Definite first edition ripoff of an Empire but not nearly as nice, indeed. I can see people going for it, it's cheap, and Empire has not had them available for some time now except at the big meets. I just hate to see American manufacturers taking the hits from the dollar a day paying manufacturers abroad.

Having said that, I started on an Ego, vaped them for a year, stlll have a few I've not PIF'd for out and about when I want to be inconspicuous.

With the exception of those and 4 Ego Twists I bought for the express purpose of tasting new juice in progress everything else (PV) I own is made here in the US. I firmly believe in supporting manufacturing jobs in this country. I buy the cartos and some of my tanks from vendors who sell Chinese gear, I buy my atties from Empire Mods and my glass tanks from Phiniac.

JMHO

I wish more north American and euro manufacturers would file patents so posts like this wouldn't happen.

No patent = no sympathy when China rips off your design and makes it cheaper. Ideally north American designed, Chinese made products would allow for the innovation and quality of north America with a reasonable price point and ability to produce quantity, like China.

Vaping since: a while
Cigarettes avoided: lots
Money saved: probably not
Devices: Yes

Got news for you...Chinese manufacturers pay very little attention to patents, just ask Cold Steel, Buck, Benchmade, CRKT, and many more custom knife makers. By the time the lawsuit has gone through the international court (years that is) the company that ripped off the patents often no longer exists or has changed hands.

Can someone confirm this for me or educate me? If I use a single good quality protected battery in this mod, I'm in about the same amount of danger as I am when using an Ego battery?

Single batteries can fail as well as stacked but not as often. However I would not want to take the chance personally, maybe with a hot spring but it lacks even that. Maybe one of the fuzes would make it safe. If I bought one I think the first stop would be the drill press.

Thanks for your response. So am I accurate in saying if I use a good quality protected single battery, my danger level is the same as using an Ego?

I saw this mod from GotVapes and I have to say this is a device I will be buying. It should be very reliable as it's mechanical and the versatility looks great. Nice job on this one...I will be interested to see how others like it.

Haha, go read the other thread about this device. Doesn't look like too many people like it.

If I were to get this mod it would be with the intention of drilling a vent hole. All in all it looks like a cheap alternative if you are looking for a telescoping mod. Not everyone has a drill press which would make a vent hole a snap for this one. If it accepted a kick plus an 18650 I would give it a shot. Give yourself peace of mind and put a vent hole in it!! safety first <-- dont want to be on fire !?!

It depends on the type of patent or patents that are filed. A base product patent isn't worth the paper its printed on if out doesn't have an IP (intellectual property) patent backing it. Global patents, backed with IP patents make direct copying of goods a serious crime, one which (if you follow global economy/market) China is becoming increasingly more adept and willing to enforce.

I've had to enforce patent rights in the past when my ex wife and I had a manufacturing business, with the proper patents and contact information, the entire process took maybe 3 weeks to resolve... We even made 3500 bucks in restitution.

the correct patents won't stop similar products from being produced overseas, but it will stop direct knockoffs from being created. Again, the ideal situation for non-Chinese innovators is to hard-patent, and then contract to China with specifics on material and manufacture.

The major issue is overhead... Most of the products you're seeing copied are from startup businesses who can't afford proper protection or to contract the labor out... That might change, it might not... It would be nice to see a collective of innovators team up and buy a slew of patents and cnc time in China... Imagine if gg, the did guy, provape etc all got together and made a vaping conglomerate... Low prices, high availability, and I'm guessing a good deal more profit for all involved. :)
