Hello everyone. You can call me Fern, Vern, Vernon or FC, whichever is easier.

Figured I'd join so I can learn a bit more. Got my first vape stick today (eGo CE5) and whereas I already run through three to five packs of Luckies and Camels a day, it seems to be good at keeping me off of 'em. And this Three-five e-juice doesn't really come close to the real thing but feels good anyways (I dug their effort in bringing the Virginia by the means of nutty-vanilla taste with that chemical hint at real tobacco taste as well, anyways).

Smoked cheaper e-cigs before, didn't work out (they were often bad tasting and/or the e-cigs were dysfunctional and would go broken) and kept my cigs. Either way my intention is to just cut down to a pack. Can't live without it, and given my history, it won't hurt - I mean, if you can drink endlessly without ever getting drunk and swim 3500 a day you can't complain.

This seems like a nice place. Hope to find good people and interesting things to learn and talk about. For all purposes, I'm as green as they come! :)

Hello and welcome to the forum @Ephceetera. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Many juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Welcome to the forum! I was a two pack a day smoker for almost 30 years. I started smoking when I was two.

I had no intention of quitting- the idea that it would happen just didn't occur to me. I didn't put pressure on myself and started with a setup very similar to yours. I intended to cut back and vape in the house. Imagine my surprise after about a month I quit!!

I hung on to the forum for dear life and vaped my fool head off. If it wasn't for this place it never would have happened. You need support to switch and I got that here.

My 82 year old mother that was a 60 year smoker also quit. I figured if she could do it so could I.

Stick to the forum. Ask questions and ask for help if you need it. Make sure you have the strength of nicotine you need at least for the first few weeks.

Good luck! PS. My 5 year anniv. this month!

Thanks guys - lots of lingo to learn indeed; even if you do some serious homework before picking it all up - as well as a lot of new things, and I'm still gonna be green on this for a while. From all indications, I'm into something right (the eGo CE5 battery has 1000 mAh (3.7 V) fit with a Kangertech EVOD BCC clearomizer (to make it easier since I'm a rookie), 2.2 ohms) and the vapor comes smoothly - and simply as a hunch, I do it sparingly, given how much nicotine I consume (and even then it as good enough for me to pass on more than 2 packs - I smoke Red Luckies and Red Camels) so at least that part is covered, for now; still got a long way to go reading these links and watching the videos (even if I'm not subohming, these three-fives I've bought have the highest level of nicotine, so - correct me if I'm wrong - to my understanding I have to watch it. can never be too careful, right?).

Other than that, It's being really nice to get into this whole slew of information, so much thanks for the links, Susan :) - and thanks & congrats, Caridwen, and thanks to everyone else too.

I had some higher nicotine for those times I really needed it. I 'think' I had 30 for mornings or super cravings. My mom's was a bit higher. Rest of the time I vaped 24. But that was what I needed. Eventually without even trying, my nicotine reduced over time. I could and do vape zero now. I still keep some low nicotine liquid around.

If you still can't get off with what you're currently using give a shout and we'll offer you some suggestions.
