Hey everyone, my name's James and I'm new to vaping and I'm trying to quit the nasty smokes. I'm gonna buy a whole setup this week so I was wondering if anyone has any pointers on the best starter kits that will allow me to upgrade from MTL to Sub ohm and DTL down-the-road. I think I'm comfortable starting with 1.0-2.0ohm coils but I'd like to have the option of sub ohming down the road so I don't want to buy like a Joyestick eGo or anything with 1 button operation bcuz I know I'll want to mess around with it soon. I realllly like that smok stick V8 tho! 3000mAh battery and the Big Baby Beast!? Amazing combo but it's 1 button op sadly cuz I love it. So I'm thinking along the lines of the SMOK H-Priv kit which comes with the TFV4 micro and I guess that is compatible with coils from 0.1ohm all the way to 1.8 ohm so that seemed like the best choice to me. Does anyone know if I'm on the right track? I also heard that the Cubis, the Nautilus series and the Heracles Sense were great MTL tanks. So could I get the Nautilus and attach it to H-Priv? If they both have 510 it means I can right? And the H-Priv is 220W so it can handle anything I think. Please I'd love any ideas or recommendations people have for good kits for a beginner vaper who's used to smoking a lot of both kinds of tobacco, regular and wacky lol. I want lots of flavor and an MTL draw but I don't care about chucking clouds. I mean a good amount of vapor production is nice but I don't need what the SMOK Big Beast throws out lol

Hello,

Welcome and congratulations, you will quit analogues, don't doubt it. I don't know if your are or not in the right path because you will find that what works for you may differ from others vaping style.

I've been vaping for 6 months (give or take) and also tried to upgrade my gear as soon as I realized vaping works. In my case I decided to get a Provape Radius because of its quality, safety, looks and reputation and I'm glad I did. I'm not interested in DTL so my choices have been biased towards MTL.

My first MTL tank was a Nautilus X and is great, still use it occasionally.

I know nothing about sub-ohm or high powered devices because I don't fell the need for them. I have little experience but I understand you should stay away from mechs for the moment, try only regulated devices. My 4 Radius are 60 watts but I actually vape in the 9 - 14 watt range. I got 60 just in case I needed in the future but in the time I've been vaping Iam really comfortable with MTL and said power range.

I understand that 510 connection is a standard so any tank with 510 pin will work unless it is to wide (for example I understand that a 24mm tank won't fit a Eleaf Pico). Provape also works with a proprietary P3 connection but the only tank that I'm aware uses it is the Kabuki (which can be also bought with 510 pin)

A lot of guys have helped me here at ECF, I'm grateful for their knowledge and patience and I'm sure you will find good advice.

Keep on vaping!

Thanks for the advice! I've been told my some people to stay away from eLeaf products because of them not lasting but I've also read good reviews of them too. Lots of conflicting opinions out there but almost everything I've read about Smok has been good so that's why I wanna try them. And that TFV4 micro has 27 different coils that fit it!! 27!! Every type, SS, nickel, Clapton, titanium are used in it and there are 1.8ohm coils for it and 0.16ohm and it comes with a RBA so I can start building a few months from now. And some of the coils u can buy are the kind u can rewick I think so it covers everything. Does anyone know about rewicking coils or about ceramic ones? I heard those give great flavor and last really long. I just don't know if it matters what mod I use for MTL. Is it only the tank and coil that matter to get that cigarette like draw? If I put a Nautilus tank with a 1.2-1.8ohm head on a 150W Smok or 75W Wismec I should get a nice MTL draw right? Of course I'll keep those around 10-20W with that ohm. Def not 150 lol

So many choices, the market is flooded with options. I went through so many devices through the years. In my personal experience, I wouldn't start out big. I use Smok, I have the G-PRIV, Micro and Big Baby Beast. I have several Provape devices, great product as well. If you decide to move forward with H-Priv, please educate yourself on dual battery mods and battery safety. You're in the right place, you'll get all the answers you need here.

