about e-cigs, but don't believe the people who dismiss them out of hand because of something they read on Facebook or heard from a friend or family member. Even the most ardent of anti-e-cig organisations are at the point where they accept e-cigs are between 90-99% (depending on the study and the interpretation of the stats) safer than traditional cigarettes.

Welcome :)

(gosh, busy day on here for UK)

You'll be OK. The people involved in public health are mostly coming round to the idea that vaping is far safer than smoking. Some folk are determined to believe all the nonsense about formaldehyde.

Sadly, most of them are prejudiced, as they fear they should not recommend vaping if quitting smoking is realistically possible.

To UK users - if you really want to show how e-cigs have come into mainstream acceptance as a viable and safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, then visit http://www.quit4life.nhs.uk/

From the website linked above.
We recognise that an e-cigarette is much safer than smoking a real cigarette and that some smokers may find an e-cigarette helpful for quitting.

I love it.

Really interesting video! Thank you for posting. And thanks to everyone else for their links and information.

Yes.. it is :)

Peter Hajek, Clive Bates (he used to be in charge of ASH) Louise Ross (quit smoking services, Leicestershire) and Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos are on our side.
