New member, went off the deep end

Hey everybody. I've been vaping for about a year now with spinners, and the batteries started going out. Since I already run 18650s in my flashlight, it was obviously mod time. All orders were put in, (for clones, I'm not rich) and the first piece of apparatus came in. Kraken RBA. All the reviews I've watched showed the problem with getting the case off and the tank coming up too, since it's all o-ring connection, so being wary I pulled. And pulled. And snatched an old spinner battery apart trying to pull. When I went to remove the old battery threading, the dang case screwed right off. There's about three turns worth of threads I was completely unaware of. So then went and washed, and rinsed, and repeated, repeated again, then set up an area to build. Did 2" of wick folded for 5/8" loop, 4 turns with supplied wire, (started with 5 and didn't like the inconsistency of the glow) then put it together with the wick a bit long in the tank. Threw in some of the 18mg cherry I've been using, dropped a bit on the wick to prime, and used the spinner battery to try it out. Wow that was clean! Now I'm just waiting for my mods to come in so I can use it like it's supposed to be used. Thanks for the info I have gleaned over the past few days, wanted to wait to post until I had something worth sharing.

Hello and welcome to the forum bringerofgame. Glad to have you here!:)

There is a good chance that the batteries you use in your flashlights WILL NOT be appropriate for use in your mods. Check out a blog post by Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert) regarding batteries and chargers.

Battery Basics for Mods
- choose the safest and right battery for your applications here. Includes a list of name brand, high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries with mAh & amp ratings in 18350, 18490/18500, and 18650 sizes.

Thanks for the heads up Susan. I have got aw 18350s coming for my mods, I was speaking mainly on the convenience of using the same charger (nitecore intellicharger i4.)
I didn't know about my batteries already owned, they are protected nitecore nl183 with 2300 mAh 3.7v 8.5 Wh. As these were not on the list, should I not use these if the need arises? Not planning on doing any sub ohm or anything like that.

Protected batteries don't play well with the circuitry in regulated devises. As far as using them in a mechanical it would depend on their CDR (continuous discharge rate or Amp limit) and the ohm of the coil you build. Li-Ion batteries tend to explode when they vent.

Here are some more links to Baditudes blogs.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

I have the Hammer and King mechanical mods en route. They should be here next week. Just ordered another set of aw 18350s from RTD since at this point I'm unsure about using the protected batteries in a jam. The i4 charges 2 at a time, so 4 batteries should give me some time. I do use cases at least, so accidental discharge or shorting shouldn't be a problem. Looks like I'll be doing more research and busting out the multimeter when they get here.

COILING CALCULATORS

Here are a few links for you regarding building coils and getting the resistance just where you want it:
1. Steam Engine
2. Coil Toy Calculator

Make sure to check your build with an ohm reader or DMM before putting it on your mod and firing it.

The Steam Engine is much more than just a coil calculator. I consider it my "All in One" vaping calculator.

Cool deal rat2chat2. Thanks for the welcome.

Well I am truly glad you are here. People have always been so nice to me that I enjoy welcoming new people and try my best to help them if I can. Plus I think I have insomnia and it is a great way to spend the night. :)