I understand Smok is a nice brand but haven't tried any of their products. Eleaf Pico had a great review at Spinfuel.com but I just mentioned it as an example that in some cases tanks don't fit a particular mod

I started easy but went to coil building and it is fun. Definitely a MTL vaper and I seek flavor before clouds.

You should read the threads at Provapes forum, I'm really impressed with my Radius and I hope they last long!

But there are so many mods!!! I think quality and safety are important.

Don't worry only about devices, you also have to find the eliquids you will enjoy most and will help you quiting

You should check reviews at Youtube, my favorite reviewers are Phill Busardo and Matt from Suck my mod (that's the channel name) and if you speak Spanish there is a guy from Spain with a great channel El Mono Vapeador

I also learned a lot at Spinfuel and they have a very good knowledge base for newcomers!

Set your pace and enjoy your vaping ride!

I started with the Isticks and nautilus tanks, started building my own coils on kayfuns and russians, then started making my own juice. It never ends, so many products. New stuff out everyday. I bought an innokin coolfireIV that I still use alot, tesla nano, kanger megavod. I really love a kayfun for builds, the simplicity is what makes it great. I'm a MTL vaper and I rarely go over 18 watts on my devices, I like builds between .5-1.2 ohms, depends on my mood. I have yet to buy a mod over 60 W, just doesn't seem like I need it.

There is a reason some reviews are always great.
It's called "commission"...... and some brands pay more than others.

Should we trust review sites that earn more money recommending you certain brands?
Spinfuel and Vaping 360? Work out what they do and how they are operating.
Then, you'll understand this industry.

There is nothing wrong with a thumping 200w mod for a beginner. I got one this morning, in the post.
I turned it on and will never use any of the features other than it vapes and does watts.

If I really only wanted to vape all the time with a MTL tank at 15 watts, then I wouldn't own such a mod.
Justify these things according to what suits you.
The battery life on a 2 x 18650 mod with a simple MTL tank is incredible. That's another consideration.

It's a free world with many options for many people. I just don't enjoy reading about recommendations and trusting review sites as the last word in vaping.

The review sites still have Vaporfi and V2 as the best e-cigs for people to buy. I think that tells us all we need to know about these people and their 'balanced' view.

Sorry.... but it's got to be said.

I started out with the same mentality of buying a setup I could grow into. Picked up a 200w mod and a tank with a bunch of coil options. I planned to start with 1.2s but I didn't pay enough attention and the one I bought came with all .25 coils. I didn't want to order anything else for something I was just trying out so I jumped in with both feet. My collection has grown since then but whatever I'm using that first mod will fire it which is nice. I enjoy blowing huge clouds on my rda or rtas but my old kanger topbox kit built for mtl is a much better substitute for cigs & used daily. There are a ton of options & tanks are relatively cheap so if you don't like what you get it's not that big of a deal.

I just wanted to add that no equipment will satisfy your Vaping needs if your e-liquid sucks. Find flavors that you truly enjoy first. Then worry about your equipment.
Eleaf makes several different mods that are inexpensive, and can match up with just about any tank or RBA out there.
My son started vaping last month, and is currently using an eLeaf Aster with a Nautilus tank, and loves it. He has also found a couple of coffee flavors, and a few Tobacco flavors that he likes at Heather's Heavenly Vapes. He is up to about five days without a cigarette now, and enjoys vaping.
Find the flavors you enjoy, then worry about your equipment.

Nice things do improve one's resolve to keep going with something.

(Nice tennis racket, running shoes etc.)

I think people who invest above average in vaping hardware often have the strongest desire to succeed.

Another reason to buy a beautiful chunk of 200w mod and not a 'Blu'.

(Says me, worshiping at the altar of Smoant Battlestar) :)

I'm aware that reviewers receive free stuff and in some cases they get paid to publish. I did not recommend vaping 360 as I don't trust it but after reading several reviews at Spinfuel I have more confidence and that does not mean I have to believe everything Spinfuel say. Every review has 2 different kinds of information, an objective one in which the characteristics of the product are explained and a subjective, in which the reviewer issues an opinion.

You can always try to discern when a comment is biased or not, and you may or not succeed but still you can get information that can be weighed and help you decide for a particular product.

I do consider the spinfuel knowledge base (different from reviews) a good source of information but that does not mean it is the only one. That's why I keep coming to this great forum, among other reasons.

I also talked about El Mono Vapeador (a Spanish reviewer) who did not like very much the Provape Radius which is the mod I use or you can see him throwing the Hana One to the bin and giving it 3.3 out of 10

So, in conclusion, that reviewers can issue biased opinions yes I grant you that but that does not mean they necessarily lie about everything. I consider them a source of valuable information.

Welcome and glad you joined. You are on the right track and it sounds like you have read about 1.8 and 2.0 ohm coils.
Good choice.

My suggestion would be to find something inexpensive to start because 1 will probably not be the only thing you buy and 2 if you spend a lot of money on something and not like it not good. Plus you need backups. Kinda hard to suggest something without much to go on most high powered mods run subohm tanks that don't mtl very well. The pico with a Nautilus tank would be a good setup. Get the pico starter kit and put the tank up and use the nautilus tank at first. The provari is also another good one. The smoke alien is getting good reviews too.

Hi DDarko & welcome
Firstly I think you mean the G Priv as that one's 220 W. The H Priv is only a 50 W unit. You really have to decide where you want to go with vaping before we can adequately advise you.

Many are quite happy with tube mods as they are interested in quitting stinkies and want simplicity and low expense and are not really planning on vaping a long time. They are also good backup/travel/trashing devices.

There isn't a lot of differences from one mod to the next when they are in the same wattage range and the wattage range will be determined by the atty you want to put on it. The atty will be determined by your draw style (MTL vs DTL), your cloud vs taste, convenience and willingness to build (RDA vs RTA vs Tank), etc. Problem is when starting out you haven't much experience to base such preferences on.

If you plan to stick with vaping for a while and are attracted to sub-ohm (which really just means you want larger clouds & taste) then you'll do well to purchase a reasonably powerful mod with separate batteries, and all the normal modes (which they all in this range have anyway). That said the Smok G Priv is a good choice to start, of course so are all the rest being suggested. There are no modern atty's I'm aware of that won't fit these mods, certainly none of the popular ones.

With the Baby Beast, including the Big Baby, you are aiming for larger clouds, not quite as big as the Beast itself but close. It's a good tank though you'll find the coils are a bit pricey at anywhere from $2.60 to $5.00 each and these tanks drink a lot of juice so DIY juice may be in your future. The Big Baby comes with an RBA deck so you could be into rebuilding quite quickly and easily too.

The Smok G Priv and the Big Baby are a good combo and you would be very happy with it I'm sure. I'm waiting on a Smok G320 with the Beast itself to come in as I've finally decided to walk on the dark side. :thumb:

Actually there's a 220 H-Priv too, the 50W one is a mini. So I just made my 1st purchase of vaping gear!! I got a Vaporesso Target 75W TV w/ a cCell tank for 0.2-0.9ohms and then I got the Nautilus mini with an extra 5 pack of the 1.8 MTL coils so I can satisfy my cigarette cravings and for juices I got Unicorn Milk, RY4, Halo Café mocha, milk & honey by cosmic fog and 1 other that I can't remember. Does it sound like I got everything i needed? Oh of course I got several batteries so I never run out lol. And does anyone know if Zamplebox is worth getting? Thanks for the tips everyone!!

Sounds like you've done well and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I like how you said "first purchase", you are learning quick .

I looked at the Zamplebox but for whatever reason I turned it down, don't now remember. Sample sizes are available from many different vendors so I wouldn't suggest you lock yourself into just one unless you know that is what you really like. As a one off purchase, why not.
